I wasn't dissing on Mario - although those games have not always been known to have heen bastions of literature, either. What I'm getting at mostly relates to Sonic, where the problem with good writing is much worse, especially if compared to Mario games, honestly.

At least Mario's stories - while simple in nature, don't go ocerboard with being edgy and can be hilarious as hell, while balancing some serious material when called for it, of course. Something you don't see done well enough in Sonic's games anymore, if at all, honestly.
You are right, Sonic games shouldn't try to tell stories with large scope. I don't find the Mario games funny at all, Sonic can be, but when he's trying to make an end of the world edgepocalypse plot it's the worst pile of cancer ever. They should really stop and go back to comedy, get the meme writers from Boom if they have to.

You can do worldthreatning stuff, but keep out the edgyness.
Sonic adv1 and unleashed did it right. The tone was more like an epic adventure, rather than dark and full of emo.

Also when do the reviews drop? Metacritic still has nothing on it.

Sonic Forces was supposed to be the game that would revitalize the modern franchise. The boost formula makes games glorified roller coaster experiences, and Force's over reliance of the mechanic is a testament to how little the team innovated the game. It just makes everything stale

If we're talking about story, it would be a laugh if it was paced better. Even better, it would be a laugh if they actually did anything with the setting of a rebellion. Any storytelling is shoehorned in for a self insert fan-fiction.

Let's be real, making Sonic play in 3-D is always going have problems. You either streamline the experience to to recapture the speed or create an unplayable mess by giving full control of Sonic

Nah, it's just that nobody with the right ideas has been given the chance.
Sonic team cant even replicate the genesis games, so how can you expect them to get the 3d stuff right?

So how long'll it be before someone on here makes Sonichu?
Someone on /v/ did try to make Sonichu, though I wouldn't say it looks good.

0/10 - Not Mary-Sueish enough. Would not make even fun of, due to already being far too bland.

I'd have gone with the Dog or Wolf myself for the longer ear options

Either way, give it maybe two or three weeks. The modding community on PC'll come up with a good Sonichu eventually

EDIT: Mismatched eyes are a thing, so if nothing else someone can make Chris-Chan's Sonichu form

EDIT 2 RETURN OF JAFAR: Try using this for Sonichu, looks a lot less plain and has back stripes

I'll be getting it. If it sucks, I'll let you know. I've heard conflicting opinions outside of review sites, so typical Sonic fare in that respect. Between this and the new Hitman update, that's been two critical disappointments in the month so far.

The new Hitman update was disappointing? How come?

Not only is the game mediocre as fuck, the PC port seems to be an absolute mess.

People are saying that it crashes after the second or third level, and that even on top-tier graphics cards it runs like shit.

It's hard to gage either of this right now, but from what I've read there's been very mixed reactions from the reddit boards and HMForum. This is going very off-topic but people are split on the lighting changes making certain locations like Sapienza "too saturated", people don't like the UI changes from red and black to bright white with little contrast and the new missions are largely barebones with no options for user created content within them. Case in point, one of the missions in the bonus campaign has you staying in one place and sniping people, which doesn't line up with the whole point of Hitman being exploring large sandboxes to kill your targets. Then there's the price point, which people don't like but are honestly going to have to deal with since the devs recently severed ties with their publisher to go independent. All in all, it's :autism: all round.

I can confirm this

It's true that the crashing glitch has been fixed, but the other problems still persist. Like literally a week ago I got a MONSTER of a new system, so my new PC is like brand new. I can run even the most demanding games at their highest settings with hardly a hiccup, yet Forces runs like absolute dogshit on it. The framerate dips a lot, and the cutscenes are a choppy, stuttering mess.

I refunded it on Steam and got it for PS4 instead. Ps4 runs it smooth as butter. It's bizarre as hell that the PC version is so BROKEN

Too bad I bought mine in a website and can't get a refund. Meanwhile, I can't wait for mods to come up.

So having played it on PS4, in my personal opinion it's not nearly as bad as everyone says it is. If there's one thing I DO have a huge beef with, is that Classic Sonic's stages are unfortunately the worst, mostly because unlike Generations, Classic feels so stiff in this game. In an attempt to nerf how OP his spindash was in Gen, they accidentally made it too weak, and he loses momentum way too easily.

But overall, I give the game a 6/10, 7 if I'm feeling generous, I like everything else about it

They never seem to do what the fans want, or if they do (edgy oc) they do it half assed. It really is amazing that they can't figure out how to make something that's not shit.

I feel like it's because in a small way, not even the fans know what they want

Sonic's sort of stuck divided into three eras. The Classic Era that really needs no explanation (1 through & Knuckles) The 'Adventure' Era revolving more around multi-path stages and a semi-serious story that continues from game to game (Adventure through '06) and the 'Boost' Era revolving more on the speed of Sonic but with more linear stages (Unleashed to Forces).

Each era has it's defenders and each one is screaming about how that one is the best version of Sonic at Sega and Sega doesn't know who to appeal to without pissing off the rest of the fandom. You got three sect of fans yanking you from all directions; appealing to one makes the others mad, and appealing to all of them at once RARELY works. Generations got lucky, Forces tried to do it again but as we can see it came up short

Sega is trapped in a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' position and it's unfortunate

Fuck stage 28 in particular with it's exploding missile boxes and auto scrolling precision platform section while using Classic Sonic.

lol well pretty much everyone loved Mania. It got the best Metacritic score for a Sonic game in like a decade. Maybe make more games like that?
