I wondered: what is the timeline on emulating the Super Disc System Cartridge/SNES-CD? So far, I read that there was even homebrew done, but, somehow, they learned tha the homebrew was based on wrong information.

Sarcasm or not, charging $8 for an NES game is ridiculous, and making them Switch 2/PS5 exclusive is even more ridiculous. Remember when they were $5 on the Wii Virtual Console in 2006, and people complained when they were still $5 on the Wii U in 2012?

It’s still not as bad as having to pay for a subscription to play NES, GameBoy and SNES games on Switch/2, and having to pay even more to access games for more old systems without the option of owning the games at all.

Nintendo accounts independent from the hardware were established on the 3DS and Wii U. There no technical reason VC purchases do not to carry over for games readily available for Switch via Nintendo online. Sony and Microsoft do it. Nintendo is just being greedy with this shit.

I got a emulation handheld for work only and I have every NES,SNES,SEGA,SEGA Genesis,GG,GB,GBC,GBA and N64 game on it. Paid less than 60 bucks, you do the math.

Before Microsoft actually invaded the console gaming market, Nintendo were sometimes called “The Microsoft of consoles” for the greedy, corrupt and sometimes illegal shit they pulled to fuck over consumers.

Sounds like we're landing on Switch 2 being the better option, thanks

It's a little annoying that Console Archives Ninja Gaiden 2 isn't available on Switch 1, but I respect that they refused to compromise on quality by offering a substandard version

Myrient is dying next month due to lack of money to keep it going. So basically ROM hunting will become exponentially harder.

I'm not going to pretend to know where else to find Wii U, Arcade, or retro pc games but the vast majority of games available on Myrient are also on Vimm's Lair https://vimm.net/, the primary advantage of Myrient was the fast downloads, which is also the biggest reason it's going under. It probably wouldn't take too much to archive only the stuff that isn't on Vimm, especially since most of the storage space on Myrient probably goes into PS2 and PS3 generation games.
The entire Nintendo 3DS NoIntro set is somewhere between difficult and impossible to find elsewhere.

Edit: Don't bother atm. Now that the word's out people are redlining Myrient's servers.

I've only found Myrient useful for 360 and PS3 game isos. Usually I don't bother pirating those platforms because I bought up nearly everything I want for extremely cheap, but when I do want something they're weirdly hard to find elsewhere.

Back in the day I used to pirate nearly every 360 game I wanted from torrents but those torrents are very not active anymore.
All of that is on Vimm.

If you really want things fast, there are torrents out there of just about every console library and the ROM sets for all the different MAME versions.

The FFA Links page on Vimm's links to a site called retrostic which has a section for MAME ROMs, though from what I've heard most people are using FinalBurn Neo to emulate arcade so your mileage may vary. https://www.retrostic.com/roms/mame

Yea but those are limited to pre-90's, 90's, and very little post 90's stuff

If you wanted to, for example, play a game that was on SEGA's NAOMI or ATOMISWAVE board, you'd have to use something like Flycast (which is a Dreamcast emulator that can emulate both arcade boards). FBNeo also can't do things like Konami's System 576... in that case, MAME is essential because it's the only thing that can run the games from that board (both analog and digital)

I don’t see the problem :smug:

Jokes aside, technically the latest version of MAME is the most comprehensive solution for running everything, but it’s also the worst in terms of features (save states, RetroAchievements, easily-remappable controls, etc). And it also takes the most power to run, even for simple games. I don’t emulate much arcade, but my approach is:

FinalBurn Neo (best features, great performance, and it runs 80-90% of the arcade games I care about) > MAME 2003-Plus (good features and great performance, fills most of the gaps) > MAME 2010 (okay features and performance) > current MAME (last resort)

… unless the system I’m running is insanely old/weak like a 2000s console, then I go FinalBurn Alpha (like Neo but worse) > MAME 2003 (like 2003-Plus but worse) > MAME 2000 (best performance but worst everything else)

This approach lets me maximize features and performance while also easily optimizing my arcade set on a per-system basis. But if you’re only playing on a powerful-ish modern PC, disk space is no object, and you don’t care about any extra features, then just get the current MAME set and pray you never have to update it.

There are so many japan only arcade fighters it's crazy. I'm always pleased by the sprite art on display. 90s really was the golden age of it.

I ended up preordering one of these Super Station things. I think I'm exactly the target audience for it. I've been curious about FPGA based retro gaming, but the options were either too limited to justify the cost - Analouge -, too much fucking around and cost to get started - Mister - or too ghetto - Sipeed Tang boards. The amount of I/O and ability to install all Mister cores makes it a very good value if you want to get into the FPGA scene IMO, and it comes in a nice little package. It also helps that I have all the PS1 gear including controllers, memory cards and some blue-retro dongles already.

Hopefully it's doesn't turn out to be a shoddily made product, but Taki has a pretty good reputation, and I don't think he'd sign off on shit.
did you ever get yours? sorry if it's somewhere in the thread I was like a year back and haven't waded my way back to now. I bought one too and mine's held up by the super dock, but I had pre-ordered another one separately to set up for my brother without the dock and it showed up at my house a week or two ago. I'm more excited now to get mine. I'm thinking about signing up for the open beta for the GUI. I've been waiting for something like that to jump into MiSter forever mainly to have it girlfriend, kid and retarded friend proof if it's hooked up in my living room.

I mainly was asking because I remembered someone in this thread also pre-ordered it and I was going to let you know if youre still waiting not to totally give up, it showed up, it works, so far it's pretty dope I can tell when I get the one for myself it'll be my daily driver for video games.

Im figuring out the kinks and getting all the setup growing pains done on this one, so when mine gets here I'm just going to be copying and pasting the SD card.

So is RetroUSB closing down shop? Permanently or for the near future? I have been using FPGA consoles for recording and shit and was finally gonna pick up their FPGA NES (i didn't before because I honestly dont particularly care for the library and couldn't justify the cost) but that doesn't seem to be an option. Is mister the only real option now? Guess I could just stick to emulation or look at modded Famicoms but damn
