In my experience women either draw characters they like as an idealized woman (beautiful) or an idealized man (beautiful). A very tiny minority make their OCs ugly on purpose. Just like everyone else with a functioning brain, the majority of women want to see beauty in the world rather than ugliness.

Yea its one thing to draw an ugly character that's part of a story, probably preferable to have some uggos because if everyone was some goddess of beauty its a little weird imo at least in a grounded story. But a standalone oc? Theres no reason to draw that shit ugly other then virtue signaling.

It still shocks me just how much this circle of Socjus hates Sakimichan. She does admittedly have some issues with edging into sameface, but it really does feel that they hate her for showing that women like drawing beef and cheesecake just as much as men do.

I'm going to play Devil's advocate for a moment here and say that if you have an idea for an OC that works with an ugly character, it's perfectly fine.

Like, if you're going for a dwarfish, Torbjorn-style character from Overwatch. Or a big guy like the Heavy from Team Fortress 2 (look at his Meet the Team short, his face is tiny for his huge head) or John Silver from Treasure Planet. Or a villainess like Cruella or Yzma. Or a Helga-type big lady. Or a character with disfiguring scars. The possibilities are endless.

The problem isn't making ugly OCs. It's trying to pass off ugly-ass OCs as "beautiful", or "challenging traditional beauty standards". Insisting that your ugly-ass character is actually beautiful and if you disagree you're sexist/racist/any other -ist. Just admit your character is ugly. Embrace it. Be cool with the fact it's not there to be eyecandy. Explore other things about the character instead of always trying to draw them in "sexy" poses and being salty when everybody else is grossed out.

The problem isn't the ugly, it's this 1984-style UGLINESS IS BEAUTY mentality they try to push on everybody else. There is plenty of space out there for ugly characters, otherwise Steve Buscemi wouldn't have a fucking career. But no one is saying he's handsome, and no one is begging to see that ugly-ass guy in a banana hammock striking a teasy pose.

The Bikini Armor Battle Damage thread (a sister thread to this, so to speak) is a good deal more active. But that's because that blog is staffed by bona-fide lolcows with dumb takes so hot you need welding goggles to read them.

ETA: also, @Yaoi Huntress Earth posts updates regularly. I don't want to take anything away from them, they're definitely to thank for that thread remaining alive.

Straight male sexuality is treated like a medical condition or mental disorder in Clown World, so of course there's demonizing men expressing male fantasies as "degrading" or "sexist" - despite the reality that the sexes are different and sexuality is not inherently bad. And I see there's no "r/womendrawingmen" that I know of.

And before a SJW tries to explain that there's no "r/womendrawingmen" because "women are oppressed": straight "cis" men are considered an "oppressor group" by the wannabe communists that are SJWs, so they try to hold every guy accountable for the actions of other guys in a communist "collective punishment" "male privilege" way of thinking.

If the typical dangerhair land whale gets so upset about a drawing that they feel the need to attack the artists and the audience for enjoying that type of content then they'll go nuclear with what will be created with AI tools in the near future.

We are talking about the ability to ask an AI system to create a female character with a specific look and featuring behavior, personality, voice and speech patterns according to the end users' wishes and then said character can have a conversation with the user thanks to ChatBot technology. If the BBAD types had it bad over static drawings, they are not going to be able to cope with what's coming down the pipe.
 
Dangerhairs love to nitpick male artists getting some tiny little bit of female anatomy wrong, but if I had a nickle for every female artist who had glaring issues with male anatomy I'd be a wealthy pig.
