No, I said he was treated unfairly compared to those who REMAINED at Sony. Hsu's game was outright refunded. He was given the boot but guaranteed flops are still in development.
Kojima and his team were never at Sony. That's part of the point. Sony doesn't own Kojima Studios. They didn't fire Kojima. They ended a business relationship with his company. He still owns Physint and Death Stranding. Everyone still works for him.
You and everyone else keep bringing up Concord over and over as an example of the unfairness. Except now that it's been definitively shown that Kojima actually got more forbearance than Hsu, the argument has changed.
The fact is, everyone you're comparing Kojima to has
- Given Sony far more in exchange for their money than Kojima offers in terms of rights and ownership
- Had a stronger track record of success leading into their first failure
- Got shitcanned/shutdown after things went sideways
And the fact is, after Concord, letting somebody burn through hundreds of millions with little to no accountability is off the table. It would be utterly retarded for Sony to keep doing that. Oh, Kojima is the guy who made Metal Gear? Cool, well, Hsu was the guy who made Destiny, which made more money than Metal Gear in 1/4 as much time. Hsu got shitcanned and his studio shut down.
Kojima just lost around $150m and is fucking up his latest project. He's not playing with a strong hand against other people with better resumes who experienced consequences for their failures
on top of giving Sony ownership if the expectation is he should get more money with no strings attached.
Because if they fired everyone who fits the criteria that Kojima was fired for, they would have to fire the entire company.
The other studios you're complaining about gave Sony total ownership. If Kojima wants the same treatment, he needs to play by the same rules. "You will own nothing and be happy" doesn't work when you're an independent contractor telling a Fortune 500 company how to spend its money.
