Also bonus /a/non summing up the real lesson of SotsugyouView attachment 2585362
I had the exact same fucking thoughts about what the "lesson" was looking at this shit and it's a fucking horrible one. Is this fucking anon my god damn doppleganger? Am I going to die now?

I took a look earlier today and saw that Sotsu's rating has now dipped below 7/10.
Keeps dropping. Think it'll hit Kira levels soon.

In other news, boyfriend and I watched "Curse-Killing" last night (if just to further extend our time together), and he's just blown away by the series thus far, episode 13 got a "Fuuuuck!" out of him among all the "Damn!"s. He's still pretty adamant about the demonic possession angle, feels he was half-right with "Cotton Drifting", but he never expected what would transpire when it came to Mion nor with Keiichi in "Curse-Killing". Guess even a horror buff like him could be taken by surprise, but he definitely understands why I love the series so much. I already have the Blu-Ray, so he's taking the DVDs back home with him so he can watch them on his own time (I wish we could've watched "Eye-Opening" together at the very least).

One day, might watch Umineko together for the lulz, but I think I'll save it for the sound novel together.

Which adaptation are you watching? Just for reference.

The DEEN adaptation, of course. Been filling in some more details over time for him.
That's fair, at least it isn't Sotsugou, don't subject your mans to that torture.

I’m not sure how this scene was supposed to spark emotion. It just looks like playfighting instead of being edgy.

Tomato dropped some early sketches of the manga's equivalent of Satokowashi, and it's already looking better than the anime, since it including things like a very opinionated Shion.
Even the gacha has a better take on Sotsu in the witch events, since it actually touches on things like Rika's two-faced, secretive nature and how she was secretly happy with the deaths and disappearances of Satoko's family since it meant Satoko getting closer to her, instead of trying to boil it down entirely to studying.

It's almost impressive how Passione managed to follow in DEEN's footsteps by producing the worst version of the story, except they somehow managed to do while having full control over the script and without us even having the source material to compare it to.

Some bloke who's been (slowly) doing Higurashi retrospectives made a Gou joke/brought up a good point in which if St. Lucia was that terrible of a place that Shion escaped it in the dead of night, why did she or even Mion ('cause Mion knows it, too) not ever bring it up to Rika when she had talked about going to St. Lucia to warn them ahead of time? (Can't crop the clip, so it should be timecoded.)

Did neither Rika and Satoko tell anyone about their plans to study hard to get into St. Lucia, which would've gotten Shion to step in and warn them about it, at the very least?

Shion's not really a fair judge when it comes to St. Lucia, since she clearly went in holding a lot of resentment towards it already due to her family forcing her to attend that particular school. And given how much issues she has with her family, she obviously was never going to give the school a fair shake. The Saikoroshi Shion, who never swapped and doesn't have the same issues with her family, didn't seem to have any problems with St. Lucia. Even Shion, in Meakashi, acknowledges that when she stopped being rebellious and pretended to go along with the school's norms to prepare for her escape, her treatment immediately improved.
Since Rika and Satoko were willingly entering the school, the others wouldn't expect them to carry the grudge Shion did, and most of the worst parts about the school were just rumours floating around, as far as Shion knew, so stuff like the school jail (which was Passione's idea) would probably just be laughed at, if Shion tried to bring it up. And since she'd have Rika by her side, everyone probably figured that Satoko would be okay there.

Still, they definitely should've brought up Shion during Satokowashi. It's inconceivable that she wouldn't have something to say on the subject, and her complete absence during all of Satokowashi is just bizarre. It's not at all an issue that's difficult to resolve. If Satoko is determined to follow Rika to St. Lucia, there's not really anything Shion can do to stop her. Just have Rika promise to take care of Satoko or something and that should be enough to deal with the Shion situation.
Passione's decisions with the characters are just weird around the board, really. Mion just fucking off entirely in '84 is ridiculous, too. Yeah, I get that they want to set up that whole "friends can be apart for a while and still be friends" moral, and that Mion would have less time to be involved with the group in adjusting to her new school, but come on, would anyone believe that Mion would even fail to attend the Watanagashi festival, especially given that she's expected to be there as the Sonozaki heir, or that Mion wouldn't set up an event that pits her Okinomiya Game Club against the old club, so that she watch her new group end up utterly humiliated by their juniors as they're not prepared for the level of bullshit they pull? It would be completely out-of-character for Mion not to pull that kinda shit, especially since Okinomiya isn't even all that far from Hinamizawa.

Something is bothering me now. What was up with the ominous sounding nurse in Onisarashi?

Sotsu's score is a steady decrease from the looks of it. Also worth showing what the MAL scores of all Higurashi titles look like to get a good idea just how much this season fucked up with the MAL community.

Higurashi is a very favorable franchise as a whole despite Kira, and as more and more anime come out the more the scores change, but the best of the best continue to hold on to their status of "This is some good shit".

Also for comparison, Umineko's infamous anime still manages to hold on to that average score of about 7/10 (which a rewatch still held true for me, personally, but just barely 'cause it was still kinda fun).

The fact that Nekogoroshi has a lower average than Gou and Outbreak is criminal.
