And when I mentioned BlackSun as endgame I meant that was what the intention from the start, not what is actually going to happen. Miles is too much of a spineless idiot to follow through on it cause he's more concerned with upsetting a part of the fandom and possibly Barbara by not making their stupid out of character ship canon. It's clear with how much time was spent on Blake and Sun's relationship with many clear signs that they liked each other it's ridiculous to claim that they were supposed to be with anyone else.
I agree that Black Sun seemed to be the intention. But to be perfectly honest, he doesn't stand a chance. You are right in that story-wise it makes sense Sun be with Blake, but I get the feeling he will join Mako from Legend of Korra, and Finn from Adventure Time in the club of being cucked by the lesbian shippers.
If Rwby had aired 6 years ago Sun would have a chance, but now with the current woke environment he has all odds against him. That goes for all the main characters, to be honest. A quick glance into the fandom shows me how pairing the main characters are the most popular ships, and with Miles bending the knee to shippers I would be genuinely surprised if Neptune or Sun have any chance whatsoever.
Only Jaune has a chance, and that's only because he is, as I am told, a self-insert of Miles.
do you think that they really didn't do a good job at setting things up?
Good question, I've been pondering my answer for a while and I think I will say no.
I think at first they were more interested in making their villains seem your average cool anime antagonist with them being all "philosophical" and "mysterious". And you got how Salem made speeches about strength and Cinder talking about power.
I get that they wanted their "true goals" to be a mystery for us, and then shock us witha huge reveal, but they still didn't give us a reason to care.
As for RWBY, the heroes didn't even know the villains even existed until the very end of volume 3. And We didn't get their motivations explained until volume 5/volume 6. We are up to volume 7 and it's the first season we, and the heroes, know what the villains want and why that is bad... I would say that's a horrible setup.
On the risk of repeating myself, I think RWBY confused power with intimidation. And mystery with deepness.
The joker is one of the most intimidating villains in superhero movies and he is just a guy in a clown suit. Whereas Cinder can fly, control the weather, has magical fire powers, has energy shields, etc... and she is basically a joke at this point.
As for Salem, She technically has the power to just take over and win, but, for some reason, I'm just not that invested in her as a villain, especially after learning she is just a bitter woman making a tantrum instead of the philosophical Thanos like villain they wanted her to be at first.
