I was literally a child back then. And it's really an indictment of the American Education system.
i too went through the american education system and the only course which taught it was an elective greek mythology course. none of my other courses taught anything about it. though it is such a well known book and very influential i am surprised how few people hear about it outside if not being taught in school considering it is part of western diaspora.

yeah, hector being the hero isnt profound or even a 100 IQ move; literally anyone with a slight understanding of the Iliad knows this. it is along the lines of saying 'hey guys did you know Frankenstein is the doctor not the monster'
So for the autistic people: that's how a lot of memes work. Taking an obvious truth and repackaging it in ways that make normal people laugh.

Note this word. "Elective." Meaning, not mandatory. Which is now worse than you were in school because America does not even bother with Classical Education anymore.

My main issue with RLM is this:

Mike is not only a funny guy, he is smart and insightful.
When he creates scripted content like Plinkett, it's legit some of the best stuff on Youtube.
Problem is that he doesn't feel like doing the work, it's a lot easier to film himself and his friends watching some shitty VHS tapes and then rambling about them and then edit out the dead air
You can literally do all of that in 2-3 days vs what is probably at least a month of work on a Plinkett video.
Sure, the Plinkett stuff will get 5 times the views but making 5 unscripted videos still takes less time.

What I'm saying is, Mike is wasting his skills and talents on bullshit.
Sure, it's bullshit that is sometimes really funny but it's crap compared to his scripted stuff.

He's not hungry anymore. I don't know what RLM's financial situation is, but judging from their studio space, equipment, and the fact they have spare cash to blow on authentic props from Star Trek and other films (and occasionally destroy them), I'm guessing they're comfortable if not well off. Why bother going to all that effort when drunkenly defending the most garbage movie they watch one night still brings in the Patreon bux?

Make Mike Stoklasa poor again, and you'll see an improvement in quality.

They did one a year ago. The problem is that vanilla Best of the Worst has no legs like the gimmicks do; even one-degree gimmicks like Battle of the Genres.
In fairness, there is no functional difference between a regular BotW and a Wheel/Junka episode. Still, as good as they are, they are replaceable.

Are you sure? Because I am looking at the Patreon right now and the most recent thing was the Deadpool And Wolverine HITB.

I’m not sure. I got an email from Patreon with a summary of stuff and a bit on a wheel episode was on top. I could have got it wrong

LoL the Iliad being taught in schools. Maybe for us old fags.

Sorry for double posting, but here is an actual Patreon Update:

A very special friend from Canada stopped in for a visit! Him and jay sat down to talk about a filthy sicko movie (what else!) Can't these two weirdos talk about a lovely movie like The Notebook? Or something lovely and beautiful? Whys they always want to talk about sicko filth? pervert weirdo movies that make my stomach sickens. I think they have brain problems. Some kind of development issues with them brains. - Krebs Gorlon

I wish the guys did stuff like this

I found the best part of the Pickett reviews, and half in the bag has been explaining why things don’t work or why they do

Hector isn't a hero of the Illiad though. From the point of view of contemporaries he was presented as valiant warrior not to make audience like him or root for him but to show that greeks didn't waste 10 years in Troy fighting nigger faggots but a powerful nation. Showing the enemies you defeated as strong and noble is common device among ancient writers.
From the modern standpoint the closest character to have an arc in Illiad is Achilles.

I really wish they would do more commentary tracks, I like listening to them while doing stuff. It's been like 3 years now since the Dungeons & Dragons one and I am starting to feel like it may be the last...

They make stuff whenever they feel like, not when viewers want them. And for podcast content, there are so many other choices out there, far more than high quality edited videos.

They did a commentary track in 2022 for Demon Wind that's hidden in the game High on Life. You should be able to find links to a ripped version of it in this very thread or on the SuprBay forums in the Rifftrax section.
