News on Sword & Shield DLC coming tomorrow.

Man, even before quarantine there has been nothing but radio silence on the DLC and a good chunk of the stuff they showed was just concept art. Maybe they haven't announced anything yet because they're actually trying to make this a substantial game with a ton of quality content that justifies 90 dólares for a change?

Fuck its out early, guess thats fine tho

with this series I have learned its best to always set your expectations low, because small indie dev will always find a way to still get below them somehow even if you set them at plan 9 at outerspace levels

I just love how Gamefreak has all but forgotten about "Mega" Evolution.

I blame the anime for this, for not letting Ash ever use the concept, despite owning several Pokemon that flat-out deserved to experience such a thing. Charizard, Sceptile and Glalie come to mind.

Not to mention, the completely wrong designation of the term "Mega."

Have I ever said how much I hate this trailers for trailers crap that’s become commonplace recently? This is literally news that news is coming. Just tell us what it fucking is already. It’s literally the day before as well - I’d understand wanting to tide people over if it was months away, I don’t get the hold up when it’s the day before. Shit or get off the bog Game Freak.

I was under the impression that they dropped it simply cause they felt like they needed to have a fresh new gimmick each time. You know, since after megas you got Z moves and then the gigamaxing.

Megas still existed alongside Z-moves though (sort of, you don't actually get access to them until post-game but they still existed).

SWSH just outright deleted a whole bunch of content. Megas, Z-moves, mons, regular moves, fucking standardized modes since gen IV (that got subtly shoved behind Home), it's the single biggest drop of content in the series by far and I only named the biggest cuts. And yet not only were said games the most expensive, but TPC just reported it's been their second best year in history.

This franchise will never return to B/W levels of quality. They gave people shit, people bought the shit, so they have the free go ahead to sell more shit.

It's definitely not because of the Anime. The XY Anime actually explored Mega Evolution quite a bit, even if they never had Ash use it (I mean there was a whole 4 Episode miniseries all about it, and a lot of elements from it ended up playing a pretty big role in the main series as well). Even in the Sun & Moon Anime, they still acknowledged it's existence from time to time, unlike the games.

Also while Ash technically didn't ever use Mega Evolution, Bond Phenomenon was basically just a glorified version of it. I think they even said it was related to it in the Anime, although I might be wrong about that.

They really should have incorporated some Pokemon's Megas into their normal stats: (This is assuming that these Pokemon return at some point)
Give Beedrill better stats, make Ampharos a Dragon type, give Sableye Magic Bounce and Kangaskahn Parental Bond, etc.

As for Z-Moves, they're still using the power calculations for Max moves. Silvally's signature move Multi-Attack actually gets weaker when it uses it as a Max move because it's still based on Multi-Attack's weaker power in Gen 7.

I like Dynamaxing better than Z-Moves for Pokemon that didn't have Mega forms, but miss Megas and the G-Maxes aren't doing it for me. Dynamax giving you extra options for weather, stat, and terrain control makes for some fun strategies and it's made Weakness Policy a god-tier item.

my problem with D-max is the lack of a trade off, at least with megas and Z there was something you had to give as an away, but with Dmax having no downside IMO it makes it basically mandatory for any battle

That and it also meant that you could literally change whoever you wanted to Dynamax in the middle of the battle, meaning that it is ridiculously flexible and oftentimes unpredictable. Part of what Mega Evolution and Z-Moves in check was that you had to dedicate who was going to do it before the battle (Having multiple Pokemon hold Mega Stones or Z Crystals on the same team was always a terrible strategy).

That's just one of many problems with the mechanic. I honestly don't know how it got past testing without being severely nerfed from its current state.

You know, they never said they were only doing two DLCs. Could be they'll make more and ride out the train until the pokedex is filled up, so they can squeeze every penny out of Home subscribers.

Thats what I think they are doing, that or they will announce an update along with half assed sinnoh remakes

But the thing is, Mr. “I wanna be the worlds greatest Pokémon Master” should have been all over it, and if his big thing is to be “Friends” with his Pokémon, he should have known how great it would be for Charizard (who was once disobedient), Sceptile (Never was disobedient. But couldn’t attack after its second evolution) and Glalie (couldn’t attack properly as a Snorunt) to experience it.

Notably, you can potentially get an idea as to what mons will make it in the DLC. Home has been datamined and revealed what mons will get new moves based on the current TM/TR list (and some were updated in general, Regigigas will finally have Protect and Rest).

However, from what I remember the Sinnoh starters and some of its early route mons like the Bidoof and Kricketot lines are one of the few who didn't get moveset updates. Almost as if they'll be among the 200 or so they're keeping back for whatever sorry excuse of Sinnoh remakes they're slopping together.

From a SwSh discord, thought you'd all get a kick out of it.

Edit: The first minute has passed, no video yet. People be freakin'.

Double Edit: Was first posted on Japan's twitter, it's a 3 minute video. Looking through what I'm seeing, it looks like direct was mostly assumed.

Regardless, we have a release date: 17th of June.

Galarian Slowbro has it's shellder as a drill arm thingy. Or... a fucking mega buster? What?

The biggest new thing is that there's this huge fuckoff tree we haven't seen in earlier trailers. It's got hot pink/red leaves, is fuckin' ginormous and has a crystalline dome at the top.

There's cutscenes of a dinner scene and a battle between the Nu-Birds.

Triple Edit:

There'll apparently be more battle opportunities at the Pokemon League. Team battles seem to be a thing.

There's also a second huge tree, though that one is withered. Notably, the Nu-Birds are fighting around the pink tree.

There are apparently 5 Regi Ruins, at least. Which of the new two you get is dependent on game, I'm guessing.

Gigantastoise looks pretty damn cool.

Slowpokes apparently go at mach speed in Galar.

Music all sounds pretty damn good too.

Pics in the spoiler below. Apologies for quality, some shoot by pretty quick.

We saw the huge fuck off tree since the first trailer, dummy!

Would it be so wrong if they just made some of the more popular megas permanent evos for those without a 3rd form? Or maybe even finally introduce a 4th stage (having a permanent Mega Ampharos with a glorious wig would be a charm). Any pokemon that gets an unreasonable stat boost could just have past stats tweaked a bit like GF has already done with a few. Or at the very least make it an option to have them as alternate forms via held items (for the starters it would work best), and maybe make it so their stats are slightly lower than what they would've been through the proper mega evo method. The baby kangaskhan from the mega evo could easily be part of a new evolutionary line were you actually get to raise and evolve a baby kangaskhan.

Obviously not the best ideas but its better than just abandoning megas outright and I wouldn't mind the change since the mega mechanic felt really gimmicky anyway.

And sure they could bring back the Mega mechanic, but they obviously won't bring it back outside of maybe a gen 6 remake, since GF clearly doesn't want to go through the trouble of making even more models, much less mega forms for each new gen. SwShit clearly showed us that. They can barely stomach adding all pokemon.
