ps now didn't really matter since ps+ had games and a library from day one. xbox live gold was just to allow your console to get online, microsoft only came up with games for gold after sony sweetened the deal. ps+ was good enough no one gave a shit about psnow, if you wanted to play an old game you simply bought a used copy for 5 bucks from gamestops (most normalfags only care about the FOTM anyway).

as for a cod competitor, none of those games have any brand value. maybe resistance and killzone, but that's it. so sony would not only need to spend a fuckload on marketing to get the brand known again, they'd also need to find someone being able to do it, and one look at the recent AAA lineups should tell you enough. it's much simpler and safer to pay someone else and get a cut than burden the risk.

there's also the fact that microsoft's warchest is much much bigger than sony's. I highly doubt they could ever buy activision even if they wanted to, or even some crapheap like ubisoft.
No one cared because Sony didn't care, and treated it as an afterthought. Now because of that they're lagging behind. I don't see that as price dumping, otherwise every streaming service is price dumping. Just because Sony sat on the service they were first to the market with, it shouldn't mean competitors should dumb down their own services.

Alright, Destiny then. Not the same exact genre, but could retool the pvp to something actually good. Wouldn't be exclusive, but it has brand appeal and a good userbase, so it'd do well. But I'd like a new major arena shooter franchise. CoD is meh, Battlefield sucks, Halo keeps sucking, Titanfall is pushed aside, etc. Reinvent Killzone or Resistance and make things interesting in the market.

you do NOT want microsoft to lead the industry unchecked. the last time was during the 360 era, and look what that got us.
The only thing it really hurt was Xbox themselves. Shuttered their 1st party to a pathetic amount, focuses on Kinect which brought short-term profits for long-term mediocrity, got laughed out of PC with GFWL, and the Xbox One reveal which.... Yeah. Don Mattrick really did a number on the brand, but the industry itself was fine. But you're right, I don't want them leading the industry. I want them to keep fighting upwards to have to provide good stuff.

And this is what happens when you rely on third parties to shore up your content output. They get bought out, you are left holding the bag.
They'd be in a better position if they kept up ALL their third party relationships.
In the same way they abandoned most of their first party developers to put all their eggs in the Naughty Dog and Guerilla baskets, they abandoned all their third party ties to chase CoD and a few other big name titles
Their "too big to fail" games failing and the third parties they threw cash at selling out is poetic justice

What's the odds that the PS6 will be Sony's Saturn or Wii U? Do you think Sony's die hard fanboys will have patience if the next console will have all the problems of the PS5?
Those are two pretty different situations. The Saturn was the beginning of the end for Sega (assuming you don’t look too hard into the 32X) enough so that the Dreamcast, while loved by fans, was too little too late. The Wii U was a failure on its own but led to the creation of what will likely end up being Nintendo’s best selling console.

But I’ll take your question a step further: does the public even care about the PS5’s problems? The few people I hear talk about Sony offline are casual players who are still just as excited about God of War/Horizon/CoD as ever. Is this a Switch Online expansion pass situation where the Internet will bitch about it but it’ll still be massively successful, or are Sony’s problems actually adding up into something that could seriously impact the future of the Playstation brand?

The PlayStation brand's still a big one, and tons and tons of PS5s would have sold from name recognition alone if there weren't an ongoing shortage with no end in sight as we approach the console's third anniversary. The lengths of this kind of shortage, combined with the availability of everything else, even Xbox Series Xs at retail, will start shattering the brand loyalty of just about everyone but Marissa Moira-tier loyalists. If a normie gives up and goes with an Xbox this gen to play CoD with his buddies, that normie won't need to buy a PS5 now. That's not just a lost sale, that's another person taken out of the PlayStation ecosystem.

Casual fans of PlayStation won't know or care about Goodbye Volcano High's announcement at launch and the whole fiasco that's been, but that was a seriously bad omen for things to come. The kind of people who think putting that garbage front and center during the console's reveal was a good idea are the kind of people steering the ship, and that's a ship I want off of.

You're forgetting one other major detail - the price. No normie's gonna pay $400-500 for a PS5 when they can get a Series S for $100 less.

That and plus emulator consoles are getting popular by the day. I see more people wanting to play PS1 and PSP on Chinese multigame consoles that range from $90 to almost $200 dollars.

That and plus the Valve Steam Deck is still a thing.

ReviewCucumberUSA has gone off looking to fabricate a news story out of a random developer comment. In an effort to cover up for the shit optimization of their new Game Gotham Knights, Rocksteady Dev calls the series S a potato.

Most online commentators have labeled this an unfounded comment or just diverting from the games poor performance, Rich saw it as an opportunity.
Two videos about a random comment that Digital Foundry even called questionable.
And a couple anti Microsoft videos.

I know Rich strays into the Sony fanboy camp a lot but he's at the point of just fabricating news from thin air now just to prop up a plastic box.

In other news:
maxresdefault (3).jpg
Renowned Sony Pony Dreamcastguy has deleted his previous video and doubled down on his feigned hate of Bayonetta because a fat woman cried and lied.
He's posted a lot of other dumb shit too lately but I won't even bother watching it to critique. Just a failure of a human continuing to exist.

I was wondering why this thread had a notable drop in its autism quota recently. Did he ever get around to posting his supposed collection screenshot?
The excuse Marissa always gave for not posting his supossed collection was because he was afraid someone would dox him.
Assuming he was telling the truth (Haha) I doubt he will show up here again after null gave the notice of a breach.

Most games are still being developed with 2013's Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in mind, as well as 2017's Nintendo Switch which runs on Android hardware, but okay lol

Marissa posted an image of some discs he threw into his scanner, some of which were very expensive PS1 games, but nothing that could actually dox him. Meanwhile, I think several of us here in the thread have mentioned we have games obscure enough to where we actually could get doxed. I doubt he actually had anything to fear.

I doubt anyone is going to dox me with Tail of the Sun, Lock's Quest, and the Gameboy version of Qix. Oh shit, boys. I just heard a knock on my door.

apparently he didn't even work on gotham knights, lol.
there have also been 1-2 indies come out the last days saying the same.

so not a complete fabrication. he has purged his twitter by now, but this was one of his other takes:

Now I'll pirate his games out of spite.

I imagine there's some potential that the series S could be an issue in the future. Some people I've seen review it say its a highly capable box that's on par or above a Xbox one X in terms of power. I believe somebody did comment this week that the notion that developers could just scale down resolution for the series S versions of games might not be as realistic as Microsoft envisioned. Its still waiting on more data and time how that bears out overall.

By the end of the generation the ps5 disc-less model could be a better or worse strategy depending on how things go. I do see a lot of people who give deference to Sony who seem to indicate they think that was the better strategy. I'm honestly not sure exactly how it will play out. I believe Rich is trying to read tea leaves that haven't risen to the top of the cup yet, but that tends to be a pattern for him.

Make games that are worth $100. I don't mean pad them out. I mean make a game filled with worthwhile content. If it's a short game, so be it.
