Skincare - let's sperg about routines and products

Can anyone translate this Korean? Some of the best ointment for getting rid of issues when nothing else works, I would like to ensure I'm not setting myself up for ultra-cancer. Seriously it works when some of my other heavy hitters didn't touch stuff.

She called it "combition" which is some kind of ointment but not this kind apparently? Also here's several recommendations from me:

Turns out this also kills a lot of the nasties that cause acne. Use it as a bodywash for a bit and it will clear shit right up. Strong chemical smell, might make sensitive skin tingle. Definitely not an everyday thing. It's got an antifungal, so keep that in mind if you notice it works better than antibiotics but does not clear you up entirely.

This shit used to be the best antibiotic you could get as an ointment (thx China/India). Apparently you can acquire it OTC now. If you end up needing this for several days you can see where it is eating/killing its way through layers of skin.

Looks like used chewing tobacco and smells like death. Leave a pea-sized bit over whatever it is and cover it in a band-aid. It's amazing what it can pull out in a short time. Think more like splinters and not pimples.

So from what I gather you want the Ichthammol-containing "drawing out" or "black" salve. I think this one has homeopathic on there to cater to a different crowd but I'm unsure. There's some bullshit with similar stuff and woojoo bullshit. This is for like getting a tough splinter out without digging with a needle. Works great. It won't remove unspecified toxins from your body or give you magic powers.

Holy shit I have gone a month without COSRX whitehead power liquid in my skincare regimin and my face looks ragged. It's so expensive but fuck it works so well at cleaning my face up. Reduces dark spots, quickly eliminates acne, dare I say it helps skin glow. Walmart luckily has it for $13 at the moment while every other place is $22. I hate it when stuff you find doesnt work, but I hate it more when you find something that works well and then you have to keep buying it. I'm just a poorfag...
 
I'm on week 10 of 0.005% tretnoin + 2% azelaic acid and I think I might be starting to see a positive difference. I've tried tretnoin in the past, but I have extraordinarily sensitive skin and I think the concentrations I've used previously have been too much. I always wound up breaking out from irritation.

My skin seems to do better when I just leave it alone. I stopped using facial cleanser in the morning; instead, I just rinse with warm water and follow up with moisturizer and sunscreen. In the evening, I wash with a gentle cleanser in the shower. Right now, I'm using La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser. I wasn't sure initially if I liked it, but I think I'll end up repurchasing. I have a bottle of Vanicream Gentle Cleanser that I really like, as well.

I'm still on the hunt for a good heavy night cream. I've almost finished a tub of Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask, which is nice.

I ordered some stuff from Glossier as a treat and I'm pretty excited to give it a try. It should arrive early this week. I got the After Baume, Moon Mask, and Super Bounce serum. I also can't resist "birthday cake" flavored lip balms, so I tossed a tube of Balm Dotcom into my cart even though the Internet is seething over the recent reformulation.

Have you tried a regular glycolic acid toner that isn't le "superior" Korean brand?
There's an option of importing it directly from Korea too, as of course Western retailers are going to slap on a higher price for anything "exotic".

Anyway, I kind of knew this already. But it's more in depth.
 
Does anyone have experience with tazarotene? I'm currently on 0.1% topical tretinoin and have been for a couple years. I've built up a tolerance to it, but I still find that I have to take a break 1-2 days a week due to my skin getting irritated in particular spots. I've heard that tazarotene is stronger than tret, so I was considering switching my prescription down to 0.05% tazarotene to hopefully find a strong retinoid that my skin can still handle without problems nightly.

No, but the difference between 0.05% and 0.1% tretinoin is marginal at best. While 0.1% do work a TINY bit faster, when you first start on it. If you’re on tretinoin for your whole life, the difference. As in effect, the fact it's more expensive than 0.05% and it's more irritating. Is really not worth it.

