Parabens have been used for over 100 years, and is even in small amount NATURALLY in some foods.

Hmmmm…. There are multiple studies that have good methodology that show that the p-hydroxybenzoate esters all have oestrogenoc activity in vivo as well as in vitro. They get broken down well if ingested or injected but if you put them on skin they do have oestrogenic effects. They also stimulate MCF-7 cells. I avoid them in all products and I don’t think they’re something we should be using.

You do you, but you have to understand that lab results doesn't necessarily translate in practice. Humans aren't an animal or a petri dish.
Allergy for parabens exist, but it's rare.

Hello
I just wanted to say that I'm extremely happy with the results of exfoliating after 1.5 months... Just a few red and brown spots left. I believe by the end of this month these few spots will be cleared too..

So my question is should I continue exfoliating after all spots are clear? Or should I stop?

I also want to incorporate retinol in my routine. Can I use both retinol and aha together ?

I also bought a hydroquinone cream for a sun spot. Should I stop everything, begin a hydroquinone cycle for maybe a month and then continue my previous routine + retinol? Maybe all 3 ingredients can be incorporated at the same time?
What do you think?
Sorry for my English I can't concentrate now.

Thanks

If the concentration of the retinol is low it's probably no issue, but common wisdom is lay off the retinol a few days after AHA use. Be extra super duper careful to apply sunscreen in either case, since both chemical peeling and retinol is bad in combination with sunlight, meaning they'd probably be even worse together.

This is more based on how used your skin is to both. I see no issue with using an AHA and tretinoin. While sure you can't exactly do that straight away, it's certainly an option and your skin will not die from it. Like people like to fearmonger about.

It's a myth that retinol make your skin more photosensitised, it's more of a "rule" because the point of using a retinol is defeated. If you’re baking in the sun without SPF.
AHA's does make the skin more photosensitised tho.

But keep on exfoliating, but maybe not at aggressive. Since the problems are away.

I have been using The Ordinary niacinamide and zinc for my chronic and noticeable pimples (the zitty T-zone acne, not pink lumpy cheeks) and it's reduced my zits by about 80-85%, and I only use it every few days instead of twice a day. Can recommend. It's also cruelty free and cheap.
Vouch. This stuff has proven to be insanely effective for me as well.

I recently got the 10% Lactic Acid serum from The Ordinary (this morning actually). It was recommended to help with acne scarring (stupid me picking my face) and it doesn’t seem bad so far. A little burning sensation but it went away quick. I also bought a detox mask from Caudalie but I am waiting until tonight to try it. I want to reduce sebum just so I don’t get the urge to pick.

Just ordered this body wash, as I'm interested in getting retinol on my body. In a not overly expensive way.
It got good reviews and I saw Labmuffin recommended it in the comments section of some youtube short. Dunno the % of retinol in it tho.

It takes a while to get here, as I had to buy it from Murica. Because they don't have any of the good shit in my country.
So if any have tried it, please tell?

Can I just use a retinol cream on my forehead and eyes where I started having some fine wrinkles or I have to put it all over my face?

Small question for my fellow kiwis:
I have sensitive, acne prone skin. The sort that can get red and irritated from salicylic acid cleansers. Would AHA gels be a bit too risky? I'd like to fade some pock marks, but also not look like I have lupus.

Then I guess the best approach would be to alternate every day between exfoliating and retinol?

Like on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays exfoliating and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays using retinol. And maybe leave Sundays for a mask or something?

What do you think?

Just gonna say this whole thread reads like gymbros talking about their supplement routines and it's really funny

Are you sure you aren't allergic to salicylic acid? Because cleansers are not supposed to be irritating, Looking like you got lupus afterwards sounds very abnormal

A lot of things can cause it, not just salicylic acid, and most of the time it's 30 minutes to a few hours of looking a bit like tumblr nose before the redness fades. I used to be able to get away with just splashing water on my face and only using facial cleanser a couple times a week.. but I got old.

I haven't watched labmuffin's video yet so maybe there's an explanation, but I'm a bit skeptical about how effective retinol might be in a body wash form, since you just wash it right off. Probably better than nothing though since most retinol body products are stupid expensive to use regularly. Curious to hear what you think of it when you get it.

Personally, I use a retinol body moisturizer by advanced clinicals that you can buy online at Walmart in the US. It's about $15 for a 16oz tub which is not bad at all.

I'd personally consider alternating 2 days retinol : 1 day exfoliation. It's not necessary to exfoliate too often, and retinol benefits from using as consistently as possible.

In my own routine, I go 6 days of retinoid (tretinoin, basically stronger retinol) to one day of a strong exfoliating peel (Paula's choice 25% AHA + 2% BHA) so I can consolidate my weekly exfoliation into one day while keeping my retinoid use as regular as I can.

Ok this is my progress after 2 months of having a serious skincare routine.
Well I've been using a AHA cream 10%, twice a fay, every day and the results are fantastic. My face glows, it's skin tone is more even and all the red spots I had from acne scars are gone. Now, underneath some of these red spots, some small freckles-like brown spots appeared. They are very small and you have to be looking hard in the mirror to spot them. To combat this I've started using a hydroquinone cream 2% every night, a few hours before going to sleep. I'm still exfoliating at the same time. I'm not planning of using hydroquinone more than 1 or 2 months tops. I'm sure after 1 or 2 months these freckles-like brown spots will be gone either from the exfoliation or from the hydroquinone cream. I also have a very small hyperpigmented area under my eye that has finally started to fade. Overall, I'm very happy with the results. I don't use any filters on my photos, I just don't need too anymore! I also ordered a retinol serum from The Ordinary. I've heard very good things about this brand and its dirt cheap. I plan on adding it in my routine after I finish my hydroquinone cycle.
Well I never really look at the brand, just the ingredients. For example my aha cream is locally made by some literary who's, but it's awesome, it works and it's also dirt cheap. Over the years I bought very expensive creams but none worked as good as this one. I will report in one month again with my progress. My only recommendation for all of you would be to just look for the ingredients that work. These would be AHAs, BHAs, niacinamide, hydroquinone and retinol... any recommendations from you? Thanks.

Whew. I normally do a fairly intensive acid face peel every month /2 months. I use the same stuff every time and haven't used anything different on my face for day to day stuff. I leave it on for 7-10 minutes ,basically as long as I can stand the prickling feeling.

I did one last night and fam, I am a tomato, call me ms tomato going forward. I feel like I have an intense sunburn, the kind you get when you fall asleep on a black innertube on the water all day.

Thank goodness for goat milk lotions, it's helped with sucking the heat and red and pain out. The peel is going to be deep this time. I don't know what changed in my body because it usually isn't anything like this but once the red and heat goes away completely I will be fine (and hopefully fabulous!)
