I keep seeing a lot of posts in other forums saying that Joy was too young to remember what happened... but she was five years old. Five year olds can remember stuff.

I think Joy may have been told she imagined it, or was remembering it wrong. Now she gets proof that she was right all along, and everyone knew it the whole time.
I think Joy was gas lit, like every other girl in that family. Five year olds CAN remember things, this is true. But, how and what they remember is contextual and situational. Think of the girls who were abused by Larry Nassar with their mothers and other coaches in the room while it happened! They registered what was happening but not that it was molestation/inappropriate. I presume something similar happened during "bible time" or Bible stories. This scenario was a nightly event in the Duggar home, circa that time frame. Post molestation, we only know that the girls were brought into social services ONCE and questioned. Any claims that they had therapy are based on claims made by Jim Bob (who were know is a liar). He claimed Josh had therapy! Look how that turned out. I keep remembering that JOY was the one covering the little tv screen so that the boys "wouldn't be tempted". Joy was almost militaristic about it and she was only 8 or 9 years old. But, as Grandma Mary told the cameras, "She's protecting them and making sure they don't see any women dressed inappropriately"...cut to an older kid hay-baling about "desires that can't be righteously fulfilled". Anyone wanna' bet that Joy was led to believe that her abuse was her fault? Why else would she feel so desperate to shield her brothers? If I were her, I'd be pissed to find out that her dad cared more about his golden son and can remember someone's political record,...but "can't recall" her rape.

There is a piece of the puzzle that hasn't been mentioned that can explain Josh trying to talk in quasi-legalese. He briefly did correspondence classes from a scammy unaccredited law school in California.
Not only did Josh due the Fundy-Law-Schoool-of-the-Trailer; he also took a bunch of IT courses from the Titus2 family. He also worked for a Political Action Committee in Washington that had rallies about the porn industry, detailing how people accessed porn!

Roberts continued his questioning of Waller, asking him more about recalling the password Intell1988 after talking to both Homeland Security and then the defense team.

After hearing attorneys say the password during the trial today, Waller said it was "vaguely familiar."

JOSH DUGGAR RELATIVE ACCUSED OF NOT BEING TRUTHFUL AT TRIAL

Matthew Waller, who is a distant relative to Josh Duggar and a previous employee of Josh's car lot, which housed the computer that accessed the child sexual abuse materials via the dark web, took the stand at Duggar's trial on Thursday.

Matthew had previously stated that he did not know the password needed to access the dark web, but when defense attorneys asked if he recognized the phrase "Intell1988" he had a different answer.

According to our reporter in the courtroom, Matthew said the password: "Rings a bell."

During cross-examination, US Assistant Attorney Dustin Roberts began loudly questioning the witness, our reporter confirms.

"Was there something you're not telling me?" he asked angrily.

"You didn't tell me or law enforcement about Intell1988? I told you I thought you were hiding something from me."

    'STICKY NOTE'
Roberts then asked Waller again about the password, asking if he didn't think to tell them he know, and noted they had asked Waller for the password.
Waller testified that he didn't know it, but that when defense mentioned it, it sounded familiar.
Roberts asked about the password for the HP computer and Waller said that he didn't know what the password was because he used "a sticky note."
When asked again about knowing the Intell password but not the HP one, Waller reiterated that the Intell one had sounded familiar.

'DID WE TELL YOU TO TELL THE TRUTH?'
Travis Story, one of Josh's attorneys, then asked Matthew Waller about the password, according to the Sun reporter at the trial.
He asked if the government had asked Waller about the password - Intell1988 - and Waller said he could not recall.
"Did we tell you to tell the truth?" Story asked, which Waller replied to in the affirmative.

    PROSECUTION GRILLS MATTHEW WALLER
Then, Dustin Roberts addressed Matthew Waller, yelling and asking if there was something Waller was not telling Roberts, according to the Sun reporter.
He said Waller didn't tell Roberts or law enforcement about knowing about the Intell password.
When Roberts said he thought Williams was hiding something from him, the defense objected.
Matthew testified that he did not remember the password when asked by Homeland Security, adding that it was "vaguely familiar" after the password was said to him.

