They've banned the developer of Super Seducer from publishing on their platform. Considering the state of the e-shop their policy is to just have no oversight when it comes to having upkeep. More or less it's not an ideological stance but the moment something brings them bad press they'll get rid of the offending games quickly.
Correction: They banned Super Seducer 1 & 2 itself, not the developer. Which is unsurprising; that game got banned practically everywhere and was a lightning rod for controversy.

Sony's policy is more or less related to underage girls or girls that appear underage, it's the same as Steam's. They're both on par with each other on what they target. Steam got rid of Evenicle 2 because of what was featured in there, and Evenicle is something that had actual gameplay. VNs in general are treated with suspicion across the board due to them being heavily regarded as shovelware.
No that is not Sony's policy. It isn't even Steam's official policy. Sony has gone after any and every game with sexual content that has originated out of Japan. The girl's age, real or apparent, has never been stated, officially or unofficially to factor into the decision making at all for Sony. Steam's policy has changed and shifted multiple times, to the point that, now, Steam pretty much allows completely uncensored games on its platform, while rejecting others. The problem with Steam is how vague and ever shifting their guidelines are, and how this has left their storefront a right mess and a half. In any case, Steam is nowhere near as draconian as Sony, and many games released censored on Sony platforms get released uncensored on Steam. And no, VNs are not treated with suspicion because they are regarded as "shovelware". If Steam or Sony gave a shit about shovelware, they wouldn't let half the shit on their storefronts sell there, especially Steam, which is chockfull of Unity asset flip garbage.

Nope, being under age was what triggered Sony's policy.

And I wouldn't call any policy draconian because what came before was far more harsher.

Aside from the fact that this info comes from an anonymous source and thus can't be independently verified, this only offers more proof of Sony's bias against Japanese games.

And just because past policies were worse doesn't make this any less draconian.

Nah Sony doesn't have a bias against the Japanese because Doki Doki Literature club was made entirely in America by tumblrfags.

The policy also never affected their flow of JRPGs which is what the playstation is known for. All four Cold Steel games released on the system and none were altered, both Ys games were unaffected, fuck you got multiple releases of new Kingdom hearts games in that same amount of time as well as a bunch of others.

Why are you bringing up games that wouldn't be effected by the policy anyway because there would be nothing to censor? There is no fanservice or sexual content in Doki Doki Literature Club. And Final Fantasy isn't known for its fanservice. Also, the current more draconian policy is very recent.

Doki Doki got blood scenes altered to red and black flashes because it depicted a minor stabbing themselves.

Cold Steel has loads of fanservice and nothing in the games were altered,
ahhhh111.jpg

Draconian would be a hard line stance by definition, and nothing about the policy is hard line because the vast majority of games with somewhat related content don't get touched.

Alright. Sony have a long history of editing violence as well, and carries a reputation for it even in Japan. However, Doki Doki literature club also uses an anime art style, despite being made in America. Most of the games using that art style are Japanese, the style originated in Japan, and the western titles using that style are Japanese inspired, so that doesn't really go against my point.

Swimsuit costumes are fairly minor fanservice, as far as these things go, and one game escaping the policy doesn't actually mean anything regarding the policy itself. Stuff tends to slip by these policies all the time. Also, Trails of Cold Steel is a fairly old game series. The first two were released on the PS3.

Dude, new cold steel games were made after the policy went into place at around early 2018. Cold Steel 1 and 2 predate it, but 3 and 4 came well after it.

I mean fuck there's trophies for romancing or bromancing all individual party members in each game. And it's not like sony is unaware of the series either, they're now making an anime series about it themselves.

Hell sony paid to make the new Neptunia/Senran crossover game an exclusive.

Sony's policy has been directed towards visual censorship, not so much censorship for romance in, say, text or game mechanics.

The fact that the series is older and more established probably played a role in any perceived leniency in regards to the policy towards these games. And established series probably gets more benefit of the doubt versus an indie game from a small developer. Also, the fact that Sony are making an anime probably also has something to do with it.

Hell sony paid to make the new Neptunia/Senran crossover game an exclusive.
You mean Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars, which isn't even getting an English dub? How much you want to bet that game isn't as risque as the actual Senran Kagura games? Keep in mind, the creator of Senran Kagura left his old company because the censorship was getting too much for him and he couldn't keep doing what he wanted.

Thing is the typical gamer likely wouldn't know/care about the censorship of a lot of the stuff. If you're into visual novels (a lot of what is affected) you likely won't be reading them on a console exclusively. Even a potato computer can run just about any VN and they're easily pirated on about any phone. It's actually interesting Trails of Cold Steel was mentioned because I'm actually playing through the second on one on PS4 and there are some...very...very questionable things in it. The first one too but II ramps it up, and I'm not talking swimsuits.

Dude, Atelier Ryza 1 and 2 didn't get an english dub, it's pretty commonplace that many games don't get it.

It looks to be about on par with both series in terms of fan service

I mean the senran kagura creator was honestly a hack to start with, anyone could have done what he did.

LittleBigPlanet's servers for PS3 & Vita are being sunsetted after compromised servers to "protect the community."

UPDATE 18/3/20: PlayStation has thanked LittleBigPlanet fans for their patience as it works to bring the franchise's servers back online.

"We are aware of server issues with LittleBigPlanet and are working to get the issue fixed and the servers back online," a PlayStation spokesperson told Eurogamer today. "We will keep you updated on progress and appreciate the continued patience as we work to resolve the matter."

A week on from Eurogamer's initial report, LittleBigPlanet servers remain unavailable. Fans have blamed the downtime on a persistent DDOS attack by a disgruntled fan - more on all that below.

