My favorite part of the episode was the very end, where after the original story emphasized how only the strength of the bonds of the main cast could break fate, Rika and Satoko tell each other it's best they're apart while Dear You plays in the background and the rest of the cast are standing around being useless like they have been the entire time, except Shion who doesn't exist. Then we get a terrible title drop.

Well for one thing, we don't even get the pleasure of having the safety of the OP. The OP doesn't really do much for me, but it at least helps to lessen the pain because it means less time having to see shit. Also keeps reaffirming my belief that if the OP and/or ED keeps being cut for credits on the regular, it's a sign of shit pacing. There's a reason typically only the last episode will have no OP or whatnot, but there's still anime that had an OP at the very end—like the original Higurashi.

So Shion DOES exist to have a proper role in Higurashi? So why was she shafted so hard in Gou/Sotsu?

Yoooo she was sent so far away and slid so much that her face shouldn't be a face anymore, and she should be much further away than that. My sense of perspective sucks, too, but even I can tell she went flying.

This has got to be one of the biggest "missed the point of the original" that I've ever seen. We go from a story about a series of whodunits to "the loli was the mastermind, also she has DBZ powers", and the final resolution was Satako coming to the GENIUS conclusion that - guess what - just don't go to that fucking school.

What a trainwreck. I don't even know why the third season was greenlit. The story is clearly over and the fanbase is livid.

And all those red herrings, all those time when the rest of the cast mentioned "Not wanting to live in this world" or something to that regard? Absolutely meaningless and never brought up again, they never actually remember the other fragments.

Also someone explain the logic of fighting in a kids body, to being grownup, to reuniting with the gang looking like this is the fragment where everything finally "settles" and gets resolved, to suddenly, out of nowhere getting thrown back in the past again with all your memories intact because reasons.

I get that their loopers, but even that has it's own rules. Wasn't the entire point of looping is that it takes places after your death? So what, did they kill themselves in that car ride or can they just loop on command, and I get that Satoko would often snap her fingers and loop but even that was implied that she was killing herself off screen.

Oh who am I kidding.. Higurashi? Consistent rules? Fuck all of that apparently, NEW GACHA AVAILABLE NOW!

Also just to end this retarded rant, Satoshi waking up.
Let me tell everyone a little secret, you don't just "wake up" from a MEDICALLY INDUCED COMA, that's kind of the whole point ya know, to fucking stay asleep until you can receive professional medical help.

You know what this reminds me of? That episode of Evangelion where Asuka gets mindraped by an angel, and Rei ends up javelin throwing the Lance of Longinus through it, and it ends up floating in space.
I'll give this episode a point for reminding me of that. 1/10 better than most of Sotsu.

I'm gonna say it: SotsuGou is the Danganronpa 3 of Higurashi. They both nuclear levels of retarded and were sequels nobody wanted.

I don't have anything else to say on this that I haven't said before, I'm just glad this whole shitshow is over for now. RIP Satoko's character.

Autism and my inner editor/critic. I have a dream of publishing my own works one day, and so I keep tabs of plot elements and character developments and archetypes I come across searching for new inspirations. Higurashi is special to me, got into it during college (film and video productions) and the mystery was very captivating, as well as the anime's cinematography. Legit, I love the framing devices used in the anime, and the light-and-shadow contrast is just so good that I go the Higurashi route on my art when I want that uneasiness. Even better in the manga adaptations, but that's the style I think of for psychological-horror.

Watching this go down the drain so agonizingly isn't fun without having a way to get out one's frustrations, and the way I do it with media is through analysis and cross-examination. My family hates taking me to the movies just because there's always something that breaks my suspension of disbelief, even if I actually like the movie, and they get mad at the slightest hint of criticism, even the positives.

Least with anime, my analyses and critiques remain online and I can get my thoughts more orderly that way especially since I can bounce off other fans. I just never thought I'd have to do it to Higurashi. But then again, after the travesty that was Digimon Tri... and that I was peak-sperging at the 16th Pokémon movie in 2013... and that I suffered through Pupa when it aired... also fuck Charlotte...

Maybe I'm just a masochist when it comes to this. I can make for a good witch in that regard.

Maybe the time will come when I can flex my editor side again, as much as I dread it. We'll see how it goes. Or maybe I'll just go another route and pick the brains of previous arcs for a more positive sperg experience.

Or maybe just get off my ass and write that Higurashi fic I've wanted to do for a long time...

Least with Endless Eight, KyoAni flexed on us by literally animating each episode from scratch instead of recycling footage, and there was some legit character-relevance as to why they were trapped in that endless summer vacation. Also didn't ignore canon nor kill it.

