West Slavs: Actual Europeans (Poles, Czechs, Slovaks)
East Slavs: Oriental minds in European bodies (Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians)
South Slavs: Muslim minds in European bodies (Serbians, Croats, Bosnians, etc.)
I'd order them, based on a combination of ability to make a decent society and contributions to the broader world, in the order:
West Slavs > Cossacks > East Slavs > South Slavs
Poles and Czechs were actually a part of the Western world, invented things, contributed meaningfully to scientific theory, didn't become the first fucking Communist state, and generally were an admirable people capable of making a decent society. Even if you want criticize Polish-Lithuania for its serfdom, keep in mind that Russia only got more and more oppressive up until Tsar Alexander III stepped in in the mid-1800s.
The Russians are remarkable people at mathematics, physics, rocketry, literature, architecture, other good cultural products. But so are Orientals, and like Orientals, Russians and their regional kin seem to have a disregard for the dignity of the individual that runs deep in their blood and causes every version of their society since the Tatar Yoke to be a hellhole.
As for the South Slavs, I bet it probably comes down to whether they fell under Austrian or Ottoman sway more of the time, but in general they seemed to produce nothing of note (minus an occasional person like Tesla) and are largely just barbarians.
Cossacks are notable for being the only truly free people, based frontiersmen and runaways that created a republican White nomad horde on the steppe. In a just world Pugachev would have cut Catherine's head off and the Russian Revolution would have come at the same time as France and America, freeing the serfs.
Americans (no idea what you are, but I just assume people are American) forget about them all the time, but they're in the same family as French, Portuguese, Italians. I don't really know how their culture survived while every one else got flooded, but it's why they call themselves Romania, straight up continuation of Eastern Rome/Byzantium being "Rhomania."
Other isolates in the area include:
Albanians being their own weird thing
Greeks being their own weird things
Hungarians/Magyars, of course (distantly related to Finns, right?)
And Finns and Basques, if we step out of the Balkans.

Because Romania is literally a Romantic country and not a Slavic one. There is no honour in being a Slav.
Knowing absolutely nothing about Slavic history because it's not importantin Australian educationever, how is the Turkroach Republic of Bulgaristan considered Slavic but Romania is not?
This is why Australian classification is superior:
- All of Eastern Europe = Slavs
- All of non-English speaking Western Europe = Wogs
- English speaking Europe = Scum

I shit a brick when I learned that Galatians from the Bible were Celts living in the Middle East (WTF!?!?).There was a huge Celtic population in the Balkans back in the classical era. They ended up invading Greece and migrating all the way to central Anatolia.
