The fact people are still dumb enough to post wrongthink on SA in CY+3 is almost as surprising as the fact there are still posters thinking wrong thoughts who haven't been banned after years of purges.

Did someone really get banned for saying that W was worse than Trump? Because I think that Trump is fucking dreadful but he didn't start any illegal wars like W did.

It's ironic though, Trump is impeachable over the war in Yemen, but going after him over it would mean going after Obama for starting it.

I miss RaptorFag. At one point the Australian Politics Megathread got linked in an article by some big news site, so he immediately registered an account and flooded the thread in drawings of cartoon ponies with gigantic prolapsed anuses.

It was kind of impressive how many of those pictures existed.

They will never purge enough to make them happy. I'd wager each user has a mental list of who they think is still a problem, and unless every single one of those posters is removed they won't be happy. And of course because each user's list is different, they can't be happy collectively, because one person's wrongthinker is another's brave and honest poster. Add in mods who undoubtedly have their own target lists, and there's no calm because no-one can be happy.

Also, they have that paranoid hugbox mentality where there's always another villain to fight, always another alt-right poster disguising their true nature just waiting to be exposed and expunged. They can only exist in opposition to a Powerful Evil, and so even if you were to get rid of any poster they deemed problematic, it would be at best a week before they started seeing signs of evil in previously acceptable posters. So the site has to exist in a state of 'this is a really good place, and also at the same time constantly attacked by transphobes/homophobes/MAGA assholes/bad faith posters who make this site a cesspit and are ruining it.'

The tl;dr: users in such forums have to feel victimised and like a voice of purity and good in a benighted forum, so they will never, ever be happy. If there's no evil to fight, they find it in their allies, because they only matter if they live in opposition to something. You see the same thing in other SJW hugbox forums, like ResetEra and MetaFilter.

The action itself is what they want. The action of calling out a bad person and demanding retribution, and the gratification of getting something out of their demands. The target isn't really important. They don't want a forum free of magachuds and nazis, they want to log onto the forum every day and participate in an outcry against magachuds and nazis. They will create their new targets as they need them.

I remember that thread. Every 30 pages or so someone would point out that the Left fit her definition of the ”authoritarian narrative” perfectly and the whole thread would suffer a spastic seizure of collective denial lasting multiple pages.

It's actually a very interesting theory but the ironically it's the refusal of the thread's participants to partake in any self-reflection whatsoever despite being repeatedly promoted to do so that really gives the most fascinating insight into the thought processes of authoritarians.
