Only tangentially related to RLM, but the LA Times today (paywall) did an expose on Bruce Willis as well as the dude who was coercing him into making all those movies, and it's becoming apparent that Bruce was a lot more unsound than the public was privy to. It honestly seems like he has full on dementia:

Willis, who had his lines fed to him via an earpiece because he could no longer remember them — was being coached through the scene by the voice on the other end. A stunt coordinator also tried to guide him. However, Willis didn't seem to understand, seven crew members who were present claimed to the outlet.

Emmett, who was directing for the first time, also tried to mimic for Willis what he needed to do for the scene. When that also failed, Emmett left the set in frustration, eyewitnesses claimed, and Willis stood there.

Jay has been really unwilling to walk back or acknowledge any kind of criticism regarding the sequels, to an extent where it often comes across like he takes it personally that people disagree with his opinion. You'd think he wrote the fucking Plinkett reviews, the way he acts.

It was like when he said that Ret "is a good fucking actress" or whatever with a sudden spike in vitriol during one of the reviews. He's clearly got some kind of chip on his shoulder regarding Star Wars fans, probably because they disagree with him more than most subgroups on the internet.

I mean given Jay's general tastes in films it doesn't surprise me in the least he enjoyed TLJ, it is probably the most arthouse of SW movies so far. The problem is always, that you should do arthouse for your spin-off films, not the center piece of a main, establishment trilogy with things and characters set up beforehand.

It's a perfect SW movie for someone that doesn't care about SW, in the middle of a saga which depends on the audience caring about SW.

I half wonder how he'd react if Rian Johnson did a similar ruining of Twin Peaks. Maybe he could at least understand where some fans were coming from.

I don't think he liked it, I thought he was fairly clear about how TFA was okay to decent, TLJ had some fresh moments but was otherwise terrible in execution, and then RoS was not even a film.

He's also been pretty clear that Star Wars has been dead for a while, the commentary track for RotJ is them just pointing out all the errors that would be magnified in the future decades.

If someone made a terrible Twin Peaks show, he'd probably laugh and move on, he has the old shows.

Yeah the clone wars fixes a bunch about the prequels but of course it does, if it didn't it would be as crap as the prequels. Hell the Ashoka arc is a more believable reason as to why he would turn his back on the Jedi council than what was in the actual prequels. With Ashoka being brash, irritating and emotional but powerful she was paired with him to show how that could go wrong with those traits and then she is taken from him when the council choses politics over their beliefs.

Then you have a bunch of reviewer channels that keeps reviewing star wars material because it keeps coming out and the franchise is still active. I just don't see the same levels of seethe. Though it would be nice if reviews about positive and fun shows paid the bills as well as negative reviews. Word of mouth is better at finding interesting shows nowadays than reviewers. RLM included.

I hope the next RLM is something that isn't Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel or the like.
