Okay why are an ex-SEGA sped and the Sonic social media guy having a public spat on Twitter, exactly? More to the point, why should I care about some ass-blasted contracter getting salty at SEGA? This seems like a whole lotta nothing after Aaron came in and explained everything.

From what I understand, this artist called Rafaela Knight has been shittalking Sega on Twitter for months and Aaron just got sick of it. Did some quick research and apparently she's been whining about how unfair the world is for a very long time and has been blacklisted by Sega/Archie/IDW et al because she's got a habit of smearing companies publicly as well as privately on her Discord channel.

Might be interesting to look further into her, the stupid shit she says like this seems like it's got potential for funnies.

Is it an actual woman or a troon? Either way, she spells like a moron.

hey guys. so i'm gonna bump this thread because there was one more sonic game on the sega saturn that i didn't bring up before.

Sonic Jam. released on the sega saturn in june of 1997 in japan, and then the US in july, and then EU in august. development on this game started after the release of NiGHTS into Dreams, which is one of the best games on the saturn.

the game is a collection of sonic's genesis games.

Sonic 1
sonic 2
sonic 3
sonic spinball
and sonic and knuckles and you can use the lock on technology function from the game's cartridge to connect it to the other games. so you can play sonic 3 and knuckles, knuckles in sonic 2, and blue sphere.

also, you can do the spin dash in sonic 1.

besides that, there is also the hub world. sonic world

the sonic world is supposed to be a prototype of sonic adventure. you go around and do missions.

there are buildings that you can visit that show you stuff about sonic.

the gallery, which contains all images from sonic the screen saver.

the movie theater. which has sonic CD's JP opening and ending, a JP trailer for Sonic's animated movie, an animation of sonic, an unpublished animation of CG sonic, and japanese commercials for sonic's genesis and game gear games and sonic CD.

a sound test for all of the music and sound effects from sonic's genesis games.

the character house. which has artwork and rough sketches of characters and enemies from sonic's games

and the hall of fame. which has a history of sonic and games released by year, and also showing promotional events, like the cherry coke summer tour from 1993. and the time sonic was in the Macy's thanksgiving parade in 1993.

all in this video here.

and that's it for the sega saturn version, but there's also its very shitty Game.com version. the gameplay right here.

look at the gameplay. it looks really sluggish and the sounds are bad. its so bad that it makes sonic 1's gba port look decent.

anyway, sonic jam was good for a game collection and the sonic world hub was interesting and all the movies and artwork were nice.

the series is so dead! i just dont see a way for them to recover. it speaks volumes that a fan game out-shined all the games you have made in recent years.
Funny you should mention that, SEGA is actually listening to critics and are planning to retool the development times for future Sonic games so that they can be higher quality (I've also linked the video in the article, the issue is addressed at 14:21).

But like anything SEGA shits out you should take this with a grain of salt.

never heard of it. is it good? and is there a link to it?
It's an extremely old fangame from 1998 that is still in development to this day. It's a 3D platformer based on a specific Doom engine that intends to recreate the feel of classic Sonic but in 3D, in the end kinda sorta feeling like the mainline Saturn game we never got. It succeeds reasonably well in my opinion, though admittedly it was kind of weird having to adapt to the control scheme it wants you to play with.

Not too long ago it received a major update and the game is pretty much almost complete at this point, having 7 two-act zones with bosses, plenty of unlockables and fully realized special stages based on NiGHTS into Dreams. Also the game's OST is pretty neat.

The update gave the game a lot of decent momentum on Youtube. In fact, it was this one video that made me want to try it again and I think showcases the game well enough:

SRB2 even has a kart racer mod with 100 tracks and a shit ton of characters, with both local and online multiplayer.

I remember playing this a few years ago. Sonic still had a 2D sprite, so I'm guessing the 3D model is a recent addition. I was more impressed by the game running on the Doom engine (seriously, you can do damn near anything on it nowadays) than I was by the game itself. It felt clunky with a keyboard; Sonic's movement felt slippery and I could barely control him with the tiny arrow keys. I should give it a shot again, this time with a controller.

The 3D models are a mod actually. It appears to be a popular one, though, since it's also compatible with several other mods that include new characters

I recently picked up two Genesis systems off eBay and some Sonic carts. They work great. I had to use an RCA to HDMI converter and it looks like ass on my 4K panel, but it’d probably look better on an old standard-def CRT.

Do fan games count in this thread? I remember playing Sonic Robo Blast 2 as a kid many years ago thinking it was kind of crappy. Recently I gave it a second chance using a controller and I'm having a fucking blast now. This game really has come a long way
Did you see the SRB2 founders' "Pokemon Soccer"?

I feel like this might have ended up as another "Sonichu" if not for the fact that animation takes time.

Sorry for the double post, but after 100%ing the game and looking into its development history it turns out that it's not really a case of "it has come a long way" and it's more like "the game was in a state of constant creative stagnation for a decade and managed to release an incredibly huge update in spite of it in December of last year". What I'm trying to say is that the update the game received in December is MASSIVE. As in, it feels like it turned into a completely different game overnight in the shift between 2.1 and 2.2. The first 6 zones received an overhaul in both visuals and design, the entire soundtrack was remade, controls were improved, slopes were added, the list goes on. There's a decent chance you'll like it now if you had any interest in it when you first played it.

The game's future is also really bright since some recent drama kicked out some old members of the dev team that were indirectly/directly holding back the game and the modding community creatively. It's a long story, but the short of it is that it's very likely that the SRB2 will get more constant quality updates as a result of it.

Don't know if this had been posted, but a while back it was announced IDW characters Tangle and Whisper will be added to mobage Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces Speed Battle. This also has had the side effect of pissing Archie fans.
