I mean, they bought Bungie not too long ago.
bunghole is no activision, and you know it. lot of people consider that move retarded anyway given the price sony paid and bungie still being independent.
mind you that's the company bobby kotick rather let out of their 10 year contract early to fuck off than gut them
Microsoft is ALLOWING the previous contracts that Sony had with Activision Blizzard to go through
uwot? that's not how contracts work. the only thing microsoft "allowed" was to not pay the fine (and I shouldn't have to explain being the company who can't stick to contracts is a very bad look), or get dragged into court. this "good guy microsoft" is some /v/-tier cope.
yes, sony got caught with their pants down while sucking tranny cock, but that doesn't mean all their grievances aren't legit. for example, the price dumping via game pass; I can fucking guarantee you the last thing microsoft wants is the legal system take a look at that and their other shenanigans, and at worst case set a precedence for the whole industry (and that's not to say depending on the contract they never could've done it anyway, but spinning it this way looks much better for smoothbrains). it also ignores the repercussions for the industry at large.
I get it, microsoft dunking on the sony lolcow and letting you rent games for cheap is funny and "based", however it misses the bigger picture. sony being retarded is just funny. microsoft being retarded is outright cancer, you do NOT want microsoft to lead the industry unchecked. the last time was during the 360 era, and look what that got us.
that's what I mean with fucking perspective.
Taking the extension would give plenty of time to shop around for a dev to make a new Killzone, Resistance, or SOCOM game. SOCOM especially as their only competitor would be Rainbow Six, and Ubisoft are trying their hardest to mess that franchise up.
But this is exactly what Jim Ryan is fighting against. He doesn't want to rise to the competition. They had PSNow for years before Gamepass, and before it was always an afterthought. No marketing, no hype, just... there. They had to be dragged into improving it, like the quaint idea of letting you install games. But it's still behind in that they won't put their games day-one on it. So they sure as heck won't want to bother with (relatively) smaller games like Killzone or SOCOM that won't guarantee millions of sales like their others.
If the deal somehow falls through, it'll probably fuck with ABK's stock and they'll be less likely to cooperate with Sony. I'd laugh if they decided to make Xbox/PC exclusives anyway after the deal fell, and put the blame on Jim Ryan.
ps now didn't really matter since ps+ had games and a library from day one. xbox live gold was just to allow your console to get online, microsoft only came up with games for gold after sony sweetened the deal. ps+ was good enough no one gave a shit about psnow, if you wanted to play an old game you simply bought a used copy for 5 bucks from gamestops (most normalfags only care about the FOTM anyway).
as for a cod competitor, none of those games have any brand value.
maybe resistance and killzone, but that's it. so sony would not only need to spend a fuckload on marketing to get the brand known again, they'd also need to find someone being able to do it, and one look at the recent AAA lineups should tell you enough. it's much simpler and safer to pay someone else and get a cut than burden the risk.
there's also the fact that microsoft's warchest is much much bigger than sony's. I highly doubt they could ever buy activision even if they wanted to, or even some crapheap like ubisoft.
