I don't think it's been covered recently in this thread but are there any plans for RLM to review Star Trek: Starfleet Academy? The first season is almost over and it's hard to believe a second one is in the works. It's one of the worst shows I've ever seen, not even just the worst Trek. Everyone is fat and/or gay, the writing is awful, the characterization is inconsistent and nonsensical. They can't even mix the sound right, the grinning fat black malfunctioning hologram's jibbering is barely comprehensible.

I try to see the positive in almost any show because lots of people worked on it and I've struggled to find one here. But I did find one. The Youtube thumbnails for reviews are hilarious.

That’s what I’ve always heard. It ties in with Rich not drinking as well. I don’t think they have ever said anything explicit, but I feel like the other guys have cracked jokes at the expense of Rich’s parents before.
He has said explicitly (can’t remember when, it may have actually been something Mike posted before they locked down all their shit) that he doesn’t drink because of alcoholism in his family. We can assume this means parents based on being raised by Nannoo, but there is also the drunk uncle who busted into his room late at night and said “teach me the internet”.

Pretty sure everybody predicted Evil Dead 2 as 1# but its well deserved and I love how they highlight Bruce Campbell's performances throughout all his appearances in the ranking which seems timely given the recent news. I want to watch The Quick and the Dead after seeing the cast list and the glowing recommendation from Rich not sure why such a crazy film flew under everyone's radar. I fully understand why Rich would not want to watch A Simple Plan again it is such a hard to watch movie regardless of how good it is.
It flew under the radar because the studio didn’t get it and had no clue how to promote it.

The marketing did not match the film’s style or tone, and audiences felt cheated by it.

See also most Touchstone dramas from the early to mid-90s like Swing Kids.

It's not just in the works, it finished shooting last month. There's rumors that Paramount is going to dump the second season by the end of the year to be done with it. Kurtzman's contract is up at the end of the year and there's no Star Trek shows in production right now. I was watching and reviewing Star Trek: Quality Learing Academy for the Star Trek thread here and it fucking broke me. I've watched every other Kurtzman Trek show, Star Wars Acolyte, I watch BotW for movie recommendations because shitty movies and TV shows are one of my favorite things to watch thanks to growing up watching MST3K but Starfleet Academy is the first of these shows I had to stop watching. I doubt Mike and Rich would last more than a couple of episodes. They aren't short episodes either, they're all over an hour long.

I kinda hope they keep going through all of deep space nine myself. I can understand the appeal of watching someone torture themselves going through a absolutely shit series.

Its just nice to hear people talk about things they enjoy now and again too.

I'm being 100% sincere when I say that this is probably Mr. T's finest work:

Mr. T - Treat Your Mother Right (352p_30fps_H264-96kbit_AAC).mp4
I sent this to my mom on Mother's Day at least once :D
Nasim, Nasim...oh Nasim.

"The Unforgiven"

Fuck. No way. No way he just said that.

I give up. Rich never fails to enrage. He's retarded. He was raised by his grandmother because his parents gave him up, and he's retarded.

God damn...

Rich's favorite movie is The Aliens (1987, James Cameron)

Babbling idiot. Total babbling idiot. I am genuinely angry at the moment, as you can probably tell.

Maybe Rich is just a big Metallica and/or Audrey Hepburn fan.

I guess since Mike didn't edit this one there wasn't a bigger focus made on it, but he does this all the fucking time.
Maybe he's just a big Burt Lancaster fan.

Why not both?

But did his uncle show him his "Warhammer figures"?

They praised Lower Decks and the last season of Picard. Their tastes in Nu Trek is all over the place.

The last season of Picard did its job in that it partly won back Trekkies desperate for nostalgia slop that didn't piss in their faces. Very low bar but there it is.

And then destroyed it all with Starfleet Academy.

I don't think RLM will review it because to dig into why it's bad requires talking about how it portrays woke college culture. I tried watching ten minutes of it and came to the conclusion it was 09, but with community college actors in it.

And then destroyed it all with Starfleet Academy.

I don't think there was much to destroy, really. Watching Trekkies salivate for Picard S3 was like watching starving dogs go nuts for a hunk of meat that was only slightly rancid instead of completely maggot-blown.

I think S3 Picard gave a lot of the older fans something approaching closure. Like they can mentally step back from all the nu star trek shit, because they've seen all their old comfort characters be portrayed half decently and not be raped.

I had problems with Rich's opinions in the previous two videos but his top 5 pretty solid. I haven't watched "A simple plan" and don't intend to after hearing them talk about, but the reasoning to put it this high sounds fair. "The quick and the dead" kicks ass and I'm happy he placed it this high. Siskel and Ebert were fags who would be game journos if they were born few decades later.

I'm being 100% sincere when I say that this is probably Mr. T's finest work:

Seanbaby's write-up from the 1990s ensured I would die remembering these segments. Nearly every paragraph had a realplayer embed of the clip being described, and they somehow always managed to be crazier than I imagined.

I haven't watched "A simple plan" and don't intend to after hearing them talk about

I'm still good from having watched it in '98, and recall being disappointed that Raimi didn't adapt the convenience store machete massacre from the novel. It was also one of the last times Elfman managed to impressed me with one of his scores (e.g., the lines on the prepared pianos composed to go out of tune); marking the end of the streak he had begun with Forbidden Zone. By Planet of the Apes, it seemed like being a closeted gay had made him a parody of himself.

I've fallen too behind on the trek thread. Can you link me to your first episode review?

I think I found the key to what irritates me about Rich; whenever he hits a subject with the specific combo of
  1. vague familiarity
  2. lack of curiosity
  3. willingness to talk at length about ___ anyway
-- he then launches into DK. It isn't confined to fedora-tipping.

The lack of curiosity is the most frustrating element, because it always comes across as "I already know everything I want to know about X, but that's not gonna stop me from smugging on it."

I'm still irritated Mike and Jay did that on their Hitb on Stuckmann's Shelby Oaks.

He put out a Hoppers review today and of course barely talked about the movie and is worse than AVGN on 'muh kids'. It's been awhile and he says he was on vacation but he doesn't look too well, some comments saying he's wasting away. Maybe AIDS since he's 'pansexual'. Or he went on a major bender from the lack of success. He also claims he's pitching new movies which I really hope this scam artist doesn't get.

I saw somewhere that SFA has an 'Omega 47' device.. I think we all know what they'll be a reference too.

Lower Decks was written by people who actually liked Star Trek and there's a few digs at Kurtzman throughout the show if you pay attention. Picard season 3 was the only good Trek to come out of this era.

They're less reviews and more a collection of screen shots. I couldn't bring myself to actually write anything because they're so bad.
