I guess the harsh truth is that most veterans of the series have kind of grown up and moved on from it for the most part, leaving mostly newcomers who of course are going to lean towards the remake because it is the more accessable version and because little shits will always prefer "cool" new over "dumb" old.
It's pretty much 1984 of videogames where you're constantly living in the state of the present with no past or future. Originally it was the first zoomers that grew up with RE4 being their first game that annoyed me, but this new bunch is even more insufferable with their hot takes on what makes RE what it is.

Motherfucker. Now that you mentioned it, she does looks less feminine but rather more like a troon now.
It's because they purposely uggo'd the model. Her actual face model, Sasha Zotova cut her hair & cosplayed as Jill & looked better than the game version. They did the same thing to Claire too, where her face is a bit more square & puffed up compared to her face model Jordan McEwen. Thankfully mods saved the day again.

You know, the problem isnt the model itself in this case, its just how much of a leap it was from Zotova to this one. Zotova felt like a balance of strength, beauty and professionalism. She had a wide range of emotions. But the new one isnt very flexable and she legit feels like a downgrade in appearance, now Jill looks oddly small and underdevelop like she is a freaking teenager still. Zotova was convincing she could kick my ass but the new one legit looks like I can easily overpower her. She just wasnt a good choice.

And they cant exactly say this was an engine thing because after the backlash of Chris's face being changed AGAIN after it seemed we finally reached some level of consistency with 5 and 6, they decided to remodel his face in 8 to look more akin to how it used to be, reaching a healthy middle ground. So they clearly could remodel Jill to look more akin to the old one (but then again, one must wonder why bother changing it in the first place).

And Death Island trailer did confirm that they are sticking with this design and Jill oddly has started to lose me as a character and she was easily in my top 3 RE protagonists. Its just not her appearance that changed but her voice and behavior.

I've seen tons of Voth mods but I've never seen one done of Sienna in that game. It's the best of the three in compared to that Voth version but I've seen better. She had no business being such a fantastic live action version of Jill. Although her smoking and dropping F bombs was weird but whatever.

The default is so god fucking awful. Retards actually coomed over her.

I remember after it came out I came across this fanart interpretation for her look in a remake and thought it was infinitely better even with more skin covered up. It's basically the form fitting tube top with sleeves.

Unless I'm confused, you're talking about the leap from Julia Voth to Zotova. Unless you're talking about the mod video? I really confused.

Also, the teenager Jill issue is made worse with how the Nu-Jill in remake is. Capcom's writing & specially the dialogue with it's excessive swearing for dialogue (take it from someone who cusses like a pirate) since RE2R. She lost that calm, kind & caring attitude, which was to contrast with the hot-headed & quickly-angered Chris. Hell, even when she did found out that Carlos was working with Umbrella. she was still very kind, reasonable, & diplomatic.

While the Remake Jill is literally the opposite, she's pretty much a snarky cunt here compared to her OG compassionate self. Hell, that was one of the things people disliked about Jill in RE Apocalypse, her personality change. Hell, it's one of the things people disliked about Alice in general, it wasn't even personality change, she at the time was basically the same modern bitchy & sarcastic girl-boss™ Hollywood gives us nowadays, except really hot because Milla Jovovich.

The new Jill feels definitely feels physically immature, & it feels even worse when she speaks.

One more thing is that Julia Voth's version had very soft & sweet features which complemented her personality, while Sasha Zotova's version has somewhat sharp features. Zotova's face also reminds of Alice a bit due to those features, there's a mod for that too btw

That's cause Sienna Guillory actually played the game for the movie. She researched Jill, & might have even been the main character if not for Alice thing, which is more Capcom gatekeeping than Paul W.S. Anderson (Capcom has a huge role in Anderson flicks, than most know about). She somewhat tried it for when she played Blonde Jill too, she loved the role & character.

The dialogue could be actually on P.W.S.A. himself, but if Capcom itself does it now than they're not better than him. It actually feels like foreshadowing for what came later.

Love the design tho, it's got way more character than the remake one.

So if the models and animations are 90% there, what stopped Capcom from putting at least Wesker as a playable character in Mercenaries? Oh right Capcom is going to squander the positive reception of RE4R and are going to nickel and dime us for different shades of Weskers sunglasses. Is like a step foward and two steps back with these japs.
I think they just wanted to gate him and Ada behind the inevitable Separate Ways DLC (at least I hope it is inevitable) to try and add value. The appeal of playing as Ada might be lost on the average consumer if you can already play as her in Mercs, and Wesker would make a good bonus.
I knew that something was bothering me and I just couldnt put my finger on. OG RE 4 legit almost seems to motivate you to take a riskier style, usually "herding" enemeis into groups so a well delivered grenade will deal with them or a roundhouse that strikes multiple of them at once.
OG RE4 was all about grouping enemies together while camping in a safe spot so you could pop them all at once. The Remake encourages you to keep moving, you're always on the back foot. Your roundhouse will still knock multiple guys down but it's a big risk. Getting caught in the thick of a group is a bad idea because they grab you or rip you apart, but you can parry and shit to alleviate things.

