Pretty much my exact thoughts. Worrisome that they didn't show any gameplay of Rangers. Keeping my expectations mighty low.
Sorry for the double post, but this is an important bit of news:
The version of S3+K in Sonic Origins is confirmed to be widescreen https://twitter.com/KatieChrz/status/1397972387870642178
if that's the case, does that mean that the version of Sonic 1 and 2 will be the mobile ones that Christian Whitehead made since they were widescreen as well?

If so, then that would be worth it then, considering the mobile versions had other goodies too like Tails & Knuckles in Sonic 1 and Hidden Palace Zone in Sonic 2, and i know everyone has been asking for the mobile games to be on other shit for quite some time. CD was already re-released for PC, so it didn't get locked into mobile oblivion like the other two did.

This also means Sonic3K might get other good shit added to it like the other 2 games did.
No thanks, I'll stick with Sonic 3 AIR. Why? One reason and one reason only:
Sonic 2 Sprite in Sonic 3.JPG

You can play as the infinitely better Sonic 1/2/CD sprite as opposed to Sonic 3's.

Something about Sonic 3's design never sat right with me. I dunno what, but it's there, and it drove me nuts.
And the second best Sonic game is Spinball. Fight me.
Argh!! My kingdom for a gas chamber!

Alright boys, whip out your lists and let's settle this. It's time for ScrewAttack's Top Five Sonic Games of All Time:
  1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles
  2. Sonic Spinball
  3. Sonic 1
  4. Sonic 2
  5. Sonic CD
Honorable mention: Sonic R.

Alright you're up, Handsome Tom.
Can any of you still hear the announcer voice?
>ranking Spinball as the second best Sonic game
>ranking it over SONIC 2
>ranking Sonic 1 over Sonic 2, for that matter
excuseme.gif

What drugs are you on? And can I get some, because that sounds like some good-ass shit you're getting in order to even think a ranking like that is remotely acceptable. Legit, the only reason you're not in front of a firing squad right now is because you rightly ranked S3&K as #1.
all of that makes anything SEGA did more excusable in comparisson, and SEGA also tries to innovate, it's not like if Nintendo does this to, they rerealeased a collection of old Mario games for 60$ and Sonic also tries new things, but people will brush them off as gimmicks, even though Mario Sunshine, Galaxy and Odyssey are all gimmicky games aswell.
Sega also cares more about their old IPs than Nintendo does: Streets of Rage 4, the Wonder Boy 3 and Monster World IV remakes, Shenmue 3, Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX, the Panzer Dragoon remake (there's also one of Zwei in the works), etc. Granted, they were licensed out to other studios, and Shenmue 3 in particular isn't very good, but hey, it's more than what Nintendo's doing. See: the fact that Nintencucks are STILL screaming for a new F-Zero or a Mother 3 translation.
Doing research on SEGA from their console days really opened my eyes on how hard-headed they’ve been. They’d rather fail on their own terms instead of succeeding through the advice of outsiders.
For real. This book in particular was a real eye-opener. For instance - the Playstation was originally going to be a joint Sega-Sony system after Nintendo stabbed the latter in the back:
“We got together with [Sony] and defined what we'd like to see in our next hardware. We had this great idea that it should be a joint SEGA-Sony hardware system. If we had to take a loss on the hardware (which was the norm then), we'd split the loss on the hardware, but we wouldn't split software, so any software they did, they'd get 100% of the profits, and any software we did, we'd get 100% of the profits. It seemed like a fair deal since we were eons ahead of them in terms of software development. …So we go to Japan, and Sony management liked the idea. Then we went to SEGA, and Nakayama (Sega of Japan CEO) hated the idea. [laughs] So that was the end of that, and the rest is history once again. Those were the specs that became the PlayStation.” - Tom Kalinske (Sega of America CEO)
And, believe it or not, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, this time with Silicon Graphics:
"We went down the road to Silicon Graphics and met with [SGI founder] Jim Clark. They had bought MIPS Technologies, and they were developing a chipset for use in a game machine. We liked it, so we called up the Japanese guys to come take a look at it. The hardware guys came over, and they really pooh-poohed the whole effort. The chip was too big; there would be too much waste; lots of objections from a technical standpoint. It was upsetting to us, because we thought it was better in terms of speed, graphics, and audio. …So, the SGI guys went away and worked on these issues and then called us back up and asked that the same team be sent back over, because they had it all resolved. This time, Nakayama went with them. They reviewed the work, and there was sort of the same reaction: still not good enough. …So after we had this meeting, I had to report back to Jim Clark, who was then Chairman of Silicon Graphics and tell him that SEGA wasn't going to be buying, and he asked, 'Well, what should I do now?' and I said, 'Well, there's this other game company up in the Seattle area. I think their name starts with an N.' And of course, he did. He went up there and sold it to them, and that, of course, became the foundation for the Nintendo 64." - Tom Kalinske
God, those two are a couple of the greatest "what ifs" of gaming history. I'd love to go to the alternate universes where either of the two happened. Maybe we'd be hearing about the Sega/Sony Playstation 5.... *sigh*
Compare that with, say, Sonic 1 & 2 for the Master System, which seriously expected you to find emeralds scattered in levels without scrolling past them. And how you were supposed to do that without the official strategy guide is beyond me.
PSA: Watch Imakuni. She's underrated AF, as far as Vinesauce goes.
They still are Sonic fans and really run the spectrum (no pun intended) you'll either have some retard's edgy oc or trannies turning Sonic trans.