    MATTHEW WALLER TESTIFIES, CONTINUED
Matthew Waller added that he and Josh Duggar went to a conference until early May.
Then, Travis Story, a member of Josh's defense team, cross-examined him, according to the Sun reporter at the trial.
He asked about Josh's education and Matthew said Josh was homeschooled but he was not aware if Josh had his GED or college education.
    MATTHEW WALLER TESTIFIES
Matthew Waller continued, saying that only he and Josh Duggar worked at Wholesale Motors when he worked there.
He testified that he never gave anyone else key codes except for himself and Josh, according to a Sun reporter at the trial.
He added that there were cameras and he was unsure if Josh could see him on the cameras.
MATTHEW WALLER'S LAST PAYCHECK WAS IN APRIL
Matthew Waller testified in court on Thursday that he worked at Wholesale Motors until mid to late April 2019, according to a Sun reporter at the trial.

Joshy-poo has a total of THREE Linux partitions operating on his work computer - and whatever else his team tries to imply, it was only ever Josh who worked at the car lot continuously. He seems to have hired one part time employee at a time, none of whom worked with Josh for very long. And Josh was in between employees at the time the CSAM was downloaded.

Two of the partitions didn't have kiddie material on them; third one was the charm.

And I'd bet anything that David Waller's kid brother was convinced by the Duggar legal team to muddy the waters and plant "reasonable doubt" that it wasn't Josh, with his "hmmm that password used for the CSAM does sound vaguely familiar!". That's why the prosecution yelled at him, because the first they ever heard this line if bullshit was while they had him up on the stand.

I hope the go after him for perjury.

Not only that, but before he married anna, he had a web development company. It was called Premier Productions and here's the site archive and list of the things he could allegedly do. He did the family's website, some other fundy families websites, and he started one for himself and anna when they got married, ja20. Here's an archive of the original site. Hopefully the prosecution has done their research and knows about this. Josh isn't the dumb bumpkin the defense is making him out to be. He's dumb alright, but not too dumb to read a how to and then partition a hard drive.

Thanks to all the legal kiwis and tech kiwis y'all awesome

Defense is asking some interesting questions ,

Why does this erasure thing matter? Why couldn't they check the Mac or iPhone? Is this "remote access" thing reasonable doubt? What is transmission?

GELFAND ASKS ABOUT ERASURE
Gelfand for the defense then asked Marshall about programs that could erase such material.
Marshall said he found no programs on the computer that could erase it, according to a Sun reporter at the trial.
PROSECUTION QUESTIONS MARSHALL
The prosecution then got up to question Marshall again, and he said someone could have viewed child sexual abuse material on the Mac or iPhone but he would be unable to confirm.
MARSHALL KENNEDY SPEAKS OF MODEM
Next, Gelfand questioned Marshall Kennedy.
He testified that he did not review or examine data from a router that Gelfand showed because an IP and password were needed.
Gelfand asked about remote access and Kennedy said he did not look into it.

FRAGMENTED FILES DOWNLOADED
During the trial, the courtroom heard that torrent five files were downloaded but were fragmented, the Sun reporter at the trial said.
They were described but will not be named here.
Kennedy said they were not viewable at the time.
He said a torrent program was used in 2017 for downloading movies on the Mac.
A torrent program was found on the HP computer, on the Windows side.
Marshall said he did not look for "transmission" on any devices.
Kennedy also said the partition had a user account that was not a generated username.
He also said there was no Tor browser on the Mac laptop.
GOVERNMENT CALLS MARSHALL KENNEDY
The government next called Marshall Kennedy,
He works with Homeland Security on forensic computer evidence.
He testified that they were only able to do a partial extraction of a phone because they didn't have a passcode for it.

I thought the gov had ways to break the passcodes on iphones now?

Remote access shouldn't be reasonable doubt, as it's super fucking unlikely. Also yes, torrent files are downloaded in fragments.

The erasure thing is sort of a head scratcher, it's more admission that Josh didn't think he'd get caught. Drive wipers are free, and while not 100% effective (short of physical destruction of the drive it's pretty hard to ensure data is really gone) they're often used by people who are doing illegal activity with their computers... or just people who need to wipe drives for work reasons to destroy potentially sensitive material, like I have to do every year with computers we retire at the place I work for.

