Oh speaking of spin-offs, I just have to say my absolute favorite is Pokémon Puzzle League, hands down. It was my first exposure to the Panel de Pon style of games, and it's addictive as fuck. I learned this the hard way as a teenager because I was playing it so much and then I realized I was getting those shakes and couldn't stop thinking about "Gotta beat my high score" and the like. I love the game, though, and while I can step away from it for long periods of time now with no issues, I can return to it and with a couple of exercise games I can sweep through it like no one's business. My brothers hate playing with me because I kick their asses even when they sneak in the CPU mode at level 10 lel.

My absolute favorite memory of Puzzle League is when I was home sick, and I finally beat Gary on Very Hard, and suddenly Ash got whisked away to the final boss level, which was Mewtwo. I managed to beat him by the skin of my teeth on the first try in 90 seconds, it was a freaky moment for me lol, but it was fantastic. My biggest gripe with it, though, is that although you can play as Mewtwo through a code (basically you spell out "BULBASAUR" while holding Z on the player select screen), you can only have Pikachu and his clone as the theme for both players, but I love it still. His theme's sick.

I wanna play Puzzle Challenge properly one day, though.

Pokemon Snap
Oh yeah I remember that. There's that secret area where there's only Mew, and even a crappy photo there is worth a lot of points.

I still use my old N64 now and then, so I could play that again. I think my favorite game on it is Mario 64. Also Pilotwings 64.

Also that sucks about that Majora's Mask thing.

Interesting. Some people in the thread are stating it's because Clefairy was considered to be one of the anime's mascots, or because Jigglypuff is the most well known from the anime due to her antics. Her getting into Smash 64 certainly supports that.

Wanna know something interesting? There's a board game (and it was hard) called "Pokémon Master Trainer" where you get to pick your starter Pokémon. There were six choices: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Meowth, and Clefairy.

Why would they go with those Pokémon as a starter selection? Meowth might be only because of the anime, but Team Rocket's Meowth can't evolve, ever. Eevee should've been an obvious choice because of Yellow even though your rival's the one who gets it instead of you. But Clefairy never made sense to me as a kid because that Pocket Monsters manga never made it state-side, and we didn't know about the suggestion to make Clefairy the mascot until years later. Jigglypuff being considered is possible because of her recurring status, but she did show up a little later into the series compared to the Clefairy, for instance.

But if this is real, this is super interesting.

Well, in that case, Jigglypuff wasn't added because of its popularity. It was added in as a joke along with Captain Falcon and kinda stuck around since then.
Captain Falcon was based on the character in the prototype “Dragon King: The Fighting Game,” and Jigglypuff was able to reuse Kirby’s animations.

I've been following the thread on /vp/, and as it turns out HelixChamber and their group have been lying about those back sprites and other shit that they claim is from a proto of Red/Green. Those beta sprites are from Red/Blue's source code. They can't even properly verify their shit and are crying in their discord about the legality of the leak and demonizing anons for actually putting in work combing over the source code. Shit's crazy.

Another interesting thing about Yellow: in the source code they were apparently planning on giving all the mons their anime cries in the game, not just Pikachu.

Not hard to see why they didn’t implement that, too much digitized speech to put on a Game Boy cartridge.
On a sidenote, I fucking hate the anime cries that we currently have, they all sound so irritating.

Heard those Eevee sounds from S&S the ones where the /vp said it sounds like pokeporn?

It sounds like it says it half way for me. Instead of saying "Eevee!" it says "Eevoy!". Am I the only that hears that?

It's because for all voiced Pokemon (Pikachu, Eevee, and Gigantamax Meowth), they use their Japanese voice actors for all regions. And to add on to what was mentioned in the post above mine, Eevee's Japanese name(イーブイ, or Ībui) is officially Romanized as Eievui in Japanese Trademarks and on various Pokemon merchandise.