(It's kinda sad cuz both of these modders appeared to have some level of talent)

This is why the Sonic fanbase is one of the bigger laughingstocks of the Internet.... :cryblood:

You don't understand pinball. You get the rope you nigger cunt. I'll rape you.

Also Nintendo has treated Sonic and Pac-Man and Mega Man better than their parent companies ever have. KILL YOURSELF.

1. Kirby did the whole "adapting its series' particulars to pinball" thing better, on a system with half the bits, and in the same fucking year.
For one thing, it was pinball all the way through. No "half-platforming, half-pinball" bullshit. Secondly, it didn't control like a hyperactive kid on crack-cocaine. Thirdly, the music doesn't make your fucking ears bleed:

2. "Nintendo put these characters in an autistic crossover fighting game, so therefore they've treated their games better than their parent companies ever did, lol!" Ignoring the fact that Mega Man 11 happened, and Namco regularly puts Pac-Man games in its Museum collections.

Also, you first, Redditor faggot.

THIS NIGGER TALKING ABOUT GOD-TIER KIRBY IN A SHITTY-SONIC THREAD.

Oh the reason Sonic 1 and 2 are lower than Spinball is because Sonic 3 & Knuckles renders the first two irrelevant. The only reason they are on the list is to take up space. And Sonic CD is the troll game on the list, 3D Blast is better.

Huh. I just noticed that by putting Spinball at number two, it makes Sonic nerds prove my points for me.

Those points being that Sonic was never good.

I actually 100% agree with you on that. Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and to a lesser extent, Mania, are legit the perfect examples of the Classic Sonic formula. There's literally no reason to go back to 1 and 2 now (unless they're the Christian Whitehead ports).
And Sonic CD is the troll game on the list, 3D Blast is better.
bruh ice cube.gif

Now I know, you're smoking that nut shit. Either that, or you were literally dropped on your head as a baby. 3D Blast and CD are at least as equally as bad as each other, both for the same reason: they make you search all over the place for collectibles, defeating the main purpose of a Sonic game. Except 3D Blast is arguably worse, because unlike in CD, the collectibles (Flickies) are mandatory for completing the level. And if you're going for all the Emeralds, hooo boy.....

You're literally disproving your point by arguing with me - a random-ass nigga on the internet - over your ranking of classic Sonic games. Also, that makes you, by definition, a Sonic nerd. Go back to Reddit, faggot.

honestly i also find 3D blast way more enjoyable than CD tbh, atleast in 3D Blast you could easily find the badniks and get those flickies and it was way more fun than finding the generator.. 3D Blast deserves some more love than CD. CD may have the style, the muisc (Japanese version) and Metal Sonic, but 3D Blast is just more fun to me. and tbh i also found spinball to be decently fun. although it's far from the Top 5.

Also wait. Mania was garbage.

If you can back that up with legit reasons, you will have earned my eternal respect.
I really don't understand the cult status that CD has. Unless it is "cult" as in "a bunch of retards that gave their money to a blue liar."
The "cult" status is mostly because, due to the Sega CD's rarity, many people hadn't gotten a chance to play it. So when those who had claimed it was the "BEST SANIC GAME EVAR", many who didn't took that to heart. Notice how that opinion started to get more divisive after the Retro Engine port came out in 2011. More people playing it directly correlates to that.

I have a huge soft spot for CD because it was the very first Sonic game I ever played, and I played it when I was super young so my earliest memories of Sonic were playing Palmtree Panic and Tidal Tempest on my parents' ancient computer (Tidal Tempest's music was basically burned into my brain, as was the boss music because holy shit that was creepy to little kid me). But then for whatever reason the game stopped working when we upgraded our computer and it would be years before I could ever actually play the game again.

I've played the Steam release since then. I don't think it's better than the original games, not by a long shot. The level design is a little too incoherent in comparison, and I don't even bother with the exploration most of the time. I just settle for nabbing the time stones instead to get the best ending. That being said, I do like the game. It's like a stopgap between Sonic 1 and 2 (probably because it was developed that way), and I really like the music.

It's got it's cult status as the poor man's knuckles chaotix. You want to really swing your "lesser known sonic games" dick around Knuckles Chaotix is the one to do it with since it has no official ports or remasters. It's also probably the most expensive sonic title to get a hold of. It's a keystone to the overall sonic lore while sonic CD has had many of it's original lore additions redone by other games or erased.

I can't believe that they're making yet another collection and haven't thrown in Chaotix in there, it can't be hard to at the very least emulate it right?
I wish they would at least throw in the game gear games since I really like Triple Trouble, but also see how people react to Sonic Labyrinth, you know the one where can't even run and have to spindash around

I think it has to do with how comparatively elusive it was back in the day. The Sega CD sold less than 3 million units vs. the 30 million units of the Genesis. Very few people played the game upon its initial release, giving it an air of mystery, making it seem special.

Knuckles chaotix was more elusive, also the Sega CD has zero copy protection so it reads regular old CD-RWs with burnt .iso files just fine with no modifications.

Back when Sega CD originally released they thought that it wouldn't be a big deal because consumers wouldn't have access to a device like that. Flash forward to the Saturn and they were already becoming commonplace.
