I'm extremely glad all of these old video games are getting PC ports and what not, but I think its lame that language switching is fucked because of the way that N64 cartridges were region locked back in the day. Some cases like OoT's were simple were it was a simple byte that needs to be swapped while MM is extremely complex for some reason.
Do you think retroslop developers should try to emulate the jank and limitations from NES games when making their own NES-inspired titles?
I'm referring to multiple aspects, like the artefacts that would appear on the corner of games like Megaman and SMB3, glitching texture or even the collision issues and other visual glitches caused by too many entities being present on the screen at the same time.
Its kinda weird to say this but, when you play a game that is a diminished port of an arcade game, such as Ghost 'n Goblins or even Bubble Bobble (and sequels) the difference is almost like night and day. Considering that its not a good thing, I wouldn't be suprised to know people hates and actively avoid it, but I still think it would be kinda cool if a dev was autistic enough to try to imitate those as well.
This actually reminds me of a video I watched where the guy interviews somebody who's making a retroslop game. With the way the guy talks about N64 games, it really makes me wonder why the guy even bothered making it in the aesthetic of an N64 game if he can barely find reasons why it'd appeal to somebody.
 
I have a bit of an unpopular opinion:

I actually like the Virtual Boy
Ignoring the shit gimmick, the hardware is really interesting. It's basically an enhanced Game Boy, with the same 4 colour monochrome graphics, but with a much higher resolution and multiple layers for parallax. The issue with it being such a failure, is that it has almost no games. Of its tiny library, Virtual Wario is the only stand-out. Everything else is kind-of basic or feels like a early launch obligation, like the motive behind the game was being the first Tennis game (Mario tennis) or Shmup (Vertical force), and the actual quality of both is very middling. I do think Jack bros is worth playing too though, but it's nowhere as good a Virtual Wario, but other than that it has nothing that can't be found elsewhere. I'm guessing you like the idea/hardware of the system and not the library? Because It's kind of hard to defend a system with a quanity of good games worth playing that can be counted on one hand.

I actually do mostly enjoy the library for the most part, although the hardware is pretty interesting as well, with the soundchip being very similar to that of the PC Engine/TG16. Innsmouth no Yakata and Space Squash are two hidden gems for the system and I'm glad that the former is now available on Switch Online. Mario Clash and both Tetris games (3D Tetris and V-Tetris) are also pretty fun. Speaking of Switch Online, at least two unreleased games, Dragon Hopper and Zero Racers, are planned to be put on it later this year.
 
Galaga Arrangement (arcade) has more weapon upgrades (double fire, rapid fire, and spread shot), then Galaga Arrangement (console, different game) has those same weapons but lets you get double upgrades by sacrificing two ships, like rapid double shot or a 5-way shot. I recommend both games for sure, but I’d probably give a slight edge to the arcade game.

Literally the only thing wrong with the Virtual Boy is that the red color they were forced to go with in the end kind of hurts the eyes. The library is great and the games made actual use of 3D, unlike the 3DS which was mandated to have games be fully playable without the 3D on.
They weren't forced to go with red, they could have used green or amber, but red was the cheapest option.

Nintendo sucks.

The library is small because they killed it off, though. A number of games didn't even end up officially coming out for it and some were stranded in whichever region they first released.

Apparently Nintendo went with red and black since the system would've been really expensive if it were in full color. The red also gives the Virtual Boy a bit of a futuristic feeling as well imo.

Imagine if Namco released a game or two on the Virtual Boy…

3D Galaga on Virtual Boy would have been the absolute fucking tits. I imagine the field being slightly angled to give a sense of depth, kind of like Radar Scope.
The closest we have to that is Space Invaders Virtual Collection, which actually does have a 3D angled perspective as one of the modes. It's also extremely rare and was only released in Japan.

I already read the prequel stories, too.
I just watched some autistic YouTube video about it and I thought it looked cool. I was thinking I was gonna give it a shot this afternoon when I get off work. The lore looks cool and it seems absolutely brutal. I know that it has some supplemental material outside of the actual game but I haven't looked into it yet. Where might one find these prequel stories?

I only read Baroquin Syndrome and Baroque Interludium, since the last one is part of a currently unpreserved pack.

I also had some difficulty in playing the game, though the game seems rather easy once you nderstand things.

Thank you my dude. I'm actually gonna start it this afternoon. You're a real one. It caught my attention because at a first glance it gave me the impression that it was similar to King's Field. From what I saw in the video that doesn't seem far off. But the lore around it sold it to me. I believe that's what I'm gonna be on next.

On an unrelated note, I just finished Rule of Rose. If anyone needs a recommendation for some spooky, unnerving shit, that's the one. RoR.jpg

I think I've played every retro horror game ever made at this point. Or at the least, all of them that I've seen. Rule of Rose was always difficult for me to get into. But I finally decided to dedicate myself to at least finishing it. It's genuinely good. Once you get past the initial hour or so it really takes off. Once you get the dog I'd say. If you like the old, fixed camera, tank controls type of horror stuff you need to play it. I can say without any doubt, it has a story you defiantly haven't seen before (at least in a video game), which is rare with these type of games. It's a fucking trip. It ended up being awesome. It's weird as shit but it was exceptional.
