I feel it's the opposite. You're not wrong about Shane being ignorant, but he made a ton of money off that collab. Still making money (the collection was recently restocked and sold out quickly AFAIK). In terms of Shane's station in life, Does it really matter if he doesn't know what he's doing with makeup? Because honestly some of the biggest influencers are mediocre or even kinda bad at makeup and are total dingbats. They do okay.

If anything, getting into makeup might be what saves Shane in the end, especially because there's so much crossover with Shane's fan base and that of Jeffree "The Teflon Dong" Star. If Shane never got into makeup who would be "stanning" him now that he's cancel bait?

you are right, the money he's made and will make from the restock is serious dough. Just the overwhelming hate seems to have doubled in the past week. He's going to be just fine in case he wants to ditch yt.
 
I think him being cancelled has been a long time coming, as around 2013/14 on Tumblr a lot of blogs were calling him out for his "racist" sketches and predatory behaviours. The stuff about him joining Tinychat convos seems to be in line with the stuff on those callouts. I don't think he's a paedophile but just had overly friendly interactions with his young fans, thinking he was being amazing by giving them what they want. However, as the adult and the role model in the room, he should have known better than to be so creepy with young girls.

Not got much to add, just what has already been said. I'm not a huge fan of Youtube stars, so most of the info I get is secondhand from here and social media. But I liked Shane Dawson as an emo kid as I thought he was hot (that emo hair!!!) and I was super into anything edgy back then. Two or three years ago, when he got popular again, I was genuinely shocked as I thought he was cancelled years ago from the stuff I saw on Tumblr. The same goes for J* - I was genuinely confused as to how he got a makeup brand seemingly out of the blue, he seemed to disappear when Myspace died then was back on the scene around 2014ish. But as I said, I have a blindspot for Youtubers so that could have just have been me completely out of the loop. My older cousin who used to mock me for sitting watching EDGY Youtubers in 2009-2011 is totally hooked to him and J*.

People all over my social media sites FLOCKED to him, so I tried to give his content a watch and I just found him so annoying. I dunno, I get people who like YouTube and trashy Netflix documentaries watching him because he makes interesting videos but social media (until recently) was filled with people thinking everything he made was absolutely genius and super original.

ALSO - can we talk about his merch for a second? It's all so EXPENSIVE but clearly marketed to young teens. The pig bag looks so tacky yet its $80? It looks like you could buy it at Claires Accessories. I didn't even know until recently he had his own makeup brand but again, I am not surprised.

I think Shane and all youtubers have the same issue when it comes to content. They began, developed a fanbase, and then got stuck in producing the content expected of them even as they grew up and should have grown out of it. Graveyardgirl is a prime example of this. Their 'fanbase' keeps them anchored in this area of non-development because the ones who stick with them are the sort who don't grow up either.

Stuff you can do in your 20's becomes skeevy in your 30's, especially when it comes to interpersonal relationships and friendships/connections with the younger fanbase. Yet if they want to keep riding the cash cow, they have to stay the way they are.

TV shows don't last forever because eventually people get bored of them and the ratings drop. Youtubers unfortunately are marketing 'themselves' and they can't really come up with some new version of themselves on a whim to market as the next new thing. It's the danger of becoming 'famous' for doing what is essentially you documenting your life and hobbies. Paid actors can walk away, do new projects, keep it fresh while living their lives. Youtubers cannot, most of the time.

After I saw the first attempt I didn't trust Shane and immediately assumed he was doing it for the money and attention. It seemed so fake.

funny enough a week ago or so I remember in the Jeffree star thread people were talking about Shane getting a thread too, but everyone was like "nah Shane isn't THAT bad" and well, that really hasn't aged that well, lmao
 
Shane is not demonitized. Jenna's social blade shows $0 too.

The Shane Dawson TV channel had hundreds of videos. It's where the majority of his blackface was posted. He nuked the entire channel, privating every single video, the night of his apology video.

Yesterday he unprivated two of his biggest and least problematic videos. I was just served an ad.

Not only is he not demonitized but he is maximizing his profits because he knows people are searching.

Will and Jada are weird. I remember reading an article where Jada talked about how Jaden wanted to get emancipated at maybe 15 years old and she was like "well, I have to let him live his life, I can't tell him no." LOL, yes you can.

We should have all known how weird they both are. They named both of their children after their own names. Who the fuck does that.
 
It's exhausting because most of this shit about Shane isn't some big hidden secret. They've always been out there and many of these videos were still up, getting views, and probably making him money until he started taking them down this month when people started digging them up for twitter threads and getting out their pitchforks.

Either way, it's all really fucking gross. Especially the pedophilia shit, just because it seems to be something he jokes about quite a lot. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

All of this could have been avoided if he knew the difference between personal humor, and what's socially acceptable to joke about in front of an audience. I'm sure sacrificing his privacy since 2008 made him forget that.
