I still think lowtax should have sold it to some Chinese malware company for some bitcoin and a bag of fentanyl laced heroin

Out of curiosity, I looked up the Lowtax vs Boll fight. Both guys really suck at boxing. Boll is really bad considering the training he has, and Lowtax is somehow even worse

By 2020 standards, I'd imagine you could run SA off of a cheap workstation attached to a business line. The site doesn't even serve video, mostly just text, as most of the images are hosted elsewhere. And troons are still unquestioningly paying $5 every time they want to change their avatars. Like every single thing that would have given the site significant overhead cost has come down dramatically in price. If it was profitable in 2002, it's bound to be a money printer today, even considering how few newcomers are arriving.
Hell, I'm sure the modern residential fiber line has way more than enough bandwidth to run SA, the only reason you'd need a business line is so that your ISP doesn't kick your ass for violating their EULA.
proposal: a thread about animal husbandry in the pet forum
reality: a moderator unrepentantly killed animals with ac/dc hadoukens and probated people who asked questions
You're correct, Katrina took down the forums at that time.Even back in the day when it had hundreds of thousands of active users it was piss-cheap to run, it was just half a cab of gear in some bargain basement colo in Louisiana if I recall correctly.
Of course he has had other income over the years. I mean, that's not exactly a secret - or is it?
Good lord. So you could run SA from an old Android phone attached to an external hard drive now.Even back in the day when it had hundreds of thousands of active users it was piss-cheap to run, it was just half a cab of gear in some bargain basement colo in Louisiana if I recall correctly.
His parents are very affluent. If he has a trust fund I wouldn't be shockedI'm curious about this.
Lowtax has always had some new wacky money making idea whether it was promoting Mangosteen, NordVPN, Murder the Internet Podcast, Gaming Garbage Livestreaming, or Goldbelly, but I was always under the impression that the forums was his main source of income.
His Patreon didn't start really pulling in money until mid-March 2019. That was when he posted his sob story about his back and medical bills in GBS.

What else does he have for sources of income?
What was the story behind this one again?

Derek, it's all semantics at this point. Let's just leave it at that. All we're saying here is that the forums paid for themselves many, many, many times over and at their height of popularity were worth likely well into the 7 figures if Owetax was willing to cash out. Instead, he squandered every single opportunity that fell into his lap and had the potential to make him quite wealthy and set for life if he had done even an iota of planning or long term investment. He screwed his content contributors, actively avoided his own community, avoided anything even resembling work, and instead fucked off to eat 400$ bagged pies and beat women. This is why he is a lolcow deserving his own thread separate from the SA thread proper.
Don't know about "insanely" profitable, though it definitely was for many years, but even now it's profitable.
Something Awful’s business model is to accept electronic payments for automated electronic services administered by unpaid remotely-working volunteer staff. While you’re correct that profit in terms of volume probably isn’t crazy, profit as a percentage of total revenue is likely another matter, since there are practically no expenses to operate the site other than hosting and shit. That does give a bump to a site’s perceived value when an interested investor starts thinking, “What happens if I just scale up operations fifteenfold somehow...”Agreed. And as you've eloquently pointed out, it's a double-edged sword depending on how you look at it. My key takeaway is that for the site to have been "insanely profitable", you'd think he'd have a lot to show for it. But as you pointed out, he doesn't because, well, he appears to be blowing money on bs and not much else.
He treated Ashli like she was little more than a housepet that he could shove his dick into. In the event that she ever stepped out of line, Canada was the pound.I still think it's funny as shit that Owetax bitched endlessly about Ashliii "wasting money and spending frivolously" on shit like diapers and furniture or whatever while this business genius here is spending 5,000$/mo on cookies and pies that cost 200$ each.