I will say I like that you remain vulnerable somewhat in Remake all the way up until the end. OG RE 4 tends to get boring for me by the castle because once you get your arsenal and more ammo than you know what to do with you're practically a walking death machine that fears no plagas. The escalation of player power is less pronounced, and I enjoy the tense feeling combat brings in the new game.

Eh I don't know about that. I'm definitely an og fan who has been obsessed with the series since the days of the PS1 and I can safely say that I like the remakes almost as much as the originals despite the key differences. "Old good, new bad" is as much a whiny dog whistle for grognards who can't handle something being different as the opposite is for zoomies who never played the originals.

It all stems from insecurity. People who feel personally slighted by a digital toy not quite meeting their expectations.

Lmao they literally made Ashley less spoiled and gave her a little character arc about becoming more proactive but since she's not a girlboss and Leon is still, you know, rescuing her, apparently she has no personality. You know it's bad when even Kotaku's comments are calling it bad.
Its honestly impressive how well Capcom wrote it. At the start of the game she's incredibly cowardly and needs a mix of reassurance and discipline, but by the end she's confident in her ability to get through things. All it took was a handful of well-written lines to do it, too. I could see her showing up as an agent of some sort in the next RE iteration, because much like how the cop in Leon died that day in Raccoon City, the sorority girl in her probably died this day in Spain. Being kidnapped and then injected with a horrifying mind-control parasite has that effect on people.

What do you mean the 1984 of video games? The OG RE4 is one of the most ported games of all time. There's literally nothing stopping a newcomer from checking out the OG version. Hell, games in general are more accessible than ever due to the internet, so saying old games that don't have ports can't be played now without shelling out a fuckton of cash doesn't work either.

What you're saying is just complete nonsense.

The great thing about emulation is that you don’t even have to know what you’re doing to do it. Someone on YouTube can do it for you.

Who said they couldn’t play it? I’m speaking on how zoomer retards eat up sloppy modern remakes and despise the originals with tank controls because reasons. They immediately dismiss anything before their time and it’ll happen again when jewcom remakes them again.

Looking at jewtube comments is a great barometer on how retarded the community is. Many put it above the original when it just isn’t. It’s great but has way more problems than the original ever had.

The majority of gamers are on console. You really think they’ll emulate any old RE game? These are the tards that believe RE7 was good.

I can't think of single example of this ever happening.

Oh no, they have a differing opinion. The horror.

Either that, or buy it if it interests them enough, yes.
These are the tards that believe RE7 was good.
What the fuck was wrong with RE7?

Why are you so fucking angry? It's only a game.

Well, while it could be atmospheric it never really hit that feeling of dread that the RE series used to pull off, the mold monsters were pretty lack-luster, all the claims of it being a 'Return to Form' went right out the window when you re-attach your limb with bottled swamp juice medicine, Jack doing donuts in the garage while funny just isn't RE, psychic mold, and finally fighting a giant blob monster. Granted, some of these are subjective, but these are just a few of the complaints I've heard about RE7.

Resident Evil fan base is forever divided
Kinda always was. The divide kind of started with RE3 and then really split with RE4.

I bought 4 remake at release and haven't touched it in weeks and i don't know why. Currently at the start of Castle. I liked it so far, not as much as 2's remake, but it's good. Had a lot of problems of setting up the aiming controls and it still does not feel as right as original 4 did. I don't know why the game didn't hook me as much as RE2 remake did, both originals are some of my most played games of all time and original 4 being the last game i can remember being truly hyped for (even bought the Famitsu with the GC demo from Lik Sang back in the days) and the game completly delivering on that hype when it released.

I have to get back to it in the coming days.

Edit: It's the first RE i bought on PC and i have to say the mods are a god-send. Not having to hear Leon grunt everytime he aims and keeping full FOV while aiming is bliss, i also use another mod that makes the laser on the standard pistol more visible, the non-modded laser is a joke.

Same. I finished it on standard and then started a new run to just kill things and I... just don't give a shit? It's not boring, but it's really hard to explain that I just don't care? Maybe I'm just old now. I played the original to death so maybe it's so close to that I'm getting an uncanny valley feeling and it's making me feel like something's off.
