VHS is actually extremely cool because it's a weird magnetic ribbon brick we invented in the transition from penny farthing bicycles to storing data with fucking laser beams.
It's this really strange tech mankind pulled out of our asses which could have taken many dumb forms, and that's the dumb form it took, which form aside is also simultaneously part of a really elegant complex of analogue television technology which remains conceptually rad. It could only have existed for that tiny window of history and I'm glad I grew up with it. It's also great we don't have to use it anymore because it sucks

The old folks tape was an ok follow up. Last good tape in the episode.

The religious tape part sucked as usual. Clutch pearls at the boomer fundy garbage and repeat the usual other side boomer reactions. I hate when they land on religious tapes, the fun just stops.

The trampoline tape was a weak ending. I was hoping for something like David Chokadine’s garden hose, but eh.

There's kind of a case for that when dealing with discs sold at retail vs. CD-Rs, considering pressed discs tend to be much more durable because of how differently they're made, but the only difference between retail tapes and blanks is that the retail ones were recorded from master copies, onto never-before used tapes. So you can get the same physical quality onto a new tape by just recording from a DVD. You can do this by just hooking up anything that plays DVDs and has composite out to your VCR's composite in jacks, playing the DVD, and pressing record on your VCR. You could copy YouTube videos onto VHS if you wanted to. Shit, a new homemade copy might look even better now considering it doesn't have 20-40 years worth of demagnetization via entropy.

The only honestly good use VHS has anymore is, seriously, if you're really into finding weird random bullshit that's long since been forgotten. AKA exactly what they do on Best of the Worst. Other than that, uh... art projects? Decoration? The loose tape you can pull from one is shiny and pretty IRL.
