I just want them to explain Weiss's glyph semblance. I get that it sorta works like alkahestry in FMA where you can project certain dust effects at a distance using magic squiggles, but where do time dilation and summoning familiars factor into it? Every other person's semblance is sufficiently explained at this point except Weiss's and, for a show that loves to waste time with exposition, it weirds me out that they haven't addressed it yet

It's bad planning/worldbuilding leave it at that.

Is it supposed to look like low budget shit?

Yes, it's supposed to be cheeky.

I don't know the specifics, but it looks as if the most of the RWBY cast aren't "voice actors" by trade, rather just Rooster Teeth employees - meaning you'll see them in various productions across Rooster Teeth. Ruby is just one of thier podcasters, Weiss is just a receptionist (turned "Podcast Set Designer" before leaving RT) putting on a "whiny" voice, and Yang is the social media manager/Con Director, etc

When they do go outside, they rarely get big VA names - Blake wasn't a known VA (although she's getting more work now and is not longer a RT employee), Cinder is a Jessica Nigiri cameo, Adam was Hunter Garret (Mega64's 4th guy), or other staff members/writers. There are few outliers (Yuri Lowenthal, Vic, Tara Platt) but those are usually smaller parts as opposed to main characters.

It's a good idea (in concept) to have your employees be productive during what is essentially their down time (it takes a few days to record voice lines and several weeks to animate episodes) and that's where a lot of the promotinal stuff comes from (RWBY Chibi, RT video content with the VAs, etc) but sometimes on a slow day they'll go and do stuff like this.

Glyphs are magic but they refuse to actually call it magic. You can tell Glyphs take inspiration from Final Fantasy magic yet RWBY is desperate to avoid calling it magic. It would just be so much simpler if they just called Semblances and Dust magic and moved on. Miles and Kerry have taken this to hilarious extremes like when everyone couldn't believe someone could turn into a bird when Weiss can literally manipulate the flow of time and summon the dead. Frankly they made this so much complicated than it needed to be.

A few pages ago, I posted a video essay somebody did about what Monty’s vision was and aside from the feeling of being guilt tripped over the complaints of the writing that are common, my takeaway was that Monty was very matter of fact and to the point with the mechanics and characters. And he was very hands on to the point where you could say he was the only one trusted to captain the ship.

Regardless of any faults Monty had as a writer (lack of proper worldbuilding, not explaining much, plot was thin) I will definitely say he had a vision for what he wanted RWBY to be. He cared about the show. He thought out his fight scenes and you can see the love he put into the action. Miles and Kerry were always just following what Monty was doing, but they themselves have little to no vision. Miles has an idea of what he wanted to change RWBY to be but no vision which is why the show has been so scatterbrained and sloppy since Volume 3. It's just a vague collection of ideas Miles threw in without any concern for how a story works. Monty wanted to make something great, even if he didn't always succeed. Miles wants a paycheck.

Since we're talking about Monty's Vision I think it's relevant to bring up a video going over the retcons that came post-Monty.

Funny you bring up big name voices. They wanted Sarah Silverman as Neo (this is brought up in that book about the show released not that long ago), but made the character a mute when they couldn't. Bullet dodged if you ask me, considering Silverman's reputation. Only other non-VA actor they got was the guy who played Jason from the Friday the 13th remake as one of Adam's subordinates, and his audio quality was shiiiiiiiiiiit, like he was recorded with some poor quality mic or something.

Soarel. That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. Dude was a lunatic.

Oh yeah. Any RWBY video that was done by a critic, he was there to say how Ozpin was the real villain, and he shadow emperor of Remnant and how Cinder and Salem were taking down his regime and how the soundtrack was canon and explained how Cinder was this revolutionary. Hell, this video explains it better than I can.

Well I for one am sick and tired of them putting Dust in the water that turn the friggin Grimm gay!

But this is actually true - Ozpin's influence is so far-reaching that he's nearly omnipotent in terms of Remnant's politics. The man founded all of the huntsman academies, which are the de facto seats of executive power in each kingdom (and the de facto seat of legislative power in one). In the past, he was an emperor. Even in more recent, pre-academy times, he was still powerful enough to wander around the world collecting young women and amassing a cabal of zealots who could hide the Truth™ from the ignorant masses. And who even knows what kind of devious shit he got up to during the great war...

Meanwhile Salem is stuck in a desolate corner of the world trying to wrangle an assortment of dropouts and spergs so she can overthrow the current order.

The gods aren't that likable and Ozpin is a shifty bastard. It wouldn't take much to turn him into an antagonist and vindicate Salem. M&K just don't have the wherewithal to actually write something like that.

I keep saying that Salem’s backstory in V6 was kind of damage control to all the shady shit Ozpin had done to paint her as the real villain in all this. Even then, this show really hasn’t addressed how Ruby and her crew are just pawns in Ozpin and Salem’s game of cosmic chess.
