New Meguri chapter came out, finishing up Satokowashi:

Also new Hoshiwatashi chapter, where Rika is once again completely retarded, and the real villain is so incredibly obvious that he makes Takano look subtle:

Also also, Mei added its first Teppei card, based on Tatariakashi. I find this one to be highly amusing since its the only one where the six star variant still shows the character getting shrewd over instead of actually being saved.

New Oni Chapter.

I can't help but feel like Oryou isn't really the main character.
She'll probably be more relevant later on, since there's obviously something that went down in the village while Souhei was kicked out.

I can't tell what they actually want to achieve with this manga, though, since the pacing is all over the place. What was even the point of that first chapter if the next chapter already jumps to them being adults before we had a chance to get invested into any of them? These are pretty short chapters for a monthly manga, too, and they didn't have much prepared ahead of time.
The Gou manga finished Onidamashi within the first month, clocking in at around 170 pages, Hoshiwatashi's first chapter was 55 pages, and Oniokoshi released two chapters at the beginning for a combined 80 pages. These manga understood that you want to frontload your content in order to get people hooked, but if you only have 62 with two chapters where nothing really happens, people are going to stop caring almost immediately.
It doesn't help that they're trying to market it as some sort of "missing link" to Higurashi without ever explaining what that link is supposed to be. There's nothing about this time period that hasn't been explained yet, at least not in regards to Higurashi's main plot.
We already know that Souhei made a lot of money on the black market after WW2, which Oryou used to rebuild Hinamizawa and establish the Sonozaki as the dominant family, while Hifumi discovered Hinamizawa Syndrome during the war and began to research it. That's all the parts that are important to Higurashi's main story. There's really nothing to do with Oni other than show how Oryou became such a cunt, and that's really not a very compelling premise.

So I started playing Iwaihime. I have a feeling the game wanted to be scary but it just feels like Saw type suffering porn. There is no build up for anything, you can have a normal conversation only to next scene have a girl being literally raped by a massive caterpillar. It destroys tension because you are bombarded with the disturbing imagery rather than slowly get it after getting connected to the characters.

Also really shitty main protagonist. Maybe there will be some revelation about him, but he is basically handsome, super strong, lives without his parents and everybody fawns over him. Remember that Keiichi shot children?

Your experience reminds me of Kara no Shojo. One moment I'm immersed into its world (for reference, it's about a detective solving serial killings), and the next moment I'm slapped with an out of place H-scene.

Anyway, I'm sorry to tell you it doesn't get better. The ending is really weak, which is unsurprising coming from Ryukishi.

Thanks for the warning, I don't know if I'll continue since the game seems to focus on other characters despite already showing the main threat. It feels like it should have had some 3 hour main route to actually establish itself and foreshadow reveals and just had that girl in the background rather than spoil she's the horned demon.

Translation for Meguri is out:
Translation for Oniokoshi is also out (finally):

Apparently Oniokoshi will take its third consecutive two-week break now (with it being released on the 11th), which the next chapter only releasing sometime next month.
It's really starting to sound like there's some massive production issues going on with this manga, and its pacing's gone completely to shit, even more than it was already.

At least Rika warned Mion and Keiichi in Oniokoshi.

Edit: Oh, Satoko set up the fireworks in the morning when she went for her checkup! That makes it less of an asspull.

Nah, she carried those with her in her fanny pack. What she did earlier that day was rig something up in the fuse box to cut out the power at the right time, which gave her the element of surprise. The firecrackers are also a neat reference to Minagoroshi, where she also used them to distract the Yamainu, as due to their training, their first reaction to the noise is to assume they're gunshots, rather than harmless fireworks.

Five months ago, Sotsu was sitting at this:

Trickle-effect shows it currently sits at this:
2022-05-25 22.41.51 myanimelist.net e8c28f3c831c.png

A total of 8,814 new members within the last five months. That's a "holy fuck" from me.

So I want to see how Gou has been faring. I still have numbers from October 7, so gonna look at Higurashi from then:

to now:
2022-05-25 22.45.26 myanimelist.net c16a266d736a.png

This was Gou's number back in October:
2021-10-07 09.16.14 myanimelist.net 5eb58a51dfc0.png

Today, it sits at:
2022-05-25 22.48.37 myanimelist.net ed6b69905f65.png

An average of about 3,500 members a month to Higurashi's 5,300 a month.

Shitsugou will never get the numbers the original 2006 gets. If it was Ryukishi's intent to get people to be more interested in the original series, then he succeeded, but at the cost of Passione fucking up the sequel so hard the manga has had to rectify and disassociate itself from that embarrassment.

And we may still never get a new Umineko anime thanks to that trashfire, unless a new studio and director gets chosen over Passione and Keiichirou Kawaguchi. Though I think at this point, it's best to let sleeping dogs lie.

The DEEN anime didn't deserve a 7.9 either.
Frankly, I'm not sure why anyone would want another 07th Expansion anime because a major part of the problem has always been Ryukishi's near complete unwillingness to actually do any real amount of supervision of the adaptations of his works. He just dumps (half) a script on them and lets the showrunners do whatever. Since he makes no effort to ensure that the people in charge of the writing actually understand the main themes of his works, the end results end up being really hit or miss depending on who's in charge, with the manga usually working out well enough, but every anime seemingly being laser-focused on cutting out or otherwise mangling the most critical scenes in the original script, leaving a completely clueless product as the end result.

The ultimate blackpill is accepting that if they ever were to make another Umineko figure, it'd be a super fanservicey figure of Maria at the beach or some shit like that. Also its a crime that there is only one figure of Takano.

But yeah it really is a shame that the Umineko anime was dogshit and nips hated the ending, I would've killed for like a Battler crying figure or some shit. Shit would've been crazy.
As if it was just Japan who hated the ending. He fucked it up, both the mystery with gaping holes and the meta where the moral is just ignoring inconvenient truths, making much of the story pointless.Everything after episode 6 was a mistake.
Jessica would notice her best friend is also the only boy on the island who she has a huge crush on. This was never resolved.

I also have zero faith in his ability as a writer after he decided to turn a friendship in Higurashi into some lesbian bullshit, even though both characters are like 8 years old. People can't even be friends anymore, the only people I saw praising it were lesbians.

I can buy the whole Shannon/Kanon thing (well, not really but it's not THAT bad), but nobody questions how Jessica didn't know that her grandfather has been dead for a whole year? I don't care how much of a hermit/occult weirdo he is or how huge the mansion is, even if she never had any physical contact with him at all, she'd have to notice changes in her parent's behavior.

Funnily enough the "lesbian BS" is so lame because it's mostly a one sided thing, to the point it feels like a fanfiction given form due to how bad it is. Satoko becomes obsessed with Rika because her friendship is one of the few good things she has in her life, meanwhile Rika doesn't give two shits about her (she does care about Satoko, but she's far more interested in St. Lucia itself).
