I will never understand how Spiderman became popular, he's boring as fuck as a character and unlike Batman he can't rely on an interesting list of villains since all of spidermans villains are boring as fuck dudes in robot furry suits or color variations of goop. Spiderman as a character and universe is just boring as fuck.

Spiderman excels at low stakes localized conflicts and this is partnered with the slice of life elements when he's peter parker.

I mean he's been in world ending stories before but as mostly a supporting character. Most of his shit is him as spiderman dicking around NYC and then also balancing it with his normal everyday life.

Batman and Superman while they have alter egos, they're less of a focus of the overall story and are closer to a means of establishing a setting for the story to take place. They're just there so people can have an answer to the question of "where does Batman live when there are no bad guys around".

Have you guys seen the writer for the Kotor remake? Holy shit, /v/ is lit up like a Christmas tree over her and Anthony Burch is a writer for God of War.

I’ve rebranded to properly respect the brave black jotun movement.

Something something “let the past die” something something “kill it if you have to.”
View attachment 2525322I’m actually glad they’re gonna kill Kotor 1, the better game will be left unmolested while BioWare taints their legacy as they sink. Fitting almost.

Also can we get some Ralph edits on Thor?
I think Sam Maggs wrote Rift Apart, which didn't turn out too badly. (I think she also liked the fact that Rivet got rule 34 as soon as she was revealed.)

Anyone going to talk about Gran Turismo 7? Is it the biggest saving grace for Sony?

My only grievance with them was on the launch of the PS4, where you couldn't download titles that you had purchased from the PSN from having previously owned a PS3. Always thought that was a dick move on Sony's part, purely to shift units of their next big thing.

@Red Sparrow

So far it's been the marvel games and God of War beating out the interest of GT7 it seems. I mean it would have helped to have some more gameplay videos but we're probably not going to see more until after TGS which is at the end of the month. Both Nintendo and Sony will have no first party games there and everything will be 3rd party games.

Everything has relatively sophisticated haptics now, so incorporating that into a racing game is more like a minimum requirement by now. Though I haven't been able to try the PS5's haptics for myself yet due to not even being able to play a PS5, due to not even having seen one in real life yet.
I only recently finally saw some in real life, almost a year after release lmao.

Angrboda is the last of the giants and is maybe possibly a Nephilim because we're going to Middle East/Egypt Next, according to the interview Ragnarok is the conclusion of the Norse arc. It makes sense why she would have darker skin.

She's also the bringer of grief and if they're sticking to traditional norse mythology, that's going to be pretty funny.
I hope we get Japan next, it'd be interesting to see the series' take on Japanese mythology.

In God of War 2018 not only is Japan and Egypt referenced, but so are the Mayans and even the Celts.

Every time I want to be excited for Insomniac's Spider-Man 2, I remember how some pretentious douche thought this looked so good that it should be officially implemented
View attachment 2525255

Seriously, fuck Insomniac. I want to be excited for Spider-Man 2 because I loved the first game but every time I think about the fact that I'll have to look at this throughout the story it tempers my expectations quite a bit. My biggest fear is that physically de-aging him might lead to making him act more immature - He already didn't return home at the first word of trouble in the Miles game, something I 100% don't think a seasoned, mature Spider-Man would do. "Fuck responsibility, I'm only 12! Let's let my younger and inexperienced protege handle everything!" While I still loved the Miles game, I was only able to get through it because Peter was hardly in it. Hope they don't make Logan look like a preteen as well but I'm not holding my breath
I know how you feel, I really hate that they dropped the PS4 Peter Parker and I just don't understand why they felt like they had to do that, PS4 Peter deserved better.

Wish fulfillment since he's a stand in for comic's own audience, ie nerds.

He's no Batman either as a character or his villains but I still think he's a very cool character and some of his villains are still pretty cool (though definitely not on the level of the Batman villains)

Considering that the trailer has centaurs and other enemies from the original games, we're going to get more than few callbacks to the Greek games.
They need to bring back Morpheus, one of the Greek gods Kratos didn't kill despite being referenced in Chains of Olympus, I always thought a boss fight with him could be really clever and cool.

PS5 in Japan.png
Its highest selling game at retail is Resident Evil Village (released May 8, 2021), with over 67,000 copies sold.
Said game (which is also the highest selling title on JP PS4 this year with >192k copies, followed by Nier Replicant) is already -50% off in japanese retail stores for both PS4/PS5 systems and CERO-rated D & Z editions. Tales of Arise may dethrone RE:Village for the 2021 charts on PS4 but I don't expect a huge margin either. Overall performance of the PS5 still remains below both the Wii U and the Playstation Vita.

It's not really a big reveal to be fair, just on par with what people have been predicting since the beginning of this year about the Playstation situation in Japan.

Meanwhile Konami is making mad banks by developing heavily japanese-focused games that don't run on bloated budgets

Still makes me laugh that since the shit last year people can't voice a character that's not their race in a game.
so where did they find some nordic gods for voice work? also kratos needs to be black then too (oh wait that's ok).

Judging from looks of her she is definitely going to be Kratos son love interest and try to slide some woke shit into it as well.
that's probably the best case outcome under those conditions. but knowing current year woke writing you can pretty much expect it to turn into goddess of war...

burch working on GOW has been known for a while tho, and doesn't have to mean anything really...

the more I see about it the more it screams "we want the TLOU2 audience". :story:

@Dom Cruise

That's what I think. The new face looks absolutely awful and every time I think of being excited for the game, I remember that his new face is gonna be in it and my hype drops from high to like low-mid. The voice doesn't match the face, he looks too young, it's just suckish, and on top of that, they just straight up dropped the old guy for no reason at all. In fact, the original guy's comments to James Stevenson, the community director, suggest he's not thrilled over the change either.
1631295392779.png

As she should be. He had the better look and was dropped for superficial reasons seemingly without warning.

