I check how the runs are going and I wade into a sea of fish puns.
Now it's a heard of cow puns before the only runner in the event I know is on.
EDIT: Whoops I just noticed the schedule is off.

AGDQ staff decided to play hardass for pretty much no reason and refuses to let a guy in because his girlfriend paid for his pass (as a surprise gift) and it's in her name. All attempts by the girlfriend to get them to transfer the pass have been rejected and they insist that she travels there in person.

-coolmatty, probably

Apparently, things have been resolved but of course only after this blew up on reddit and made GDQ look bad.

It's important to stick to rules. The last thing GDQ needs is a bunch of men running around with women's names on their badges.

Sonic 1 was good for the runner, though obviously the game was short and something you've probably seen before. Doom block (including Chex Quest!) was good. Mohawk & Headphone Jaock and Star Wars Episode One (parts of Awful Block) was an entertaining run of a bad game but the rest of AB wasn't really as epic this year.

Skip Tasbot, it sucked this time around.

LTTP one-hit KO was entertaining even though it wasn't perfect, and the Jak 3 run was great.

Feels like they're reaching to fill space with the multiple 6h+ runs and weird categories like FF4FE.

Sonic 1 was the high point for me. Dr. Fatbody knows how to hype a room.

On the one hand, I can consider giving stuff like FE a pass because it was likely the community itself that pushed that run, to try to get more players AND it would get old if we just ran vanilla FE/DQ every year. But its not really a speed run and it stinks when a game I like gets stuck with a bingo run or some other bullshit like that. Losers just trying to ape LttP randomizer and Mario kaizo hacks.

I don't think they are scrambling to fill space, they turn away loads of runs every year. I think its just that they know that Zelda and FF get lots of donations so they fill the whole graveyard slot with secondary runs that can still get donations like them, Awful block, retro block etc.

edit: Just to add on, this year they had 189+6 hours of accepted content between normal and bonus runs. That amount is slightly off as races get counted seperately for each racer. They had a further 33 hours of back up content, though once again thats mostly back up racers. And how much rejected content have they had? 2356.5 hours of runs that did not get in. They have more than enough submissions to pick and choose what they want.

edit2: And its done, they legit broke the donation totals records AND killed the animals. All in all a good event though one that lacked the extreme highs and lows of a few previous years. Here's how my bingo went, for those who were curious (I got one this year!) agdq2019bingocardfilloutbingo.png

I tuned in a few times and the only thing that was kinda funny was the dude who dressed up like Wesker for his RE run.

The Wind Waker and TASBot ones were almost unbearable.

Who was the chick on the couch for A Link to the Past? The run itself was fine, but she was weird, even for AGDQ.

Dude during Bloodborne was annoying. I don't find Souls runs particularly fun to watch anymore, but he just totally killed it for me. My God, stop talking.

I didn't watch a whole lot of the event, but the bits I caught it seemed better than what I saw of the last couple of years.

The whole budget Dr Disrespect act was not very engaging in the Bloodborne run I agree.

It's nice how female-friendly the Tomb Raider community seems to be, as an aside, there are at least 3 notable natural female runners. Actual diversity requires some of those uncomfortable realities involved.

Yeah, I watched Beckski93 or whatever her name is last year and she seemed to have fun and that makes it more enjoyable to watch, unlike the quite common "i have played this shit game for 8 years, so I'm doing good in life" routine that might have been funny 8 years ago if only one or two guys did it.
Tomb Raider 2 this year was also good while Angel of Darkness had an incomprehensible Chinaaarrrr talking mixed in with the game audio, I probably missed 80% of what he was saying.

The other two things I spotted that raised my interest was Mega Man DOS and Battle of Olympus... but troons, troons never changes. I think it was Mega Man DOS that had three troons, including PMG, all talking over each other with what seemed like obviously pre-planned lines/jokes that they never had a shot in hell of landing convincingly.
I had to shut those off even though I tried to ignore it and pretend that they were just squeaky voiced faggots.

>10 hour X-Com run
>Ironman
Good.
Oh fuck I missed it
Do they upload VOD's later? I tried checking their twitch archive but only some are there, and not by chronological order

Fuck me the runs have the runners "pronouns" next to their names and I've already heard a very manly "glitchwitch" she/her ofc

>factual inaccuracies in xcom run in first minute
it hurts to live

Shoutouts to Mike Uyama for running a terrible game at RPG Limit Break (super hydlide) and, in the pregame interview, saying something along the lines of "the game is filled with terrible decisions and all around awfulness but I've built up an immunity to that thanks to GDQ".

I'll find the vod clip when LB actually separates their vods into less than 48 hour chunks.

There were a couple of funny jabs at GDQ scattered throughout the event and you could definitely tell the runners were more relaxed and having a better time. For searching through the VOD, Twitch has a "chapters" option on the VOD, which has timestamps for when the games started. Makes grabbing clips/finding specific segments to watch a little easier, but the sheer length does make it a little harder to jump around to specific minutes.
