So, I got to play the fabled Wolverine game. Not to power level much, a friend of mine managed to get an early copy and called me to take a look for shits and giggles.

And I don't have much to add to what has been said, it really is just a dull and respective cinematic action game. Sure, cutting edge visuals, but this realistic cinematic rendering stopped being a selling point by PS4's mid life.

But I think my friend hit on the nail when he said " the devs had no idea what to do with the game once they found out they couldn't make it a open world like Spiderman."

Spiderman's saving grace was that it was fun to swing around NY, so that helped to augment all the chore lists open world games require, and the combat stretches were kept to a brief afair.

But in Wolverine, Insomniac had no idea what to do with Wolverine, because as a character he doesn't land to transversals like Spiderman or Batman, and even if they did open world, it would be more like GTA with bikes, and maybe slowly climbing walls.

And as far as action goes, it's not like Wolverine is all that flexible either, he has claws... That is it. Still, it is the devs job to find the fun.

After playing the new Onimusha, to deal with Wolverine's bare bones combat just makes it staggering to see how far western devs are lagging behind in terms of combat action in games, it is night and day.

And as far as the whole streamlined hand holding shit the game has... Yeah, it is there, it is noticeable, but it is isn't like it makes much difference if it's there or not, because the game is pretty a corridor FFXIII style, so whatever.

I'm sure it might sell well, maybe not well enough for Sony, but as far a lowest common denominator goes, the Johns and Janes might dig the playable MCU movie, but if anyone else wants to check this one out, wait till next year when it goes for 20 bucks on the PSN.

Reminder that superhero style games used to be edgy power fantasies for heterosexual white men. Prototype was built off the bones of a venom game that was scrapped.

Prototype can be described in one word and only one word. Fun and we traded fun for graphics. I would rather have the old style graphics of Prototype and have a genuinely fun game than the uncanny valley hyperrealism of Wolverine

I am not even mad at Wolverine, I am laughing my ass off at the Sabretooth scenes because it genuinely reminds me of Catalina level bad gay porn acting and I cannot take it seriously.

Marvel and DC used to be cool as fuck. I don't even want to like eastern games more but the western output is so fucking bad today.
Ngl I was always more of an inFAMOUS guy.

Prototype 1 was fun as fuck and offered a lot more freedom but the story could fit on a gum wrapper and the characters were made of cardboard. The only person I even remember is Alex, and he's the fuckin protagonist.

It was basically Just Cause but with superpowers.

Dunno WTF had gotten into all these fucking assholes in the past year but I can tell you I've saved a fuckload of money just not doing business with people like that anymore and learning how to do more things for myself that I'd have never fucked around with even five years ago. Lots of people are doing the same. Goes right along with tightening the belt to save money anyway. Gonna be a lot of surprised Pikachu faces in a few years, I think.
Sorry for the late reply, but I'm going to guess that the answer to most of these problems is this mentality of being too big to fail. They've been fucking with people for years, slowly ramping up on the fucking and hardly being punished for it. Most people at the top have golden parachutes and are getting on in years, so they don't care much for what happens by being rude assholes since nothing bad will really happen to them. Anyone below a certain threshold won't get the same treatment but if they brownnose hard enough they might just get a recommendation. Nepotism is far more important than any degree or experience these days, only defeated by an imported Mexican/Jeet/whatever the current pet minority is.
For the smaller business, that's harder to nail down. Could be seeing the writing on the wall that no matter how well they do they'll never last long in this current world of business, so they stop giving a fuck. Could be a similar mentality I stated before but with less to back that idea up with. Could just be the wrong people who tick the right boxes are getting loans to start businesses and they just don't know how to handle it. I noticed public incivility has only increased due to worsening conditions (awful job market, inflation, the importation of people who are just incompatible with American way of life, government shenanigans, etc.) so it's unsurprising people are giving less of a shit about "pleasing" others.

I get that vibe too. The prevalent attitude seems to be "fuck that customer, there's always a hundred more."

And that's often true. Right up until one day it isn't and it blows up in their fucking faces.

I think we're closer to that moment with Sony than their supporters think. In a recent /v/ thread I saw someone mention "oh yeah well PS5 Pros are still all sold out!" implying a massive demand for a popular product ... while ignoring the reply beneath it "and still a smaller installed userbase than PS4; generally a contracting market for your flagship product is considered a bad thing." And Sony doesn't give hard numbers, either. You know how they could easily "sell out" on PS5 Pro's? What if they just don't make very many? I could write a book, print and sell five copies, and (accurately) claim "hey this book was so popular it sold out in ONE DAY!"