It reminds me a bit of Cole MacGrath, his face was changed similarly for the sequel of Infamous, but people complained, which forced the devs to get his original face back.

But back then Twitter harassment wasn't a real big ticket issue. When your paying playerbase complained, generally the devs listened (not that it doesn't still happen tbf, look at what happened with Cyberpunk). This time, all Insomniac needs is a tweet from James Stevenson whining about how difficult life is on Twitter and accusing people criticizing the change of harassment in order to get people off his back.

Fuck him and fuck Insomniac. Spider-Man 2 better be perfect, because I can't imagine that twink they gave the role to as a mature Peter Parker.

Incorrect resident evil village topped out at 300k launch week beating Resident evil 7. They never factored in the digital only sales.

Japan seems more interested in the new Spiderman game than GT7. I also wouldn't mention the vita since much like the PSP, the vita did poor globally and releases got cut despite the japanese performance. It was also significantly cheaper than either edition of the PS5.

Currently the PS5 is out of any bad territory like the PS3 was in and it's doing on average what most consoles do in it's first year inspite of the global chip and container shortage. Which means given enough time it's probably going to do what the ps4 did.

Marvel's Thor has poisoned the mythological description of him. Red haired, bit dumb, loves his hammer enough that he's willing to dress in drag to go get it back from some giants, and unbelievably strong.
The only thing that separates Mythical Thor from Norf F.C. is distance.

I betcha MONEY the script will involve the boy discussing gender dysphoria with Kratos, forced representation towards a boss and/or allegories relating to current politics.

Oh my god, if that counts as diversity then I should invest in a genealogy kit and tattoo the results on my forearm, because that's a fucking white girl. Women also loose nothing by having the queer label attached to them, but men usually wind up with unwanted advances if they're faking.

I also want to mention that the showcase intro was intentionally done in the old style of the weird Playstation commercials that tended to gain controversey.
What this whole thing is, is based around a chess game. They also intentionally cast each side as specific races.

I thought the presentation was mediocre. The first half was awful with only the KOTOR remake as being vaguely interesting.

Also, that opening segment with the diversity crew was one of the most cringe shit I've ever seen. I don't even know who that was even fucking for, but they don't play games.

The second half was better when they got to exclusives. I was surprised by Wolverine. I'm going to play anything Insomniac does.

God of War looks fine and I'm sure it will be fine.

Dissapointed Sony didn't release either teasers or info on what their internal studios are doing. Especially Naughty Dog which apparently has more than two games in development.

It just felt they were leaning too much on Insomniac.

Japanese Retail space for video games is highly competitive. So it ends up being such that unless it is literally THE BIGGEST GAME they need the stock they have out asap. Thats why you can regularly see stickers like that go on games almost as soon as 1 week after release. Its how /v/ gets a lol of their meme pictures oh "flop" and "ded gaem" of games with those stickers on them. (I dont know if they still do this)

Insomniac has kind of filled the void that Naughty Dog left. My Concern is that they split too much of the teams up and it winds up affecting the games because everything is spread thin. IIRC they have like around 250+ people at the company so if you split that between Ratchet, Wolverine, and Spiderman, that's a team of around 80 people each

@Love_Machine011
Yeah it's why the Japanese business practice and belief of "selling 1000 copies with zero overstock is better than selling 10,000 copies with some overstock left over" exists. They view the stickers as a bad thing, so despite the second scenario making you more money than the first, it's why blu-ray sets are 500 bucks each because they only make like 20 of them to sell out instantly.

What you said is definitively true, although my post was more meant to look at the bigger picture and show the change of cultural phenomena, as a result of SIE's consistent sidelining of the japanese market through multiple means and the thing scalped to hell. Hence why the attach ratio for game softwares appears to be the lowest ever seen on a PS system in Japan, within the same time-frame too. For reminder, the PS4 sold far more game copies in its launch week alone (on a February) than the PS5 did in over 9 months.

Dude the Japanese market hasn't been sidelined, it's generally fallen in size from the PS2 onward. There's larger markets that became way more prominent than Japan since they switched to favoring IOS games and gatcha. The entire reason why the vita was canceled was due to the fact that there wasn't a space for it, Sony's mobile division was churning out more money by making Fate Grand Order and the PS4 was greatly outselling vita who's entire premises was having console games on a smaller system, so the games were pulling the same resources as a console game to begin with but selling less than their console game counterparts. So there was literally no place for the vita to exist. It's not some personal attack against the Japanese, the japanese for the majority want stuff you can play on a phone.

Nintendo primarily serves the western market at this point too which is why they built a theme park in Florida. Animal Crossing and Zelda are games that are heavily favored by westerners, which is why BOTW plays like a western Ubisoft open world game. They have movies in production with western animation studios set for theatrical release. They can't be supported by Japan as a primary pillar, this was true when Sega exited the console market because they thought they could scrape by as they did with the saturn.

Console game attach rates especially during a time of a shortage won't be reflective of performance in the long term. And all things considered selling 10 million in less than a year is something Nintendo would have liked to happen for the wii-u globally. But the system is generally considered a failure due to it's poor global performance.
