It's as true as it gets. Your average person in the 70s probably wouldn't have recognized the Village People as portraying gay stereotypes - but, suffice it to say, the band knew the truth.

This is why, in an era where it was much worse to be gay than it is now, they became so popular. The Navy actually used "In the Navy" for an ad campaign.
I thought they were going to, but then they dropped it when they realized how gay it looked.

I have found it, the worst blog in Tumblr, what do I win:

And another radfem who rejects her own biology while simultaneously being rabidly proud of her womb, surprise.
"GIRLS DON'T MATURE FASTER THAN BOYS! THEY'RE FORCED TO!!!!" Yeah tell that to all the girls who got their first crotch bleed at 10-11. Boys don't start shit until at least 13. Girls do mature faster.

Not sure how she's defining mature, but I do agree with this on some level. There are definitely 11/12/13 year old girls whose mothers' start forcing them into wearing lots of makeup/shaving their legs/acting 'ladylike' at that age. That's not biology.

The Windsors are a bunch of Germans (changed the name of the house from Saxe-Coburg Gotha in reaction to, you know, that nasty business with Germany a few years back) and Prince Philip is Greek, so my money's on inbreeding.

Yeah, this is definitely accurate. It was everywhere even in my hometown, which is very rural and conservative. I know this pair of sisters who were really tomboyish as kids and actually pretty fun to hang around with, but their mother got really weird and pressured them into becoming social media thot types in late middle school. They started wearing a bunch of makeup and aggressively flirting with guys and both ended up with kids before high school was over. Personally I think it's more of a "single mother/immature mother and weak father" problem than some sort of over-arching societal pressure on girls, though.

I suffered similar growing up a tomboy, and as an adult looking back on it I can chalk it up as a societal pressure thing to have one's kids meet a certain standard in behavior and appearance. There's a sense of embarrassment and "What will the neighbors think??" coming off the parents as they're trying to make their kids look and act a certain way so they can bound their chest and boast "Look! I parented good!"

So, yeah, unfortunately the tumblrite has a semblance of a point there. It is a bit of a societal pressure placed upon girls in particular to look and act a certain way once the hormones start pouring in. I didn't grow up with brothers or male cousins, so I have no frame of reference, but I would assume this pressure to 'grow up' comes a bit later for men because there's no obvious signs that their baby-faced little boy is becoming a man until like... 14 when they get their very first chin hair.

Biologically, women start to mature faster.
Socially, woman are pressured to mature faster because it shows faster.

Kinda sucks, but what can you do but go through the motions?

Maybe this resentment is also a factor in ultra-femme fujohimes trying to deny men access to them.
Why should men get to have access to them in the first place? Sometimes girls just aren't interested in guys, y'know? Also, I rarely see anyone on tumblr I would describe as 'ultra-femme' unless they're the mid twenties burlesque types who whine about how nobody takes their bisexuality seriously.

Problem is, isn't it usually other girls and women pressuring girls to be this way? I've seen guys try to police women's appearances and behaviors, but those were attempts at negging which failed hilariously.
