Seven children. They have seven.

I can see the fact that Anna would be left alone with no job and seven children going both ways with the jury: if they think there's a chance he's innocent, then they wouldn't want to separate a family for so long. But to anyone who thinks he did it: after that testimony about Josh forcibly raping his sisters has likely made at least a few jurors think that he could just as easily be doing the same to his daughters. In which case, it's best to lock him up.
Oops, I didn't mean to write two there.

I 100% agree and that's what I would hope. But a family financially reliant on the defendant is something that does often get considered, especially if people start to think there is room for reasonable doubt.

I'm guessing (hoping) there's not, and if any juror has doubts discussing the evidence clears it up and they come to the guilty verdict.

Edit: just saw the guilty verdict, can't wait for the family's reactions. Immediate public statement?

It's nice to see that the jury were able to see sense here. It's sickening the degree to which people can be given a free pass in the Bible Belt provided that they put on the right display of Christian piety. Not this time, thankfully.

He’s being put into custody since he’s a flight risk!

The fucking nerve of that stupid defense lawyer- he's guilty, you twit. No one goes home to await sentencing, and you know that. He doesn't get to go home because he hasn't raped anyone besides his wife and kids in a few months, such a good boy.

Edit: Anna's got to be drugged to the tits

you don't think Josh learned it from someone?
Do I think Josh learned it from Anna? No.

Gothard women don't really have many skills that translate to making a living, and are modern enough that they don't have the work ethic of plain people for the few they do possess. I've been pretty unimpressed by the women and how little work they do to maintain the home. It seems they just use the excuse of having babies to lie around and have their older kids shoulder adult jobs. This doesn't make the women bad, but they are undeniably products of their culture and pretty nonfunctional if they lose their husbands. Fortunately for Anna, Josh was leeching on Jim Bob before she was in the picture.