So far they appear to be counting on a single title (GTA6) carrying the PS6 to be its massive killer app. Literally all their eggs in one basket (and they're not even the developer). That is such a shortsighted and bafflingly stupid maneuver. It's unlikely RAM and SSD prices will drop or even stabilize in time to positively influence their manufacturing costs, so it's very likely whatever pricing Sony has announced for the PS6 to date will be inaccurate and they'll have to jack up the prices again at launch. Do they really believe even ten million people are going to pony up $1,500k or more for a GTA6 box? Even then, that's "only" $15 billion in revenue (not profit). Meanwhile Rockstar has allegedly spent more than a billion dollars to develop GTA6, so just to break even they'd have to sell about 18 million copies (that's $80 per unit minus Sony's 30% for the platform fees).

I'm unimpressed with "pre-order" numbers. Preorders can be canceled and refunded. It would only take one fresh catastrophe completely unrelated to Sony, Rockstar or gaming to completely throw off this launch. COVID, the BLM riots, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, etc. all wiped trillions of dollars of buying power off the books. Something as simple as "losing your job and not immediately being able to find a replacement" can make that shiny $1,500 PS6 preorder receipt look like a juicy rent or mortgage payment to desperate eyes. And guess what's been happening a lot lately? Layoffs and closures. People love their bread & circus, yes, but the bread comes first. Circus is a distant second.

I noticed public incivility has only increased due to worsening conditions (awful job market, inflation, the importation of people who are just incompatible with American way of life, government shenanigans, etc.) so it's unsurprising people are giving less of a shit about "pleasing" others.
Yeah, civility in general is on the decline so I'm sure that's part of it, but it's mind-blowing nobody at any level within seemingly any organization is at least trying to put the brakes on it, even a little bit. I've never seen a leaked internal email with a comment like "guys, could we stop actively and aggressively trying to just piss literally all of our customers off, just for like one god damn week please? I'm running out of departments to sneak revenue from to cover up for this product's devastatingly low sales."

Was there really nobody at Sony who saw that ToS update announcement getting drafted (the one that straight-up says "we'll fucking sue you if you complain about our shitty service") and said "uh ... hey, um, can we have a human review that along with the lawyers this time? Threatening to sue our customers is not typically a winning strategy." Someone mentioned in the Marathon thread Bungie was having themselves a classic The Professor moment where any and all negative feedback was swiftly silenced and the offender punished, but fucking hell it must be like that everywhere now because it seems like even the tiny/solo voice of reason has vanished.

Dumb shits ... even the fucking Catholics understood the value of the Devil's Advocate (which is, or at least was ... I haven't checked in recent years, an actual, formal position at the Vatican; those crazy bastards even asked Christopher Hitchens -- a rather prominent and outspoken atheist -- to serve in that role officially for them on at least two occasions). Modern business though? Nah, fuck no. Let's just be cartoonishly evil. What could possibly go wrong?

At the risk of powerleveling, I'm involved in my elderly parents' health care now pretty much full time and I'm actively working to get them switched to a different GP doctor at a different clinic because the one they've been seeing since before I moved here with them are incredible in just how openly nasty they are to people. I've never once in my life felt the urge to raise my voice at a dumb bitch behind a counter until interacting with these assholes. I still didn't do it, but the "conversation" was still a bit of a shock to her. It was the dumbest fucking thing and obviously her mistake, but she absolutely couldn't handle a man calmly (not loudly) say to her "that's not acceptable; there are two patients here you've just bumped, so they need two appointments rebooked. One appointment won't cover both. You've already said as much. Now when can they both expect to be seen, back to back, in one trip?"

She tried (unsuccessfully) pulling "therapy speak" shit, like "let's all calm down, etc." and could not handle reminders like "I'm very calm. I haven't raised my voice, I'm not swearing at you, I'm not even frowning. I'm asking you bog-standard questions and getting lazy answers." I wanted to say "do your fucking job, bitch" but I know they're angling for that just to have an excuse to boot you out the door with security's hand on your shoulder. She was borderline raging she couldn't get me to "blow up" at her.

It's tempting to just say "honey, listen, this is a small town, and I don't care how big you think your clinic is, you can't afford to be this consistently terrible with record keeping and appointments, and your attitude today guarantees we're going to be looking for a better doctor to see" but I know this woman in particular is hardwired to interpret all negative feedback as a direct, personal insult, so it'd essentially fall on deaf ears. Like, bitch, I'll fucking drive an hour to take my mother or father to a mediocre doctor with a good staff that actually keeps appointments, handles referrals correctly and produces records when requested. The hard part's getting mom & dad into the car. Once we're there, the length of the drive doesn't matter. I enjoy my parents' company anyway. And I don't think we're the only family in town like that.

