I have nostalgia for the Adventure games. They introduced me to Sonic proper and I just enjoyed the music and vibe they had. Yeah, they are very clearly flawed in retrospect, it I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have some soft spot for them.

Never could get into the older 2D games for whatever reason. That was always more by brother’s thing.

06 was an absolute disaster in the best way possible. I grew to love watching other people online suffer through it and react to all the bugs, loading screens and absolutely stupid and nonsensical story.

In retrospect I have to ask: Sonic Labyrinth. Who in the world thought it was a good idea to make a game based entirely on taking away the one thing people like to play Sonic for? That would kill most series nowadays.

Shadow with a gun was the least offensive one.
I won't argue that objectively, Shadow the Hedgehog was a shit game, but at a certain point it hits "so shit it's fun" for me. Might be my lack of taste again, idk. Least Crush 40 kept the soundtrack from being horrible.

Granted, that's usually the saving grace for most Sonic games - even if it's complete dogshit, the soundtrack is passable

Sonic has always been more about presentation. By that metric, Unleashed is the greatest Sonic game of the modern era.

From a story perspective, it was weird how they retconned Gerald and G.U.N. into good guys. I'm curious as to whether there was some disagreement at Sonic Team.

Shadow sold over two million copies, in an egregious demonstration that crime does pay.

Honestly, at this point, Sega should just say "Fuck it" and play to their core audience by going full autistic retard and making an M-rated remake of Shadow the Hedgehog that's pretty much just a GTA clone now that GTA is exclusively comprised of GTA Online and porting GTA V over and over again.

Let's be real here, it's not like any actual kids play the Sonic games anymore, especially not the ones with the edgy side characters, just spergy Millennials and maybe a few of the oldest Early Zoomer spergs.

Sonic is a magnet for autism, stupidity, and insanity.

Shadow was low-key racist and an emo kid. I wouldn't be surprised he was some 00s kid's violent fantasy.

Shadow the Hedgehog is very much the kind of character that could only have been made in the same era that gave us Sasuke Uchiha, Linkin Park, Hot Topic mall goths, My Chemical Romance, New Atheism, and those god-awful Matrix sequels.

FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME ♪

I'm glad that taking candy from babies is fine by him.

To play Devil's advocate: Sonic was created to mirror western attitudes. He doesn't evolve as a character, either.

Another thing to consider is Amy, who seems to be the least-liked member of the ensemble.

It's become habit for characters to stick around long after their purpose is fulfilled, particularly if they're a furry of some kind. (It was never made quite clear why Gerald raised a hedgehog in the first place. Isn't Shadow an alien?)

Sonic Labyrinth could’ve been good if it were more like Kirby Tilt ‘n Tumble, that sort of gimmick would work well for Sonic.

I'm game for another spinoff. Maybe in the Wario vein.

I wasn't joking the other day about Paper Sonic.

I'd play that. You could do a ton of neat things with that world and lean more into the goofy fun stuff instead of trying to make a game about a blue hedgehog into a serious wartime drama. Has Sonic had a RPG before?

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on the DS is an RPG and it’s...not good. The most memorable part is the garbage MIDI soundtrack.