As I said before, apple takes personal privacy somewhat seriously and have been pressured multiple times by the feds to provide a back door in for evidence collection in terrorism and CSAM cases involving iPhones. They can sort of get into phones anyway with some tools, but other stuff isn't available.

Transmission matters because if there's evidence he downloaded this material and then spread it, charges could get upped for distribution. That's why the lawyer asked about transmission - sort of stupid, but it's probably to try and sow doubt with the case. Same thing with the router - if he doesn't know the IP address for it, it's hard to access it, same with a password. Josh isn't likely to tell them.

If you're wondering why the IP address is important, it could be any one of these numbers between (0-255).(0-255).(0-255).(0-255), though the last sequence is most likely ending in a 1, or a two. But that's still quite a few possible combinations, even before you get to the password.\

EDIT:

Alright, let me explain remote access here for a second. It's basically what it says on the tin. The thing is, unwilling and unauthorized remote access is not extremely common. Usually instead they'd have to download some kind of program to allow it (malware). There's plenty of legitimate reasons to do remote access too - in my case to help 50+ year old women who cannot into computer very good and have somehow switched off their email or need programs installed. But I highly doubt this computer was linked up for either. For that matter, if this was someone trying to frame Josh, why install THREE LINUX PARTITIONS. Just put it on the basic hard drive and tip the feds off.

It’s the sun, so potentially untrue. But if true, holy shit. I thought DD involved a toddler not a literal infant. Did he have even more depraved shit?

I've heard a different age, but almost definitely. That a baby was involved leaked during the bond hearing.

There's a lot of conflicting information, understandably, about DD. From what I've read, it's actually a series of videos involving Peter Scully and two girls who rape and torture 3 children of varying ages, the oldest I've seen was 18 months old but I've seen articles saying there were children "even younger".

Godspeed to those jurors. I would have a hard time finding the will to live after seeing those videos. I hope therapy is included afterwards.

Still, it means Josh was jerking it to literal, straight up babyfuck?!:cryblood:

I started saying it to make the Thunderdome crowd butthurt but it really is true, the reason fundies hate abortion so much is because it means less kids (and I guess in this case GODDAMN NEWBORN BABIES) for them to rape/jerk off to being raped.

There's a fleeting opportunity for Josh's wife and siblings to distance themselves from him in a way that saves face. Do you guys think anyone will take it? I can understand how Anna could be brainwashed into thinking that Josh diddling his sisters wasn't a big deal, but getting off to baby sex torture porn is on a different level.

They won't. It's too late for all of them still in the cult.

They definitely won't. Anna has been given a million opportunities to leave Josh by her siblings. They've offered to do everything including supporting her and all of the kids. They've been offering for years, ever since the first bits of info came out about Josh being unfaithful, before it was public knowledge. She's not just refused, she's gone on to get knocked up with multiple kids afterwards. She's never going to turn on him.

His family are likewise not going to fold. They're going to circle the wagons and at best release a vague 'we love and forgive Josh but our thoughts and prayers are with those who feel affected by his past actions. That was not the Josh we knew' kind of statement that neither outright condemns or supports Josh. He's always been the golden child so the chances of cutting him out are absolutely zero.

I have no confidence that the jury will get it right. If the defense attorney is smart he'll hammer home the point of reasonable doubt and how the jury can't judge based on emotion, like Casey Anthony's attorney did. If they don't understand the computer stuff it would be easy to think there was a slim chance it was someone else. These are people from Hicksville, Arkansas. I'm not expecting a guilty verdict and if by some miracle he gets one, I doubt he'll be punished to the full extent of the law. Smugger never seems to face many actual consequences.

The biggest thing that gives me hope of a possible guilty verdict is that this is federal court, which has a very high conviction rate because the feds do not fuck around. Still I do agree it's best not to assume it's a sure thing, sex pests and fundie sex pests in particular have a tendency to escape actual consequences for their actions (see also: Gothard or whatever his name was who the Duggars base all their fucked up parenting on).

The ones that aren't financially beholden to Jim Bob like Austin/Joy, Jeremy/Jinger, Derrick/Jill and Justin/Claire do seem to have pulled away, especially since they're the only ones attending the trial and harshly condemning Josh while the rest are all circling the wagons.
