No one cared because Sony didn't care, and treated it as an afterthought. Now because of that they're lagging behind. I don't see that as price dumping, otherwise every streaming service is price dumping. Just because Sony sat on the service they were first to the market with, it shouldn't mean competitors should dumb down their own services.ps now didn't really matter since ps+ had games and a library from day one. xbox live gold was just to allow your console to get online, microsoft only came up with games for gold after sony sweetened the deal. ps+ was good enough no one gave a shit about psnow, if you wanted to play an old game you simply bought a used copy for 5 bucks from gamestops (most normalfags only care about the FOTM anyway).
as for a cod competitor, none of those games have any brand value. maybe resistance and killzone, but that's it. so sony would not only need to spend a fuckload on marketing to get the brand known again, they'd also need to find someone being able to do it, and one look at the recent AAA lineups should tell you enough. it's much simpler and safer to pay someone else and get a cut than burden the risk.
there's also the fact that microsoft's warchest is much much bigger than sony's. I highly doubt they could ever buy activision even if they wanted to, or even some crapheap like ubisoft.
Alright, Destiny then. Not the same exact genre, but could retool the pvp to something actually good. Wouldn't be exclusive, but it has brand appeal and a good userbase, so it'd do well. But I'd like a new major arena shooter franchise. CoD is meh, Battlefield sucks, Halo keeps sucking, Titanfall is pushed aside, etc. Reinvent Killzone or Resistance and make things interesting in the market.
The only thing it really hurt was Xbox themselves. Shuttered their 1st party to a pathetic amount, focuses on Kinect which brought short-term profits for long-term mediocrity, got laughed out of PC with GFWL, and the Xbox One reveal which.... Yeah. Don Mattrick really did a number on the brand, but the industry itself was fine. But you're right, I don't want them leading the industry. I want them to keep fighting upwards to have to provide good stuff.you do NOT want microsoft to lead the industry unchecked. the last time was during the 360 era, and look what that got us.