To be fair, you really should've expected this after Takano got away with everything in the original, including murdering Rika's parents, but also attempted genocide and trying to murder a kid. Tomitake successfully blamed everything on Hinamizawa Syndrome and Nomura Takano's mysterious manipulator, so she just had to wait in the clinic for a while until everything blew over, and Okonogi never faced any consequences, either. Ryukishi never cared about punishment for anyone, though Sotsu is still worse in that neither Rika nor Satoko seems to have even a shred of guilt towards anyone that isn't either of them.

Nobody should care about those people because look at all these happy versions in this one world where everyone is happy. That's the only thing that matters now.

Satoshi is the most ridiculous thing, yeah, and his recovery just raises more questions than it answers, not in the least why it seemingly only happened in the final world around '87, and it's never explained why he needed so long when HS had disappeared entirely by '84. I can understand that the permanent damage and associated trauma caused by his reaching the terminal state would require more time, but I don't think they'd be able to do anything about that while he was still unconscious. Also, I can't imagine them leaving him entirely unattended when waking him up. Someone would be keeping an eye on him. Though the biggest joke is showing Satoshi as recovering and never having him interact with either Satoko or Shion. I guess that would've more happiness than he was ever allowed to feel.

Really, the only good thing that came out of this joke of a show was that we got a bunch of big tiddy Satoko fanart. I guess that made it all worth it in the end.

I'm not trying to argue that she was a great person, her own circumstances were absolutely dreadful in their own way, but from Takano's perspective she (tried) to commit the whole "gonna genocide this village" just once and failed.

I can sort of see why the rest of the gang would either forgive her, maybe not completely "we're gonna be friends now" but just enough not to outright murder her either, especially once it's shown that she (genuinely) had the syndrome.

My point is they put so much emphasis on the whole "This is going to come back and bite you" with the whole people remembering past fragments, hell even Eua outright mentioned that the effect on the memory was getting stronger per loop.

Rena and Shion both had "strange" dialogue of them mentioning "not wanting to live in this world" or "next time" and in the end it amounted to nothing, no consequences, no memories, just nothing. It didn't mean anything in the end, and that's what disappointed me the most.

Something I forgot to mention about Satoshi that they fucked up.

In the original VN and some of the console ARC's where he's mentioned, they specially say that he's tied down to that bed because he was at a consistent L4/L5.
They even mention that one of the nurses taking care of him had to get facial reconstruction surgery because they woke Satoshi up and he brutalized her, and this isn't something they just mention once in passing, but something that brought up a few times whenever he got a mention from Irie.

So why is it that he can just casually get up, no strings attached? He should be according to cannon, tied to the bed in order to prevent self-harm and him potentially harming others.

But nah.. Let's just let him wake up, pretty much completely fine, not tied down and not like muscle atrophy from being in a coma for an entire year is a thing.


There's a lot of things that I can try and see past, even if it's flawed, the original itself isn't perfect even with the whole "power of friendship" trope but at least it had a sense of purpose to it's narrative, it had a direction and a message with it's narrative despite all the gore and chaos.

SOTSU just feels like Ryukishi shat all over that for the sake of his retarded loli lesbians, this entire problem could have been solved from day one if he didn't purposely write the characters to be more oblivious than ever.

What a fucking waste.

OG higurashi builds up a group of close school friends and showed a lot of ways shit could go or did go from different character perspectives a a cool way to reveal more info about the setting and get closer to the truth of what the actual fuck is going on. Pretty much every character is likable save for the legitimately irredeemable ones and you can see how shit works and why they do what they do it's fucking cool shit. This series takes a turn where it's infinitely less subtle than the original, suddenly 3 5ths of the friend group are easily disposable window dressing and the one that supposedly isn't is beat to death constantly in horrible ways but in the end it's like Dobson-esque "UWUU THEY"RE LESBIANNS NOW IT OK THEY LUUUBV EACH OTHERRR" from what I'm getting from the various descriptions and clips I've seen of it. I'm not gonna sit through this full thing unless I'm in the right mood to do so but it feels as gross and cheap as the fucking gundam ironblood orphans shit where like after the anime ended there was a touching moment where the protagonist kids 2 gfs were raising his son to like keep a memory of him but then like shortly after there was some unrelated like official real life event thing going "OH YEAH THEY"RE LESBIAN AND THIS EVENT IS A WEDDING FOR THE LESBIANS DID I MENTION THEY'RE LESBIANS AND HAVE LESBIAN SEX HOW WHOLESOME!" Like fuck right off with that shit you ruined the fucking perfect bittersweet ending to a fucking thing by inserting lesbian shit into it and making it a "THEY FUCKIN" thing rather than a "oh damn they really cared for him fuck" thing. At that point the child is now a third wheel contractual obligation to the "LESBIAN SEEEX" shit rather than an actual meaningful "power of love and friendship" kinda ending. As cliched as the "power of friendship and love" endings sound on paper if done right they're like really fucking sweet shit.