They really can't afford to lose patients over such fiddling trivialities but I swear the two women running that front desk fucking hate their jobs and the patients they "serve." There's only so many patients to go around, after all, and given this town is largely geriatric, they don't always just quit over bad service, but because their time's up. And then there's families like mine, where the parents get fed up dealing with it and call in their pig-headed, loudmouthed impatient (but well-spoken) stubborn asshole of a son to deal with the stupid doorstops.

They're losing these two patients anyway; they're stonewalling me on records requests and I'm about to get the state regulatory bodies involved just to squeeze the fucking records out of them for my parents' new doctor, whoever that ends up being.

Fucking medical industry just doesn't give a shit anymore either. This whole town's specific attitude towards the elderly appears to be "hurry up and die." When they eventually do, this son will remember how they were treated before the end, and will make "business decisions" accordingly.

Both are good tbh

You got actual competition between series back then and the fact you could make arguments for both being good is sorely lacking today

Without going too into detail, I run a small channel on youtube that focuses on failing QTEs. That segment in the Skill Up review convinced me to save my money.
I should've seen this coming. The fails in Spider-Man 2 were hardly fails at all. They were practically fucking nothing.
This just re-enforces Sony's frivilous spending habits. It's being run by a bunch of monkeys. Imagine sending $300 million just to make basically a movie/hand-holding simulator. Who fucking cares if Troy Baker is in the game? He hasn't been relevant in closing in on a decade now.
I find it hilarious that the best Wolverine game was the tie in title to that awful X Men Origins movie.
I was just thinking that; I fucking hated that movie.
Might be lateposting but man

I don't wanna hear a word from the niggas that published and bankrolled concord and marathon.
This should be no suprise at this point. I wonder how much money we're talking about here, though, especially compared to Sony's other upcoming games.
They should say "former anime voice actor Troy Baker" just to remind him of his previous career that he is so ashamed of.
I hate how we're treating video games more like movies now. Troy Baker has not been relevant in near a decade, now. Who the fuck cares about him being in this game other than journalists?

As a side note, he is still voicing Baki Hanma.
I’ll be real here, everything that’s wrong with modern gaming (the movie game phenomenon that Sony’s best known for) can be traced back to Hideous Kojimbo.

Kojima is everything that’s wrong with modern gaming. Insanely long cutscenes (remember MGS4 anyone), obnoxious gameplay (DS 1 and 2 are garbage mailman simulators) pretending to be “art”.

The fact that Sony canned his ass if surprising because Kojimbo is the master of Snoyslop. Literally. He pioneered it back in the day.

The man after all claims he is “70% made of movies” (cringe). He has an insanely inflated ego. It’s unreal
I believe Kojimbo's work is artistic, more artistic than it had any right to be.

The problem, like with Watchmen, is that everyone else tried to copy it and justify it. Neil Cuckmann is an obvious example.
Attractive black women have been done before but the same types who want them to be butt ugly sperged out claming Sheva was cultural appropriation or she was "too white" despite being modelled after a native African woman

Its really only for miserable white leftists to feel morally superior. Actual minorities rarely ever like the woke shit and see it as pandering and insulting. The devs just want everyone to be miserable and ugly as them
Funnily enough, Debra Wilson has voices attractive black characters, stated by yours truly previously in this thread. And they used an attractive model. There's also Lisa Hamilton from Dead or Alive or Elena from Street Fighter among others, but that's Japan. The West can't make attractive black women for shit now.

You mean Nintendo. The second the Switch started lapping the PS in sales, the Sony Bronies started this “Nintendo isn’t a competitor” nonsense. Its sad. Sit in your Sony cuck chair and take your licks
Nintendo aren't a direct competitor in the sense they don't bother trying to match hardware, but that's ultimately irrelevant because if you care about top-end hardware you'd be on PC. As far as consoles go whatever has the most good games wins, and Nintendo seem to be the only ones still focused on making fun games, even if they occasionally misfire.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have released any must play games this generation, the only thing keeping them afloat is gun and ball gamers (AKA blacks).
"Let's fag the game up, they'll HATE that."

"Why aren't they buying our game?"
Who could have predicted literally saying "If you don't like it then don't buy it" would backfire as a marketing strategy.
How do you fuck up a Wolverine game? Just have him kick ass and slice people apart with sick glorykill-filled combat.
I genuinely believe a remaster of the PS3 Wolverine game would have sold better than Insomniac's slop is going to.
David Hayter is entirely over rated as an actor, and his influence on Snake could be replicated by anyone else capable of repeating what they were asked.
I've never heard anyone call Hayter a great actor, it's just that he's as intrinsically linked with Snake/Big Boss as Hugh Jackman is with Wolverine or Kevin Conroy as Batman. It's not that nobody else could do the job as well, or even better, but the association is so deeply entrenched in people's minds they can't accept anyone else performing the role.