Higher % does not equal more effective necessary. Benzoyl peroxide is effective at 2.5% and higher is not more effective and just increases irritation. Niacinamide is best at 5% too.

Edit: Adding in this video, it's about anti-aging. Even though he and the others in the comment ridicule it. While he doesn't look like a teen, he does look pretty damn good for his age. He just needs to get a good hairstyle and put on some weight. As well, skinny old people looks older. No need to be obese, just go full bear mode. And don't be a vegan.

I got botox for the second time today. This time I'm trying a lip flip in addition to my forehead. I really hope it works out, since it seems like a pretty safe and low-effort way to have nicer lips.

While I was there, the aesthetician (?) commented my skin looked really good, that I was "obviously using suncare" and to "keep doing whatever you're doing," which was really nice to hear!

How long did you go between botox injections? I hear people say 3-4 months typically, but I've also heard 6 if you're just doing it to prevent static wrinkle formation. I've done botox twice before but I'm going to start doing it regularly, now that I have the finances to do so. But I'm just doing it for wrinkle prevention, I don't care for the "frozen" look, so I wanna space it out as much as I can while still being effective.

The first time I got it for my forehead, it was effective for a long time actually - over 6 months, maybe a year, which it isn't supposed to. That was because it trained me to not make those certain facial expressions for awhile and I was able to keep it up after the botox should have lost efficacy. You can do something similar to help space it out! One reason American women get forehead wrinkles that say, Japanese women don't for example is because we have very expressive faces with a lot of eyebrow raising.

I found something amusing that I want to share: I was browsing my usual source for skincare products and found some products that totally looked like… cheap knockoffs of the ordinary´s products??

I mean, the ordinary isn´t dirt cheap, but still. I found it amusing enough to look into the brand, and it just got funnier. It´s called Revox B77 and all their products are like an exercise in recognizing the product it´s a knockoff of.

I ordered their retinol toner, which is an obvious dupe attempt of one of my holy grails: Pixi´s retinol tonic. It had a lot of similar ingredients, so I figured it would be fun to try. I received it like a week ago and yea, lol, it´s crap. Pixi´s version leaves me dewy and comfortable for hours, but the dupe is just… Dunno, honestly not sure it does anything? My skin doesn´t dislike it though, so I´m using it up as a pre-toner for now.

But it was fun to look through their website and play recognize-what-this-was-copied-from.

Yea, don't do any retinol from them. They don't even have a 1% retinol

The caffeine, niacinamide, salicylic acid, vitamin C 20% and glycolic acid toner gets a thumbs up from me

They got a ferulic acid + resveratrol serum to mix with the vit C too, but they don't have it on the site I order from, and they don't do the VAT in the online store.

Thank you! I will look into them a little more. It does not look like my usual product source have all that you recommend, but I will take a look. The only toner they had at all was the Pixi knockoff.
My skin is really sensitive and reactive, so it's nice to experiment with the cheaper stuff.
 
Update on the Olay retinol bodywash. I bought the matching set with body conditioners too.

My verdict on them. Both of them smell absolutely horrendous and the smell is IDENTICAL to these fuckers

I will force myself to use it. Because it's pretty moisturising and it's winter here, and because I spent way too much getting it imported. I doubt it would have done anything by the time I'm finished with them. As it takes 6 months to see anything.

I need to go to the dermatologist to get a new prescription for tretinoin. Because she refused to give it to me when I went on isotretinoin. Thanks, for wasting my time AND money. But I'm gonna ask if there is any body retinol in my country.
 
So I have a dumb skincare question. I use The Ordinary retinol in squalane, and on the packaging, it says to refrigerate after opening. This is inconvenient just because my refrigerator is not near my bathroom and results in me skipping retinol fairly often because it's out of sight out of mind.

Does anyone know if it's that important to refrigerate this retinol? Does it just lose potency if you don't, or is it decomposing in to some chemical I don't want on my face? How quickly does it break down without refrigeration?
