Hearing that tidbit straight out of Christian Whitehead's mouth has gone a long way towards alleviating some of the doubts I have about Superstars. However - nailing the physics is only half the battle when it comes to 2D Sonic. The other half is level design that complements those physics. Will Sonic Team/Arzest actually stick the landing on this? Or will it be less Sonic Superstars and more Sonic Supersharts? Tune in this fall to find out - same hedgehog time, same hedgehog channel.

Japs are weird about modern 2D Sanics. They seem convinced that every game must be like the 1st game with the instant death falls and bullshit. Even Sanic CD didn't have that shit so you'd think they'd learn from the most successful games in the series but it might just be obstinate "Fuck you, we know better." Jap game design logic.

There must be some ancient salary men still running shit over there that just refuse to concede.

Huh? I don't remember the 1st game having that except for shit like Scrap Brain Act 1 with the spinning conveyor belts above a death pit.

What bullshit specifically was in Sonic 1 that made it bad? Only complaint i know that's common about that game is that Sonic doesn't go fast enough, hence Sonic 2 being the second coming of jesus christ to everyone

There's quite a few instant death falls and traps in Sanic 1. It's easily the hardest of the Genesis games. It really likes to punish you for going fast whereas the rest of the games -worst case scenario- you just get hit and lose your rings with momentum-killing spots being few and far between but rewarding memorization of the level.

Sonic Mania:
- 12 Zones
- $20

Sonic Superstars:
- 8 Zones
- $60

Looks like SEGA saw the sales numbers on Mania and thought: Why not 3 times the price for 2/3rds the content? :sonichu:

It looks good, but I'm definitely not paying $60 lmao.
