Oh speaking of spin-offs, I just have to say my absolute favorite is Pokémon Puzzle League, hands down. It was my first exposure to the Panel de Pon style of games, and it's addictive as fuck. I learned this the hard way as a teenager because I was playing it so much and then I realized I was getting those shakes and couldn't stop thinking about "Gotta beat my high score" and the like. I love the game, though, and while I can step away from it for long periods of time now with no issues, I can return to it and with a couple of exercise games I can sweep through it like no one's business. My brothers hate playing with me because I kick their asses even when they sneak in the CPU mode at level 10 lel.
My absolute favorite memory of Puzzle League is when I was home sick, and I finally beat Gary on Very Hard, and suddenly Ash got whisked away to the final boss level, which was Mewtwo. I managed to beat him by the skin of my teeth on the first try in 90 seconds, it was a freaky moment for me lol, but it was fantastic. My biggest gripe with it, though, is that although you can play as Mewtwo through a code (basically you spell out "BULBASAUR" while holding Z on the player select screen), you can only have Pikachu and his clone as the theme for both players, but I love it still. His theme's sick.
I wanna play Puzzle Challenge properly one day, though.
