It would be even better if the PCF did much more than hand out pamphlets and line the pockets of undeserving people. Maybe things have changed, and if they have someone please correct me so I can at least feel a little bit better until SGDQ comes around...

You're pretty much correct. They *do* occasionally fund early detection science, but that's a limited field. Also, it was US only, and when it became clear the community didn't like that they did a crash program last year to throw some posters up on Puerto Rico. Then they did a 5-minute video on it for GDQ to keep the Eurobux coming in, hoping nobody would realize that is ALSO the US. ...this year they're pimping hard having an actual international effort, can't wait to see that shitshow.

Donation update: $40k in the hole compared to last year. Though like I said last year's data had weird spots.

Just watching part of one of those bonus streams is extremely depressing on so many different levels.

It opens with 'you're dumb and I hate you', and goes from there, to just a group of friends having a good time together. Charity is great and all, but the runners were able to be themselves and didn't have to fear being permanently banned for wrongthink or wearing a hat that rustles people's jimmies.

On one hand, more money for charity is great, but there's a point when it just kills all that was good. And four years is a short time to fall this far.

What's really sad about that video are all of yesterday's speedrunning stars that we just don't see at GDQ anymore because the atmosphere of the event choked all of them out. Present during Naegleria's bonus stream "run" are Peaches (bald guy with black beard in back left of shot), Blueglass (socially awkward guy wearing plaid on couch), Withhelde (in the red dress on couch), Trihex (sitting behind Blueglass wearing green shirt), and of course Naegleria himself doing the run. The only person present in this video who is still a major part of GDQ today is Spikevegeta, who is sitting behind Trihex (he's wearing the blue shirt).

Naegleria was "too hot" for GDQ, his last appearance was AGDQ 2015 where he was part of an F-Zero race. Trihex became too big to devote time to GDQ, he last official run for the event was Yoshi's Island at SGDQ 2015, though he made an appearance during the Super Mario Maker race at AGDQ 2016. Blueglass was never an official runner at a GDQ event (though he did run Ecco the Dolphin before Naegleria's Sonic run in the bonus stream) but he was a personality that everyone loved; however allegedly his presence was deemed "too annoying" by GDQ staff who no longer permitted him to sit on the couch and pushed him further and further back into the crowd. He can be heard laughing throughout AGDQ 2016, but has not been seen at a GDQ event since then. Withhelde, who is actually a respected transwoman who doesn't shove it down people's throats and claim persecution from danSexy emotes, last participated in SGDQ 2013; it is believed that one of the reasons she stopped attending GDQ events was because of their rules regarding props such as plushies (which were her trademark). Peaches simply became too busy with life to continue speedrunning I believe, he was most active around 2013 though he did come out of "retirement" to play Catechuman at AGDQ 2017.

There's a lot of talent pictured in that room and virtually all of them with the exception of maybe Peaches were driven away by the shitty executive decisions made by GDQ staff. People talk a lot of shit about how GDQ is trying to "be inclusive" and refers to people like Protomagicalgirl as a "diversity hire"... but they already had the diversity all along. They had transgendered runners, they had minorities, they had autistic/neuroatypical people. Good people, too. And they chased them all away to replace them all with cancerous versions of the same thing.

Your knowledge about all of this will never cease to amaze me. Like sure, I knew the names of most of the people there, and why some vanished(blueglass), you definitely filled in some blanks. And that's the thing, I have no problem with withhelde in the least. She's just living her life and isn't making it her identity that needs to be forced down our throat at every moment. Proto on the other hand, he just can't shut up about how trans he is, at every opportune moment.

GDQ is probably going to implode from having attention black holes like proto heavily involved behind the scene. They're willing to bend over backwards to protect her and other transtrender's feelings while they've detached multiple good willed and decent people from the event... Really makes you think.

GDQ is a swirling vortex of autism, some deeply nutty trannys, and a whole bunch of loose money. It's implosion is not a question of if, but when.

I might watch some of SGDQ, because MSF is far more palatable than PCF, but fuck this event as it is now.

I was watching a bit of Trihex's stream today (better than Halo 5) and he said that he submitted Mario Maker runs for this AGDQ and last year's SGDQ but didn't get them in. He's not going to hurt his business by spending a whole week going to an event where he doesn't get to be on screen for a run.

Ah, I was not aware that he was a part of the Super Mario Maker submissions for the previous two GDQ's. I just know that Super Mario Maker was super popular at the two or so events it was a part of, but it too was given the TASbot and Tetris: The Grandmaster treatment and dismissed from future events. No idea why. The Super Mario Maker races were a little bit tedious at times, but it was fun seeing all of the weird stuff that level designers like CarlSagan crammed into the GDQ level sets.

Speaking of minor things, this Burnout runner keeps saying "respond" instead of "respawn", and yes he is also conflating "respawned" with "responded". What's left of the GDQ chat blows up every time he does it.

edit: Troll donations that purposefully contain the word "responded" are being read on the stream. Flying completely over the reader's head.

Thats too bad but Trihex went back to streaming it when he was done with his own stream so you'll still have his chat to talk in for 18 or so hours a day.

Never forget

Something something wake up sheeple.

I see that sign getting posted around in a lot of threads critical of GDQ, but honestly I don't see it as anything different than an "APPLAUSE" sign in a TV studio. I guess it makes it seem like a lot of the cheering is disingenuous but you need to remember that a lot of people attending the event might not know a hype trick from something really trivial.

Anyways I missed the Dynamite Headdy run overnight, and I found Burnout Paradise to be boring and it looks like I missed some great /v/ memes and trolling after I closed the stream and went to bed. Guess I'll have to go back and check the VOD's. Speaking of VOD's, if there are any runs that you missed and want to watch at a later date, here's a Reddit thread in /r/speedrun that has links to all of the timestamps for each run.

So we're into the Metroid Prime 3 run currently. Its 2 1/2 hours so I figured it would be good background noise, and one of the guys on the couch is Kirbymastah who gave good commentary over other runs I've seen. What could go wrong?

Kirby isn't even on the couch, despite being the only guy who is talking about the game. I guess we need to have Proto front and fucking center cracking stupid jokes about HAHA WOULDN'T IT BE WEIRD IF REAL LIFE HAD LOADING SCREENS, because getting PMG's face out there is all PMG cares about. Fuck the guy talking about the game, people want to see ME ME ME! Super awesome diversity pushing the Asian guy to the side while you load the couch with LARPing white guys, GDQ.

If you're looking for an awkward trainwreck this could be the run for you.

So....he's just gonna sit like that for 2 hours? That cannot be good for him.