Personally I missed Hayter's voice acting in the Phantom Pain, but it didn't stop me enjoying the game (maybe because Big Boss barely speaks).

"Why aren't they buying our game?"
"maybe we aren't fagging the game enough? let's make games even gayer they'll surely buy it!"

it's the same as that david bateson and agent47, or mark vanderloo and shepard though it's more of a face model thing in shepard's case...

There was an arcade marvel beat em up in the 90s that had Wolverine and he was fucking awesome there. Acting like it's difficult to make Wolverine fun is retarded, I mean the guy got fucking claws on his fists that he slices opponents with. The main problem is just that he is made either completely PG 13 and sanitized or just uncomfortably gory, this game seems to do the latter. All you need is some anime-style blood spraying after he slices a guy's chest and simply make it exaggerated and stylish. Kill Bill did this 23 years ago, I don't know why western action media is so against doing that.

The main problem I can already see about the game is that it is a generic narrative focused AAA game and the combat seems like Batman Arkham "Spam action button to win" ordeal. A Wolverine game should be a hack and slash action game that's satisfying, flashy and doesn't focus on the story too much beyond just a generic comic book plotline. It doesn't need to be more than that and I think most people would gladly have that. Superhero games should be about being cool as fuck, not this sappy nu-wolverine hugh jackman knockoff gayness

Sony and their gay nigger story line games like the Nu God of War made me never buy new games. It's like they forgot that Video Games are just supposed to fun. Why can't Kratos jump and where is the combo counter? Why is everyone in this game a whiny bitch?
"We need to stop making games for immature men"
okay
"But you're still supposed to buy them"

Sidekick-man: MC, you need to locate the plot device
MC: Plot device?

MC: Got it. Locating the plot device.

Snoy scored a W by kicking Kojimbo out. TBH they should've done it right after DS2. Writing in this game was below Reddit tier. Gameplay was worse than in DS1 (thanks to cuckmobile), stealth (in A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME) was laughably bad.
Now it's time for XJeet to finance man's fetishes.

The old one is fucking *pissed* - pissed enough that they decide to go stag and they manage to lure in a bunch of talent like Lana Turner and Ava Gardner, taking advantage of their frustration with the old studio.

The new studio enjoys market dominance for a bit, only to ultimately squander it.
Holy fucking hell, Sony is that ruthless and stupid?

Warhawk was better. Some of the most fun I've had online next to CoD4.
I forgot Warhawk. Archipelago was an awesome map, I loved the small TDMs that took place on the one island with 3 levels (the landing pads on top, the narrow bridge underneath and the vegetation areas underneath that). There was always some asshole crouching behind the crate on the middle level ready to jump out and start swinging a knife the moment you pushed across. Capture the flag was never as fun as it was in Warhawk.

Edit: Oh damn, some guys are still playing

The complete tailspin for PS3 ended because PS+ had good bonus games, and cross-platform games for that gen managed to be really compelling (I played Black Ops more than any PS3 exclusive except maybe KZ2). There was also the expectation GT5 would be good. It ended up being an insult that destroyed PD's reputation, but not before 12 million people bought it. Look at how all the top ten games are late cycle. The PS3 came out in 2006.

Top 10 360 games were all cross-platform except Halo 3 (#1 is a pack-in, Kinect Adventures, like that counts).

Ultimately, the 360 was "the Call of Duty console." CoD was a bit prettier on the 360 than the PS3 and got map packs 30 days earlier.

All they have to do is mae a wolverine game that looks and plays like the old Ninja Gaiden games on the original xbox. That's literally it, and they refuse to do it.

Xbox is already dead, and Sony is fast killing themselves.

Good riddance to both, frankly. Consoles haven't been viable gaming platforms for over a decade now, I'm honestly surprised it took them this long to die.

I'm not really a fan of Kojima games, but I do find it hilarious how people will complain that Kojima games are overly cinematic and feel like nothing but cutscenes, without seeming to realise that every single AAA game is like this. GTA VI will be like this. Beloved PS5 classics like the Spider Man games are like this. They all have that "Hey I need you to spend the next 15 minutes walking ultra slowly around this room and occasionally pressing E on things to activate them while I deliver expoisition" gameplay, and it always sucks.

Just stop playing AAA games, to be honest.

I honestly can't see a major difference between slop like Wolverine and Insomniac's spider man, vs something like MGS 5. All of them are cutscene heavy, all of them have very restrictuve adventure-line setpiece missions. At least MGS 5 is actually kind of good once you get out into the overworld, which is more than I can say for any of the gameplay in any of these other games.
