Je so protofaggot was rejected ,I'm beginning to believe the rumour that the new system to choose announcers was created to kick him politely of AGDQ is real

And there is a run of star Fox 2? Weird so runs in the SNES mini are now allowed?
It's not outside the realm of possibility that they have it running on real hardware, but it could go either way, I suppose. Could make a good one of those donation battles - Original hardware vs. original release. I doubt there's any practical differences, aside from maybe framerate.

I think the SNES mini count as original hardware now so you can do legal speed runs there, i believe there was some rules that you cant use things like the Retron because is not "official hardware", i dont know very well the rules of speed runs

They have to do something for stuff like LTTP randomizer, for instance. But yes, SF2 is listed with SNES Mini as the system so they will be using one of those.

Speaking of that LTTP randomizer, they did a race of it for the Houston fund and that was the highlight of that marathon for me. Glad to see it return but pissed that it won't be a race again. The hype of watching a competition like that where you really don't know who is going to win until near the end was a great part of it that you won't get without it being a race.

And finally, I would have liked to see BotW as a race, even though they are nice enough to do all main quests instead of just lowest time. My personal choice would have been an all guardians race but ahh well.

Humble Bundle should be sponsoring AGDQ again this year, shouldn't they? That's a lot of people being tricked into putting their money straight into IGN's pocket.

Retron's aren't permitted for runs because the hardware runs at a different speed or something like that. Even though it's infinitesimally small it's apparently still noticeable and the difference in frames would disrupt logged times by seconds or fractions of seconds.

They make exceptions for things like the Link to the Past randomizer because it basically requires the use of a computer and emulator to run the randomized ROM images. Randomizers are also just run for fun and I don't think there's an official world record roster for it since it's literally a new game every time. People keep personal bests though, but they are not officially recognized.

As for Star Fox 2, technically it was never released in a format that could be played on original hardware so the SNES Mini is literally the only way to be able to play it and log official times for. "But what about getting a reproduction cartridge with Star Fox 2 on it and then playing that on an SNES?" Well, Star Fox and Star Fox 2 made use of the FX Chip which required additional hardware on the physical game cart... so slapping a ROM onto a repro cart also isn't possible.

tl;dr Speedrunners make a big deal about the hardware that games are run on in order to log official times.

Well, it's about that time of year again guys. Strap yourselves into your chairs and make sure to stock up on popcorn and drinks for both the tism and the decent speedruns.
I'm looking forward to the classic Mega Man Relay Race, but other than that it looks to be a pretty boring line-up.

GDQ just said to re-check the schedule, a bunch of drops. Anyone see any dramatic snubs in there from before?

Ori race seems cool, never seen a WC3 run before. Othern' that kind of meh. Also the intro lists Proto as a participant so the speculation above that they're gone may be incorrect. Sigh.

Please God, hear my prayers - let the Bloodborne run not suck this year.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (25 minute run) and Ink (15 minute run) were nixed, PoP was replaced with Risk of Rain and El Matador was handed off to another runner because catalyse dropped from the event. They were all in the graveyard hours of day 3. The entire event has more or less been pushed forward by 45 minutes, which is probably a logistical headache for GDQ but a minor change to everyone else.

They confirmed his attendance ages ago. GDQ prioritises seniority and get a lot of applicants so long-term attendees with previous volunteer experience are guaranteed a volunteer spot, especially as hosts which is a job they're picky about so personal friends of the organisers (i.e. Proto) have it in. Proto's also demonstrated an obsession with using GDQ's publicity to boost himself so I suspect he'll be hosting every event from now on unless barred from attending by some catastrophe.

This is what happens when cliques calcify around your event management. The drama at SGDQ 2017 is just a taste of how cancerous GDQ is going to become over the next few years.

I think I'm going to skip AGDQ this year. The streams from Games Done Quick over the years have gotten lamer and lamer due to the events getting more and more PC. It also doesn't help that all the hilarious runners keep getting banned for stupid shit like "insulting an airline company", having a good chunk of the money not go to their intended organizations, and the tranny drama infesting the whole thing.

Its going to happen every time Protomagicalgirl is onscreen.

It will. For those that don't know, they've dealt with Cosmo spam in the same way in the past. And Proto once or twice.

...and apparently it's going to be sub-only the whole time. Gotta get salaries for the PCF brass, y'know. That and the awful OMG HYYYYYPE of the intro makes me think the downward slide continues. The binary background for the counter is kind of cool though.

The run started a few minutes ago and it's still on. I think they're keeping it on the entire marathon to collect sub revenue because Twitch Prime lets people do it for free.

I can't remember happening it before, but you're probably right. Subbing was always the least popular way to donate to GDQ.

And the current spam chant is 'RELEASE THE PLEBS' by people subscribing with Prime.

If so I wouldn't be surprised is this is the first GDQ where donations actually go down. People are gonna be pissed.

Also, previous tranny limitations didn't generally stop people from posting, they restricted chat to emoticons only. It was probably changed to prevent man in dress and penis emote spam.

They've failed to beat their donation records before. 2016 was shit for them. AGDQ 2016 fell $300,000+ short of AGDQ 2015 (their biggest let-down ever) and SGDQ 2016 only exceeded SGDQ 2015 by around $80,000.

So it's possible. 2017 was their best year ever, but it's a high bar to match and there's no Super Metroid or SM64 this event. Metroid was always their largest dono driver ($200,000+). Sub revenue isn't tallied until after the event, but subs are $5 a pop so if they get 15,000 subs (generous) that's only $75k. I can't see any big dono incentives/bid wars that'd make up for Metroid either.
