Sony is in trouble with the PS5, if at all, only because the chip shortage and inflation means they are making less per unit sold when normally they would be making more per unit as time goes on. It's less of a problem for Microsoft because they have their supply chain better nailed down and cloud gaming is basically free because they have an existing cloud for business clients.

Japan isn't an equal market compared to the US anymore but per rata it still was, at least in your PS4 vs PS3 rates (PS4 sold 3 times as many units in a market that is three to four times larger.)
Oh yeah, also, supporting VR is going to be a boondoggle. Take it from a Nintendo fan, "wasting" dev time on an add-on with limited user-uptake is no recipe for success. Not to mention the general issue of supporting two different "platforms" generally.

I do believe the form factor will remain for the Switch's successor (which I don't think it'll come out before late 2024 at the very earliest) because the current hardware has already proved that the mobile tech evolved well enough to be comfortable for a majority of modern games, especially the japanese ones, with the exception of triple A productions. It just needs a small extra bump in power to smooth around some edges, but the hybrid concept itself is solid and very convenient hence its success.

Besides a difference of framerate, non-AAA games between Switch/Playstation/PC look and play very much the same.
There are obvious limitations to that form factor though, which even Nintendo have to be aware of at this point. Steam Deck showed what you could really do with it, if one threw caution and price to the wind, but that is generally not Nintendo's M.O.

I'm not sure what Sony wants to accomplished with all of this. Prevent CoD from going onto Gamepass? Why is all of the focus on this deal revolving around whether PlayStation continues to get CoD, a franchise they don't even own?

Nintendo hasn't gotten a CoD since the WiiU, and I'd say they're doing pretty good.

Yeah, but the difference is, Nintendo actually makes games that people enjoy playing. If Sony doesn't have COD, what else does it have? An expansion pack of a Spider-Man game that came out 4 years ago? God of War 2: Hand-Holding Boogaloo? A 70-FUCKING-DOLLAR "remaster" of an almost 10-year-old game that somehow, looks uglier than the PS3 original (and not in the good way either)?

COD was THE game on PS and they have historically bought, err I mean earned the marketing rights for COD so they are scared Phil Spencer will kill their cashcow.

10 years would be more than enough time to develop and work on their own shooter but they can't because Soyny won't do a game focused on muh guns. The genderspecials would freak out at the Commifornia HQ.

I dunno, they just seem really faggy about this. I am all for it, wanna watch the world burn.

One of the few times you might actually be thankful that Castlevania is in the hands of such lazy bastards as Konami because you KNOW that this will never happen.....

God of War Ragnarök’s director says he wants to work on Castlevania next

You guys can make it happen, because you have the audience of the world here… I don’t know what I’m doing next, but if somebody gives me that Castlevania license, we would love to make that.
"You should use the whip on this enemy, Simon!"

COD was THE game on PS
Maybe for the PS4. It was THE game on the 360 back in the day. I'd argue it was at its peak on the 360 in fact. Call of Duty is mostly remembered as being in a slump from Ghosts to Black Ops 4.

Which just really goes to show how dogshit Sony exclusives actually are that bullshit exclusives like XP boosts and hoard modes for a third party game are what they seemingly believe they need to sell their consoles.

It's interesting to imagine SIE stepping up first-party development significantly to stay competitive if they lose COD. But we know it won't happen, because they no longer care at all about small and/or Japanese games and would just shit out more awful western movie games with bloated budgets.

I can easily imagine them trying to think of what games would make killer apps for PS5 and deciding to fold a bunch of smaller studios into Naughty Dog to start making more cinematic over-the-shoulder third-person shooty franchises. Instead of subverting old ones with troon pandering and grrrl power, they'll make a new one that has those from the outset! It'll break new ground!

You'd think Sony would just try to bring back SOCOM and make a decent first party military TPS or FPS with the name.
But that would require hiring developers that aren't tranny faggots with daddy issues I guess.

Nintendo would never make a steam deck for the sole fact that meme gimmicks are their bread and butter and releasing a 599+ freedom bucks console is retarded

I would bet it won't be. The Modern Warfare reboot and Warzone gave it a shot in the arm, but I don't see it lasting much longer.

And that's not even getting into how Microsoft handled Halo for the last decade.
Yeah, so that 10 year deal would be effectively for the rest of the life of that series. I don't keep up with CoD, but what I do know is that apparently 2007's CoD4 was wildly successful, and they could do no wrong up through Black Ops 2. And then 2013's Ghosts happened, and it was apparently a massive disaster?

I didn't play it, but I remember seeing a ton of the box-o'-crap version being put on clearance for seriously, like, 90% off, and they still weren't moving. This one, specifically:

That was 9 years ago now, CoD's still going, but it never seemed to regain the esteem it had before Ghosts. Unless something enormous happens to shake things up, it's just waiting to be replaced by something newer, like a Fortnite to its PUBG.

Compare that to the lovely pink Dualshock 3:

I have that controller.

January is also going to be a big month for PS5 with Forspoken
Come on, don't shill for Final Fantasy Wakanda.

Sony is fucked because all their studios are making Druckmann-tier walking sims instead of delivering a AAA game in every major game genre. What happened to SOCOM, Syphon Filter and Resistance? Why not reboot them?
Their CEO seems to be scared of Gamepass and yet he refuses to turn PlayStation Plus into a similar product.

They've been working with Deviation games which are all FPS devs from Treyarch. It's possibly a new IP but it's already been confirmed to be an online multiplayer shooter.

Naughty Dog is working on a shooter, Team Asobi has a platformer in the works, and Guerilla Games is working on their first person VR title. They have a multitude of genres, but their action adventure titles seem to dominate everything else.

They might be working on them, but we seeing them or not is a whole different thing. Where's the TLOU multiplayer game?

Maybe they will diversify the genres they work on, but they haven't done it so far, and have moved it all towards the over the shoulder movie game.

Sony's adopted the whole approach that Nintendo has with keeping things under wraps until it's closer to launch. But also a ton of games were effected by Covid so things were pushed back just like God of War Ragnarok was.

According to this the game went into full production in 2022, so probably next quarter we should be seeing something.

It’s around this time of this year where Sony fanboys and elite journalists were shilling Cyberpunk 2077 for both the PS4 and PS5, while leaving most PC players let out to dry.

Meanwhile for me, this year, I’m thinking about getting the Judgment series:

Most, if not many, have claimed that this is the new age version of the Yakuza series but with detective work. Honestly, I’m looking forward to seeing if they’re right.
