He made his movie but was so hellbent on filming in Hollywood/California, he burned the budget on things that ultimately did nothing for a terrible film.
Even Hollywood doesn't film in Hollywood anymore and hasn't for decades. And really, a lot of guerilla film making is stealing shots anyways and it's easier to steal from some town than it is in LA.

Oh 100% agreed. I’m just talking about how much their big movie not working out had an impact on them.
I remember Jay talking about "making a feature film" at one point. I can't remember where, it could have been Pre Rec stream or even one of his old new years stream a thons and it was either during or right after Space Cops production, but he basically was like "It's really hard to explain how stressful and insane making a feature is, even something (or maybe it was especially something low budget) like Space Cop."

I can understand why they would go for the easier content, especially when it makes just as much/more money for them. But the longer it goes on, the less and less they care which means the quality goes down. I haven't found BotW that great in years now, and often the best part comes from the guests who isn't on much. (I think Tim had such a huge rise in the community because he was so new to the show so he wasn't burned out in the same way). And it *really* shows with all these new Star Wars/Star Trek re:views and half in the bags. It's why I just want them to stop, they don't even like it and it just leads to faggy arguments among Star Wars fans here and in other places.

I agree BotW has become incredibly uneven and predictably boring. But the rest of their stuff is fine, even if I disagree with them.

I miss Mr. Plinkett, though.

Hey everyone! Colin was recently in town and we shot a re:View for David Cronenberg's The Fly while he was in town! That's being edited now. We didn't shoot a Best of the Worst with him this time but we do have a crazy idea for a Best of the Worst that we're hopefully going to shoot sometime soon. We were also intrigued enough by the low looooooow Rotten Tomatoes score for Borderlands so we bit the bullet and actually went to see it! Half in the Bag for that will also be coming soon!

Ok all this talk of aging and laziness and sad decline aside, I'm genuinely excited for a Re:View of The Fly. If you haven't seen it, it is one of the greatest body horror films ever made. With Jay's love of the grotesque and Colin's knowledge of practical effects (The Fly is 1986, so practical was the order of the day), this should make for a fantastic discussion.

im actually interested in their review of borderlands. might be the first half in the bag i watch in a long while. im really hoping their crazy idea is something they are actually interested in doing, have fun with, and that BoTW is more high energy than their newer ones.

If you are remotely interested in that sort of movie I would heartily recommend watching it prior to seeing the re:view. I think it is one of the finest horror movies around that still holds up to this day.

I'm really excited to see the re:view for this one.

It's also one of the best examples of a good remake. The 50s version is a surprisingly good horror / sf flick, but it's completely pedestrian compared to what Cronenberg dreamed up. It's also one of the best acted horror movies I can think of; I honestly believe if it had been any other genre and hadn't been so viscerally disgusting that Jeff Goldblum would have been up for Best Actor.

I like when Mike forces Rich to talk about metal or Jerry Springer.

Also I’m a lame ass stalker because I like a challenge and I’m now 99% sure Jessi and Mike are actually married. FTM Tumblrinas on suicide watch.

ive never heard anyone once suggest they were married. what evidence do you base that claim on?

People suggested they eventually married (or continued to be in a committed relationship) all the time, back when there was greater interest in their personal lives. The community seemed kind of split as to whether they broke up or whether Jessi moved on from being on-camera. Nakles and Milwaukee - not a combination you find frequently. Claim based on recent obit for a family member and location/address for Jessi.

I thought it was common knowledge widely believed that he and Jessi were married, and they had a son named Ethan, but instead of being able to substantiate that, I found a bunch of silly shit.

I love so much about RLM that keeps me coming back to their videos. They have to be my #1 for watch time on YouTube. Some things I really appreciate about them:
  • Editing first and foremost, their editing is hilarious, and they know how to edit without going overboard.
  • The distance they keep from their fanbase. Genius, professional, and effective. This keeps them evergreen, they really seem to care about maintaining a professional image, which elevates them.
  • They all seem to get along behind the scenes and actually like one another. I mostly base this off of the resoration videos they have been doing. When they recreated the salt vampire mask from Star Trek TOS, they are all laughing and joking around in the workshop.
  • They do what they want, when they want. They manage to do this without seeming pretentious or petty.
  • They stay apolitical.
Favorite videos have to be their Re;Views and their Star Trek discussions, they got me into TNG, can't thank them enough for that. Anyone think they are secretly based behind the scenes? They do an excellent job of riding the line and discussing movie "politics" like with Captain Marvel and Prey without alienating anyone.

Have any of you seen one of their earlier films, Oranges: Revenge of the Eggplant ? I thought it was considered lost media, but someone uploaded it to YouTube recently:
It's kind of charming seeing Rich and Mike lend their voices to it, and what were they were able to do with some of the sets, effects, etc. are pretty interesting. I don't think it's as entertaining as something like Gorilla Interrupted but it might be worth checking out if you have 80 minutes to spare.

(Also, mods, if the local archive isn't cool to have on here for one reason or another let me know. Still new to compressing so I think the size should be adequate without quality being sacrificed but if it's just taking up space please reprimand me.)

what was the worst previously recorded take?
Idk if it was a specific take for me but it was that they just kept fellating indie pixel 2d games and hating anything else. IIRC there was a streak of like 4 glowing reviews in a row of these types of games which is fine but it was just made their bias really clear. It got annoying when they kept referring to this genre as unique and different and ground breaking as opposed to anything less indie. I remember them loving crypt of the necrodancer which was probably a fine game but I never felt like they gave anything else a fair shot. I think they were positive towards mgs5 but I don't think they fully understood it.

what was the worst previously recorded take?
Probably their Battletech review. Rich got mad that Inner Sphere mechs don't have Omni-mechs and questioned why giant robots were used at all when nukes and ships exist. Aside from standard verisimilitude that all media asks the audience to participate in, the giant robots are used because several succession wars made ships hideously expensive and damn near impossible to replace and nuking planets means no one can own anything covered in Alpha particles. IRL, we use tanks, planes, artillery, and infantry because nuking land does more damage than it's worth. Even as a simple tradesman, he should know that not all tools do the same things in the same way. You can see it in how he understands Star Wars and the Force in particular. Why do people bother with lightsabers? Because the Force requires a lot of concentration to use and a weirdo running at you with a laser sword is very good at disrupting that concentration. That's not getting into the inference that the Force is like mind muscles and thus any telekinetic attack can be countered by an opposing telekinetic attack. Thus, his lack of inference into media he doesn't like is always in bad faith.

I didn't think much of it at the time, but the more I got into Battletech lore and played Mechwarrior 5, the more annoyed I got at Rich. Mike really does do a service humiliating him as it keeps him from going full reddit atheist.
