As people have pointed out as part of this discussion and on other occasions JK should not be tilting at the windmill that is every person lying about her on the internet. That does lose the PR war and credit to her she has been more restrained than many would be.

Joanne is, has been, and continues to be very restrained in her internet escapades. The most she does is light snarky ribbing and "no you aren't a woman and have no idea what it's like" posting.

The only people who sperg out about her tweets are mentally ill wackjobs who live on the internet, so of course her PR isn't a concern.

She contracted to do business with a party that then maliciously tried to harm her instead. There's nothing remotely windmill tilting about that. You should not tolerate people cheating you in business. You should make an example of them, pour encourager les autres.

Not doing so is inviting others to join in on stabbing you in the back.

And most of that's harmless. But when someone who has obtained a license to use your intellectual property for what should have been a mutually profitable undertaking instead deliberately harms you, this is not something to be tolerated.

Quite fair, I'm more pointing out that it is easy for such actions to be read in the least fair fashion possible. I believe she has specifically avoided taking the bait on multiple occasions but this one seems like it has stepped over the line further than was wise. I am in no way a legal or business expert but trying to paint her as committing harmful actions while in business with her seems to be putting the neck on the chopping block and calling the hooded fellow with an axe next to you a pussy.

I only read a little bit of it, but it really seemed like a "writer of books for children tries too hard to show she can write for adults" type of book. But her detective novels are solid and more than enough to show that she has range as a writer.

My personal favorite British children's author born in the 1800s is Arthur Ransome. Blyton is... well, I love Malory Towers, even though I know it's pretty bad in a lot of ways. (Angela Brazil is the best prewar school story writer even with her quirks, but she didn't write any series, so her appeal was less enduring. Dorita Fairlie Bruce is the best prewar series-writing school story author. Antonia Forest is the best postwar one and also great in general.) Other than that, I haven't read a Blyton I really liked, though I feel an instinctual need to defend her from criticism just because said criticism is way overdone and I hate the people pushing it.

If she's going to rake CGE over the coals, she's not going to announce it publicly. She's not an American. She'll contact her lawyers, have them explore the possibilities and results, decide what option she wants to pursue, then spring it on CGE. CGE will then be surprised and paralyzed by fear of saying anything publicly that will make it worse. They won't inform trannies what's going on. She can make CGE eat the production cost without being able to sell a single box. By the time trannies realize what is going on, CGE is already gutted.

Just look at how she handled UK politics. Did she loudly proclaim she was going to run for a seat in parliament? Did she shout off the rooftops she was working with a team of lawyers around the clock to see where she can hit trannies the hardest? No, she kept quiet, then when the Cass review came out she revealed she had a hand in it.

That's the best part about Rowling. While trannies are loud and obnoxious. They rarely get anything done. Their only weapon is screaming into the aether. For Rowling, the shitposting on twitter is a hobby. Her actual effort is working quietly and efficiently to hit as hard as possible.

It was even before 2020 and the essay she wrote. She wrote the essay because Twitter troons had been accusing her of being a TERF for a few years. She got caught liking some TERFy tweets around 2018. At that time she denied it as “whoops had a middle aged moment and liked something I didn’t mean to”. But even then they were still sending her death threats. Then she tweeted defending Maya Forstater the following year, and then in 2020 wrote the essay to explain that she didn’t want trans people to be harmed but has gender-critical beliefs. But of course that just made the crazies worse and OF COURSE their violent reaction to a pretty mild, “I may disagree with what you do but I’ll defend your right to do it” essay radicalized her into acting how she does now.

The celebratory tweet was about the UK Supreme Court ruling on the definition of woman, not the Cass report. She made a pretty large financial donation to For Women Scotland, the group which brought the case to the Supreme Court.

Public defenders doing their job and defending even the indefensible is a good thing, but this guy’s meme indicates that he thinks that rapists getting light sentences is a good thing in and of itself because it’s “rehabilitative justice”.

I don’t hold lawyers in especially high regard, but is this Gomez figure even a lawyer? The argument he’s describing as “basically, just this meme” doesn’t actually match the meme he posted (pretty much at all) and I’d expect any lawyer to be able to parse an argument better than that.