UPDATE 12/3/20: Sony has confirmed LittleBigPlanet's servers have been taken offline, after fans contacted Eurogamer concerned that community features for the franchise had been impacted by repeated and ongoing DDOS attacks.

Eurogamer contacted PlayStation about the issue yesterday but has not had a response. This morning, Sony's own external development support studio XDEV tweeted to confirm the downtime amid "technical issues".

Speaking to me over the course of this week, LittleBigPlanet fans have said the franchise's servers have been the target of a DDOS campaign orchestrated by an individual unhappy with Sony's treatment of the franchise.

The DDOS attacks have hit community-made content for various games in the LittleBigPlanet franchise, though not LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation Vita.

There are numerous reports of problems on the LittleBigPlanet reddit from the past week, but no further explanation from the franchise's development teams.

Fans believe the individual behind the DDOS attacks is also responsible for the ongoing inability to access LittleBigPlanet social media site www.LBP.me, which went offline in November last year. At the time, LittleBigPlanet community manager Steven Isbell said the site's unavailability was due to "general maintenance and updates". Five months later, the site has not returned.

Originally developed by Media Molecule, the LittleBigPlanet series debuted on PS3 back in 2008 to critical acclaim for its array of player-creation tools. A PSP spin-off and full-blown sequel followed, before Sumo Digital took over the reins for LittleBigPlanet 3 in 2014.

The series returned last year, again developed by Sumo, in the guise of Sackboy: A Big Adventure. A departure from the franchise's origins, this PS5 launch title was a 2.5D platformer.

How about having better security, Sony?

Sony's been lacking a multiplayer killer app for a long time, in fact is there even a single game of theirs currently that is multiplayer focused?
Sony did have one MP game this year, which was meant to be a $70 game, they saw no one was preordering, so delayed and make it a free ps+ game for two months., yet still no one played it.

-Eiyuu Densetsu: Sen no Kiseki III (JP, 09/28/17)
-Eiyuu Densetsu: Sen no Kiseki IV - The End of Saga (JP, 09/27/18 )
The actual crackdown of japanese games by SIE within nippon soil started around October 2018 as the first affected titles were releasing on that month

And there is clearly fanservice not allowed within Sony, such as the clothing destruction which doesn't seem to be a thing for even the upcoming Senran Kagura/Neptunia crossover (which also explain its CERO C-15+ instead of the usual D-17+ rating for these franchises in the past). Or Gal*Gun and Livestream: Escape from Hotel Izanami that both skipped Playstation earlier this year to be just on Switch and PC, because the "girl-touching" gameplay mechanics are also a big no-no for californian Sony.

btw the president of Falcom is considering the Switch a lot more because the company noticed there is no future to stay solely on Playstation, for either the domestic japanese market and the rest of Asia. Main problem lies that they relied on NIS and Clouded Leopard Entertainment to do the porting on Switch so far so I guess they'll be looking into new programmers

It did affect games as well such as Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Scarlet or Omega Labyrinth Life for example, once again within the japanese soil.
The SIE regulations are yet to be officially scrapped off and there are no written rules (that could become more draconian in the future) as stated by japanese devs, hence why it's bullshit.

They closed the PS3 and vita ones which did have weak security, the PS4 is being kept open for LBP.

There's no clothing destruction in Neptunia either, they're taking elements from both games.

President of Falcom got offered a huge chunk of change for limited exclusivity deals on playstation and sony will be directly involved in marketing and promotion.

The switch isn't the most played platform when it comes to falcom titles, they polled in korea and in other territories. it's way behind the ps4.

So as far as consoles exclusivity goes their main audience is on playstation. Steam is at 34% and PS4 is at 31%, switch is around 15%. If you want to jam the PS5 in there since the games are fully backwards compatible, it would put Playstation well over steam.

That's not the Mainline Neptunia RPGs dude. They're mostly taking shit from that and having it be an ARPG like Utawererumono is doing.

Also you keep bitching and moaning about californians, but Jim Ryan is fucking br*tish, and he's only there because he's a yes man.

Playstation is the main focal point for the parent company for their whole IP growth scenario that they specifically restructured the entire company of sony for back in 2018. This whole thing is still being run out of Japan because they're the ones who intiated the buy out of Crunchy Roll from Warner Brothers and OK'd the Kadokawa deal.

Playstation is being run by the Gook Elite instead of just the regular gooks. They now own the rights to 95% of anime songs and like 90% of the global distribution rights to any and all anime.

You didn't specify mainline. You said Neptunia. Hence, you are wrong. Neptunia has done that, so clearly, that isn't the reason there is no clothing damage.

I mean the senran kagura creator was honestly a hack to start with, anyone could have done what he did.
First of all, that's your opinion and nobody cares about it. Second of all, what does that have to do with anything anyone has said?

The switch isn't the most played platform when it comes to falcom titles, they polled in korea and in other territories. it's way behind the ps4.
They polled South Korea primarily, and its one poll; its not indicative of worldwide game performance or even Asian game sales. Its not even indicative of actual Korean sales.

Dude, Atelier Ryza 1 and 2 didn't get an english dub, it's pretty commonplace that many games don't get it.
This is literally only the second Senran Kagura game to not get an English dub, and the first didn't get a dub primarily because it had Japanese Vtubers as characters, so they didn't want to redub them.

Also you keep bitching and moaning about californians, but Jim Ryan is fucking br*tish, and he's only there because he's a yes man.
SIE is based in California. Most of its staff and employees will therefore be Californian. Jim Ryan is one fucking man. He alone doesn't determine shit at SIE. Hell, you even called him a yes man.

SIE is being run out of California and are calling the shots for Playstation. The Crunchyroll deal and capital infusion into Kadokawa have nothing to do with them and are being handled by Sony themselves and other subsidiaries.
