Was Chris ever a constant rapid-fire source of lols? It certainly seems that way from reading the CWCki or watching Christorian documentaries, but that's because decades of his exploits are condensed down to a few pages/minutes.While it’s true his Transformers videos are painfully bad I think the bigger problem is Chris is just a monumental bore in general these days.
The only two interesting things he’s got going for him now is one his funny reactions when he gets upset or throws a tantrum and nowadays that only seems to happen when he’s kicked out of a convention.
And two the identity and motivations of Flutter but that’s really only a Chris-adjacent thing.
Even during the Classic Era™ when Chris was at his most entertaining, the recaps of his antics make them seem a lot more frequent than they must have been. Weens see Chris in the blue body paint of that ridiculous homemade Sonic costume that Jackie asked him to wear and think that it was as simple as throwing a suggestion out there to get him to act [hilariously] on it -- but in reality, those best bits are the result of volumes of correspondence, building up his trust, and actually failing quite a bit at getting the cow to produce any milk.
It's kind of like SNL. Everybody says that the show was so much better X years ago when in reality it's always been kind of a slog. We watch it live today and maybe laugh at a single sketch per week and think it's taken a nosedive in quality when compared to "best of" compilations from years past -- or even reruns that are cut down from 90 minutes to 60. As such, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison because the dead weight sketch after the second musical performance that nobody likes is cut out of the reruns, and we only ever remember the bits that do well.
I don't know for sure. I didn't follow Chris in the Classic Era™, so I don't have personal experience about what it was like. It just seems as if there have always been cries of "Chris is boring now" throughout all of Christory.
