So it's been out for about three weeks now though most on the farms are more interested in more interested in other recent events for good reason. A few thoughts before this thread, like the movie, fades into irrelevancy (and I just watched it):
I find it interesting how WB portrays it's employees as massively incompetent and out of touch like the executives, or just plain dumb like the security guard. Also I 100% believe that they do have an algorithm that tells them what movies to make.
The Tunes being friends and acting like a team feels weird as fuck to me for some reason. I know they did it in the original but still.
Michael B Jordan should have been more than a cameo. Hell even Bill Murray and Wayne Knight in the first one played in the basketball game.
The Iron Giant model is recycled from Ready Player One. You can tell because the Giant in that movie was being built by one of the characters and the same one is still unfinished.
The Tune's voices aren't bad but they really make me miss Mel Blanc.
The inclusion of HB characters like Space Ghost and the Herculoids is really confusing to me considering that Cartoon Network and Boomerang haven't re-ran Hanna Barbera's cartoons on television in years so you can't even watch them. idk if they're on HBO Max or not.
The main message of the film is "you will never be Lebron James, so just be yourself instead", which is hilarious (paraphrasing from another post).
E3 being anything but a cringy overhyped video game shillfest is ridiculous.
I'm tired of movies about video games being made by people who don't understand video games.
Yakko, Wakko, and Dot not playing in the game is bullshit. They would've won it too.
Putting in shit like Droogs from A Clockwork Orange and the nun from The Devils had to be shitposting on the part of the production team. They knew WB was so stupid and they knew nobody making this movie cared. Mark Kermode was right, what's fucking the point of having cameos if you're not gonna do anything interesting with them?
Warner has the best back catalog of movies and TV shows of any of the major Hollywood studios imo, yet they can't help but fuck them up it all the time.
The movie looks like a flop. It'll need about $300 mil to break even but has barely cracked $200 mil so far. It's kinda pathetic when you think about it (especially with how big the first one was) but at the same time everyone forgot about Black Widow too. The pandemic really did irreversible damage to the film industry but I don't care because fuck Hollywood. Maybe they'll make up the profits from streaming but I doubt it.
The biggest problem with Space Jam 2 isn't just that it's cynical and retarded, but that it's fucking boring. It's not good but it's not bad enough to really hate. It's not going to create a new generation of Looney Tunes fans like it WB wanted to and probably didn't bring any more awareness to WB's IPs. The actual Looney Tunes characters are an afterthought. I wonder how people will look back on this film in 20 years. Instead of doing something intelligent like learning from the mistakes made by the first Space Jam and Back in Action to make a good movie, they just repeat them.
