Does the original Space Jam hold up?

What I wonder is if LeBologna Jamez will some how get the film to be showered in awards, making for another The Last of Us 2 Awards show situation.
I doubt it. Soyny had the power and influence to get TLOU2 every damn award, whereas with Space Jam 2, even those who agree with the bullshit political principles LeBron and the like shove down our throats, they still hated it for its shilling of other WB properties.
This confused the hell out of me too, but I noticed the Fast and Furious movies are on HBO Max, so maybe they have some kind of deal with Universal? Or maybe they're teasing a Universal/WB merger to compete with the Disney/Fox merger?
Universal has a long-standing deal with HBO dating back to the days when cable was still relevant. That expires next year, at which point those rights will go to Peacock.

Holy shit, I was going to make a bad joke saying, "Watch them not make Wile E. sound like the SUPER GENIUS he once was, and give him a generic voice played by Bradley Cooper or something," but then seeing it made by James Gunn may make that a real possibility.
Imagine being such a hack as to not even go for someone as obvious as Benedict Cumberbatch to voice Wile E.

>live action/animated “hybrid” film
>directed by James Gunn
>written by James Gunn and three unknowns

All that talent to try to make Wile to stop being the butt of the joke? @Kari Kamiya might have been on to something. Back In Action looks like Kubrick compared to these upcoming IP’s in the 2020’s.
I'd much rather have the Marvin the Martian movie be rescued from development hell at this point.

We have a official seal of quality

This movie may have killed any chance for a serious return to 2D in theaters along with killing Bugs Bunny for some reason...

But don't worry folks. He's brought back to life. He just ends up in the real world and now toons and humans live side by side for some reason...
Traditional animation at this point is only used for nostalgia purposes like this movie and that Mary Poppins sequel nobody saw that came out a few years ago. With that one Disney had to re-hire old animators because nobody working at WDAS knew how to animate in 2D like they did anymore.

Also, what did you guys think of Looney Tunes Back in Action? I used to love it as a kid but I watched it again a few days ago after not seeing it in years and it's really not that good, in fact it's pretty boring and forgettable.

We have to understand also that Black Widow's box office dropped 80% this weekend. I also have no idea how China is going to make of this film. Even after Cena backpedaled on his "Taiwan is a country" comments, F9 still plummeted over 80%.

It looks like this pandemic permanently fucked Hollywood and they might never see those billions at the box office like they used to ever again.

But that's ok because they completely deserve it for making garbage movies like Space Jam 2.

As mentioned on here a few times before, it definitely predicted some shit.

Some of the character cameos are ironic given they aren't originally WB properties, like King Kong (RKO Pictures) or Wizard of Oz (MGM)

And I think New Line Cinema was it's own thing when the Austin Powers movies were first released, although I could be wrong.

Like I said, people are out of the habit of going to the theater and in the habit of being able to watch new releases at home, this could be it for how things were.

They didn't even make a proper NBA Jam clone game tie-in for this movie.

And it's probably good that they didn't, as it probably would have been a cloned version of the NBA 2K games, microtransactions included, including needing to pay real money to play the characters that appear in the movie, even LeBologna Jamez.

That Scooby gag in the first clip is not only one of the funniest bits in the movie, it's ironic too, now that Matthew Lillard is Shaggy's permanent voice actor, Scoob aside.

Yes and no, New Line was part of Time Warner when the Austin Powers movies were released, but the studio was technically separate from WB and the rest of the company overall. It wasn't until 2008 with the failure of The Golden Compass that WB took over New Line lock, stock and barrel.

Weirdly, 2008 was also the year DreamWorks ceased to be it's own independent studio.
