Social media manager for SEGA says there's more info about Origins coming soon. No idea what it could be though.

Knuckles isn't in Sonic CD, are you fucking kidding me?

I'm kind of disappointed that it's just 4 games instead of the collection that I had between two GameCube discs.
I miss when companies had to try and make the best product they could, mainly because of the higher competition and lack of ravenous fans that would buy anything back then.

All of this just screams pure laziness and once again does not look good for the future of the franchise, there's no reason why Sega can't make a better collection of old games after it's been 17 years and the fans make better additions to the games then what they're doing.

So aside from the Sonic Movie 2, we've got a very mediocre Sonic Minecraft DLC, a shitty remake of Sonic Colors that had retarded pre-order shit connected to it, a third-party Roblox game with tons of microtransactions, and now yet another remake of old games but this time with the same shit the Sonic Colors one had plus having seemly no worthwhile extra content to it.

Just imagine all the good will Sega would have earned if they released this as a single package at $30. Moves like this show that the current leadership isn’t that far removed from the folks who completely squandered the position they had in the industry in the early 1990s.

I don’t think anyone mentioned this before, but I fucking hate Tyson Hesse’s version of Sonic. He always looks too soft and cheery to me. The old Sonic wasn’t like that.
I’m gonna use Sonic CD screenshots because that’s clearly what his design is based on.
...
I’m pissed.
You wouldn't happen to be the anon on /sthg/ seething about 'meme faces' and Tyson Hesse, would you?

My main concern is that they keep falling back on the same four or five games because it's the safest option that routinely rakes in money.

As for why they didn't make another retro-inspired game like Mania, who knows, at this point? For some reason, the 2D games have largely died off with the DS.

I think that they don't do it for two reasons:

Taxman and with this Head-canon separated after Mania, most likely to commercial disputes (not enough funding or pay, something which sega has done before) or a lack of a repeatable formula.

Sega doesn't want to lend more of their franchise to fans, something which could destroy bases and make the state of the franchise worse, even if they are much better 90% of the time (for an opposite case, see TF2).

Aside from those two reasons or just the lack of business ventures thanks to an isolated workplace with no original ideas, something which hasn't happened with the creation of sonic mania in the first place, i don't know.

He just looks like Sonic to me

Anyways lazy Sonic complication, yay :suffering:

I'm fine with both artstyles, but there is a specific vibe coming off sonic missing from these new animations present in older ones.
...HOWEVER. they gave him BROWN EYES! RUINED FOREVER!!! SONIC'S EYES AREN'T BROWN!!! :c
Don't follow your idol.

I still don't like the brown eyes, black eyes are better.

Speaking of the "too friendly" shit though, I've noticed a lot of youtube essay videogame guys that cover sonic these days on top of now seemingly being in the whole "sonic never good in 3d" or "sonic good in 3d but the adventure games are HORRIBLY AGED because of the other gameplay styles I don't understand!" seem to either forget or assume sonic's mildly dickish/deliquent attitude was solely a USA localization thing, which baffles me considering the localized mobius shit was the kind where sonic was literally giving kids PSAs and part of the reason those are so infamous is due to how fucking weird it is having sonic the fucking hedgehog of all people going "don't go inside the washing machine kids! statistically every year at least 1 kid does this and ends up dead!"
Also, even with the unaltered OVA clips mostly flagged off youtube by bandai's streaming service bots, this one survives
https://youtube.com/watch?v=vqE-nAV9XnkIf you show people like that examples like this they WILL write it off as "oh that's just the bad sonic OVA" but there's just CONSTANT examples of this characterization of sonic even in things where he's more friendly. It's odd, being a character directly inspired by cartoons from the first half of the 1900s he seems to have been slowly meeting a fate similar to those characters in modern day where perceptions have distorted amongst people in media talking about him, as has the writing of the character.

I recently saw a youtube video review by some "RETRO GAMES!!! WOW!!!" kinda guy that I shit you not called the fact powerups were hidden in the stage behind small puzzles in SA2 something like "too obscure confusing and old school" for him. I'm guessing those are the kinda guys these things are being piecemealed apart for. Unlockables you need to work for are too hard.
Yeah, basically, new thing bad, old thing good. Smug asshole Sonic better than cheery baby Sonic.
Also, try using more periods. That second paragraph is kinda hard to read.

Sonic’s eyes were sometimes made brown in the Archie comic and I kinda like it.

I don't see the fuss. They're barely distinguishable from the black eyes from a distance. It's not entirely faithful to classic sonic, but Tyson's take is suppose to be more a touched up version of him.
I know, it's just that small detail which doesn't break anything, but it's specific nature makes it extremely weird to see, even more when black eyes are easier to touch up and animate, even more when the black eyes had a lot of details on the first place, it's a little bit more work without any reason.

Colours Ultimate was very disappointing, but aside from the pricing I think Origins is still a solid package. Sure, it could have more games, but a collection of arguably some of the best versions of 1-CD with bonus missions, multiple soundtracks (from games not included in the collection), a museum with never before seen content, new cutscenes written by Ian Flynn, a story mode that connects all games together etc. etc. this is far from the worst deal I've ever seen. The DRM refusing to die on PC is fucking retarded though I'll give you that.

new cutscenes written by Ian Flynn, a story mode that connects all games together etc. etc.
One small question, how would the said story mode that "connects all games together" work when you're playing as Knuckles?

Also, it's a Classic Sonic game with presumably no voice acting so I have no idea why it would be a big deal that Ian Flynn is writing for it.

And again unless they add some new levels or I guess unique story beats, I'm still not all that interested in games that I've played thousands of times in the past.

Headcannon games, and other assorted fans who've worked on their own fangames/romhacks also worked on Origins, so it's stands to reason that SEGA is fairly receptive to working with fans.

According to Stealth, Headcannon is a 'brand' that he solely owns, everyone else working under the Headcannon banner is a contractor.

I would assume it's Sonic and/or Tails exclusive. As for the cutscenes, writing probably means storyboarding in this case.

But why? There is no lore reason for why Tails would even be on Little Planet nor for Knuckles being in the events of Sonic 1 and 2, it's just pure easiness why they won't add him so they probably going to pull some weird shit with his story if the story mode isn't just for Sonic which could very likely be the case.

That doesn't mean anything as well with the storyboarding thing, it won't have his style of writing and if anything it would feel more like Mania Adventure which isn't a bad thing but there's no reason for why they have Ian writing for the game other than name recognition.

Now I do find it interesting how they are that they are leaning hard into the island aspect because it was already brought up inside the little Tails Vtuber thing that they are going to solidify the world by making Mobian live on islands and humans live in cities.

But that's something that already ready was in the classic games and there really isn't too much they can do with it aside from adding extremely small lore hints in the cutscenes, it's obviously there just the set up people for Sonic Frontiers when the ideas is going to return.
I bet that animated trailer they posted is made up of clips of these cutscenes so you either beat a game or zone or something and it plays a cutscenes.
The Hidden Palace Zone one has to be either made only for the trailer or it will show up in the ending credits because it wouldn't make sense being in gameplay otherwise.
