I mean, it's what you'd expect. As soon as it became clear the killer really was an Aiden, the conversation mysteriously petered out or shifted to other topics. Mods didn't tell them to drop it or anything, everyone on SA just knows the score.

By the way, here's an unrelated thought I had: does anyone remember Troon Patient Zero?
The entire word "Troon," arguably SA's last contribution to popular/meme culture, is "trans goon" and is what they called themselves when they started coming out of the woodwork and conglomerating together. And their origin was the Ask/Tell Troon thread, where you could first ask trans goons questions but it later became a place where they congregated and compared notes about being trannys. There were many iterations, but I recall reading the first such thread. It was one of a hundred A/T threads with interesting people answering questions about their lifestyles, jobs, or whatever.
One guy started it, but eventually other trannys jumped in with their perspectives. But who was that original OP? I think it's notable trivia because that was the beginning of the end of SA, of Lowtax, and one of the tiny things that contributed to the permutation of trans into mainstream culture.

But the ask tell sub was proto for it they had a kink thread. Think ether sass, TNE, or maybe something sensitive had the screen shots showing version one where they used the words transvestite correctly about how men like wearing women's clothing.
I know it's not a popular take but I d like to think Troon zero was more closer to mentally I ll in more medical sense.

TBF Psyopmonkey wasn't an asshole about being a tranny and could take a joke. Used to hang out in the GBS IRC channel a long time ago.
But yeah, they were definitely patient zero and kinda glow in the dark in retrospect.

He can't be patient zero if he only registered in late 2008. The first major troon thread (that I could find) was created in Ask/Tell in April 2007.
This first thread reached 31 pages. The next one, in August 2007, reached 56. By 2010, the ball was really rolling and "Transgender megathread VII", with detailed instructions on how to troon out, reached 570 pages.

So back when I was in uni in 2003 there was one Troon. Basically a effeminate Mexican. To its credit this is pre trans trender and it described what would now be called gatekeeping having to live as the gender for a few years before therapy etc

They haven't posted in a decade. If they were still around, they'd probably be banned for transphobia, since they seemed to have a somewhat realist view of transgenderism, rather than being the "dress go spinny, woo, everyone's heckin valid" types.
Reading those threads made me a bit sad. There was a time when people could make crude jokes about the topic, or be critical, or offer sincere support, and they could all coexist, no one was crying about genocide or demanding permabans. I hate current year.

SA isn't much of a containment zone. What's a few thousand users in todays internet? if it died and these people moved elsewhere, it'd be like a silent fart. It'd smell funny for a moment but ultimately nobody would notice. And while it might've not been true back in the day, I'm sure now most goons are active elsewhere anyways. Also remember that SA doesn't really get new blood so most of them are middle-aged and older fucks.
Looking at SA is always depressing because it was the last phase of the good internet before things completely went to shit. Also the word troon might've come from there but that phenomenon was bigger and not limited to SA. I'm afraid it's a bit more complex than that.

It's a few thousand of the absolute worst posters to ever live. It's great containment for that specific reason.
Anyone from SA that could be salvaged left and was salvaged by another community long ago.
