I think the move Secret Power is awesome but man, were those Secret Bases a useless feature.
Nuh huh. If you mixed records with your friends their secret bases got added to your world. When you found them they would have NPCs with their teams so you could fight your friends whenever you wanted. This was amazing in a time before you could battle over the internet and couldn't get within 3 feet of your friend.

You know what I miss? Getting event pocket monsters in '00s.

In the late '90s, if you wanted a Mew, you had to hope Nintendo would have an event at your local mall, bring your cartridge, and they'd put in this special "Mew dispenser" machine.* In Current Year, you can only get event pocketmon over this newfangled internet thing. But in the '00s, all you had to do was go to a place like a vidya store and simply download over wireless using this gift thingy built into the game. Then pick up in the game.

*(at least you got a printed "certificate of authenticity" too)
1: Assuming it was near you in any way, shape, or form. If you're not in a popular area, y'all were fucked.
2: They do still do card distributions fairly often.

What I miss more is actual events for special distributions. Like the islands in RSE or Shaymin in DPPt. Now you just download your event and go to the Pokemon Center in game.
The only downside (on Gamefreaks side at least) was that people would just cheat their ways into accessing the special event areas in game, but since SwSh has capabilities for DLC you'd think they'd try something.

Speaking of events, I completely forgot the grass monkey mythical existed until last night. It's just sad how fast I dropped the game considering I spent the last two gens shiny breeding like a madman. But now it's like, I don't care anymore...

Considering how long it's been since they announced the DLC and that nothing of note regarding the game has been happening since then, it's understandable to be dropping it until something happens.

It’s so stupid how we practically have two Rillabooms in the same generation.
DOLPHIN POKÉMON WHEN?!

On top of the Unova grass monkeys. I'm not usually one to pull the "GF's running out of ideas" card but it's like, really guys? There's still so much untapped potential out there but nah let's have a 6th Grass type primate.

I paid no mind to the leaks until two days ago, when I decided to check what did I miss but holy crap, the amount of autism is keeping me from it. Went to /vp/, outdated OP with sites which got taken down and archives that didn't work, some discord tranny posting a fake leak and people losing their minds, now I read this thread and see Dr Lava and others are just shit stirring and attention whoring, I am not sure if waddling through all of this is worth it. That said, a lot of these beta sprites are cool.

How about that bitchin photo printer for Pokemon Snap. I wanted some of those stickers of all the pokemon photos. My Blockbuster never had the machine for little poke fan me.

I never even had a Blockbuster near me period - the only two near me were both bought out by Hollywood Video before Snap came out. One of them is now home to GameStop and a Five Guys burger joint, and I think the other one is a mattress store now.

The Pokémon Snap printing booth sounds like a better idea than finishing the Unown PokéDex only to find out it's so you could print out a certificate or stamps through the GameBoy Printer, which good luck knowing a kid who owned one back then if you weren't lucky.

At least the music was remixed for the PokéWalker. When I had realized what it was, it made me feel guilty for thinking it was a stupid error message music as a kid.

This conversation reminds me of that time when the Lati promotion for Ruby and Sapphire happened here. From what I remember it was promoted in some magazine and instead of going to a physical location you could mail your cartridge to them and get it sent back with the eon ticket. I never did it cause I was afraid to lose my copy of sapphire.

As a sidenote, I went through some Stop skeletons from fighting vids I hadn't watched before and their N64 transfer pak episode made me really nostalgic for gen 2 and the stadium games. I wonder if my old copies of Gold and Crystal still work.

I think our transfer pak is broken or something, real shame 'cause I honestly enjoy playing my games on the TV, and in Stadium 2 you could speed it up. It was great.

Your old copies should still work, but the save files are highly likely to be baleeted at this point.

Houses in ORAS often don't have the interior matching the exterior. For example, May and Brendan's homes in Littleroot only have first floor windows and no obvious second floor from the outside, but there's the room on the second floor with windows...

wat

My Silver game save is gone because they thought using one battery to power both the save and the clock was a great idea.

Last time I checked, my Blue save is still there.

Yeah, my brother's Blue version still works (the other twin lost his Red version, swallowed by the same hole that ate his Emerald lel). Meanwhile, my Yellow cartridge somehow got fried years ago. Honestly was pissed because I found out it died the night I learned that you could totally perform the Mew Glitch in Yellow. Oh well, least we have the Virtual Console.

That depends on what kind of card you're talking about. Store-based wireless events were retired after Gen V due to the piss-poor handling of the distribution cards during Gen IV and V, you can actually find some DS distro carts on eBay for around $50-$200 USD.

I believe part of the reason why those kinds of events were dropped after Gen VI (along with what you mentioned about hacking) is due to kids not really knowing what to do with the item once hey get it, I do vaguely remember reading that's part of the reason why the DPPt's Azure Flute was never given out in any official capacity.

Also, IIRC Platinum actually had a safeguard against those kinds of hacks. If you accessed the area without the event item (and possibly one that was obtained via an actual event, I hear mixed things about Action Replay-generated event items in your inventory) the Event Pokemon wouldn't show up in that area.

I don't remember having to send in your cartridge for the Eon Ticket here in the States, but IIRC they did give out the Eon Ticket e-Reader card via Nintendo Power.

Using more gimmicks to make one gimmick more useful. Sounds just like the franchise.

You know maybe its just me not looking at social media that much i'm suprised about how little i hear about the dlc, i would of expected at least some speculation, especially every one inside their houses.

For one thing, they haven't exactly given us anything to talk about. Complete radio silence since the announcement. That and there's been an increasing number of people who liked/defended the game around launch giving a retrospective and going, "Huh, SWSH actually did kinda, suck..."

Interest probably will kick in again, but as it stands now you can just sense this general state of fatigue and apathy. The giant shitstorm wore out a lot of fans' enthusiasm on both sides of the argument.
