At this point I think it's pretty clear: they have to bring insomeone with new ideas and let him/them set a solid foundation for the next games.
Kinda like what microsoft did with killer instinct. They realized they didnt have the competence to make a fighting game, so they asked a bunch of 3rd party teams to make a pitch for a new game. Except in this case, make it open to everybody, fans included, because as showed by sonic mania and other fan projects, the sonic community is oozing with talent. Also if and once youve find the right people, dont let them slip away and get either hired or bought by someone else, like microsoft did instead.

And another important thing: kill modern sonic for good and make classic sonic the defacto standard again. the whole concept of modern sonic is stupid. You dont see nintendo making distinctions between old and new mario.
Also The older I get, the less I cant stand that fucking idiot "kum on step it up, youre too slow!"
Fuck off. Sonic is at its best when he is a silent little guy, that gets shit done and fights against all odds and versus things that are bigger and more powerful than him. He can speak, but keep it under control.

They should stop making classic games and modernize the formula.

Stop making classic games? They made 1 classic game after a 23 years hiatus.
You can have both, no reason to stop, especially because 2d classic sonic is cheap as fuck to make and still sells well.

They should stop making shitty games and just let the Mania team have Sonic to be honest

Seconding THIS:
They should stop making shitty games and just let the Mania team have Sonic to be honest

Letting the Mania team be in charge of all Sonic games from now on, as well as them learning how to apply what worked in Mania to a 3D format someday... Sounds better than what Sonic Team is doing (e.g.: wasting the time of fans AND casual gamers who want something simple, yet above average, to play.).

Polygon also made a review on Forces. 5/10 https://www.polygon.com/2017/11/5/16609838/sonic-forces-review
In general the game is being described as mediocre.

If there's anything good about this is that the salt thread will be glorious.

I find it funny though: most people were looking forward to Forces due to it being like Generations 2 and not so much to Mania because they felt it was gonna be more like a nostalgia cash grab...and now the opposite is happening. Mania is so far, considered vastly superior despite less hype going towards that game.

Last time I remember something like this happening was REmake vs RE0, and even then, RE0 was considered good, just nowhere near as good as REmake.

The salt from the sonic spergs is gonna be glorious, when the metacritic will barely reach 60-5.
I like sonic a lot(the good games at least), but for things to change, this game must flop hard, so that hopefully sega will look at the reception mania got and learn a good lesson.

True. However, as I said earlier, that is if (and only if) they do learn something from Mania and let the people behind that make Sonic games from now on. They seem to have an actual grasp on what the franchise needs to truly stay relevant and not be slandered by more mediocre/crappy games, obviously.

I was going to post an entire wall of text explaining why it sucks, but i’ll just let this image do the talking

Turns out the character creation is bland and limited even by Xenoverse standards.

It's a shame really, the one thing I was looking forward to as far as this game is concerned was creating some hilariously misshapen creature to laugh at. I was looking forward to saving the day with my rainbow-furred crocodile with rabbit ears that has Big's torso, Rouge's boobs, Boom Kuckles' guns and classic Sonic's tiny legs. Maybe next time...

I watched the leaked gameplay and all the cutscenes. It's basically a self-insert edge fest with a half baked plot about a rebellion or something. The talk of friendship made me dry heave.

Chris-Chan would love this game.

The problem is they've made good games with the boost formula before. They just need to stop playing with their dicks and have a solid team working on these big flagship titles.

Unless the game is actually good and Polygon are talking out of their ass, as usual. The story's at least a good laugh.

Sonic Forces was supposed to be the game that would revitalize the modern franchise. The boost formula makes games glorified roller coaster experiences, and Force's over reliance of the mechanic is a testament to how little the team innovated the game. It just makes everything stale

If we're talking about story, it would be a laugh if it was paced better. Even better, it would be a laugh if they actually did anything with the setting of a rebellion. Any storytelling is shoehorned in for a self insert fan-fiction.

Let's be real, making Sonic play in 3-D is always going have problems. You either streamline the experience to to recapture the speed or create an unplayable mess by giving full control of Sonic

The thing with roller coasters is they can be fun, if people are right this one isn't.

I think you miss the point of what I'm saying. Part of what makes the "good" boost Sonic games boring is how little the game interacts with the player. It boils down to just pressing the B button and holding left and right. Any replayability goes into doing the same level again and again to collect a couple shiny things. You have more interactivity with Space Mountain.

What makes those boost games "good" are tempered with visuals and varied stage design for the most part. Forces doesn't have this though.

Well to each his own, I think Sonic is mostly spectacle anyway. I will agree, the visual variety is shit from what I've seen.

OK. Yeah..... I think the most important things to remember is that if you have to rely on shite fanfiction-level writing and lousily-implemented gimmicks to drive things forward... You'll be lucky if your game is good enough to be considered just below average. FACT.

Hey! I liked Mario Sunshine.

Hey! I liked Mario Sunshine.

I wasn't dissing on Mario - although those games have not always been known to have been great bastions of literature, either. What I'm getting at mostly relates to Sonic, where the problem with good writing is much worse, especially if compared to Mario games, honestly.

At least Mario's stories - while simple in nature, don't go overboard with being edgy, and can sometimes even be hilarious as hell, while balancing some serious material when called for it, of course. Something you don't see done well enough in Sonic's games anymore, if at all, honestly.
